Ubuntu Installation :: Uninstalled Ubuntu On Netbook Now Getting Error - No Such Partition

Jun 27, 2011

I'm getting ready to sell my Acer Apsire One netbook. I had Ubuntu Netbook Edition on it. But I needed to remove it to sell it.I went on to Disk Manager on the XP Partition. I then deleted the Ubuntu Partitions. I then ran the fixmbr.exe file I got from this site [URL]After that I went into Acer eRecovery Manager (Since my netbook doesn't have a cd drive it comes with this as a recovery partition) I selected restore to factory conditions and it rebooted itself like normal during a restore. When it started back up it couldn't find anything to boot to.I now get an (error: no such partition. grub rescue>) error when I try to boot the computer up.How can I get this back to booting to Windows XP Home.

Ubuntu Installation :: Can't Modify Partition On Netbook?

May 27, 2010

I'm trying to install Ubuntu Netbook Remix (which is amazing btw) on my brother's new netbook. The problem is that when I try to install it, there is no option to partition the hard drive (which is currently saturated with Windows XP), I couldn't do it via GParted either, the option to modify the size of the Windows Partition is just greyed out/not there. I don't expect him to be using Windows XP much but I want to keep it on there just in case, does anyone know why I can't edit the partition?

Ubuntu Installation :: Wubi 10.04 Netbook - Migration To Partition?

Sep 22, 2010

My wubi installation works perfectly but since i cannot restart my netbook i cannot get to use it. however, i am a bioinformatician and for that type of work, i need linux.

migrating my ubuntu wubi install to a different partition on my hdd, from within windows (without restart) in order for me to mount that partition using vmware player and booting up ubuntu from windows. (and to possibly be able to do that from ubuntu as well later.)

so i need to move this wubi install.

I am used to old school move files and edit boot ini and such if there is no automatic way of doing this from within windows.

Ubuntu :: OS Uninstalled - Loading Grub (Error 15) File Not Found

Jul 11, 2010

I just (basically) completely uninstalled my OS by accident. In synaptic package manager I selected to completely remove volume control (which had been going haywire for god knows what reason) with intent to immediately reinstall. I didn't put 2 and 2 together when it said it'd remove all related files including the kernel... hal... restricted drivers... everything got uninstalled. Network manager crashed...

I decided to try my luck with restarting (what was left) of the system. Now I'm looking at a boot screen of:
loading grub...
error 15: file not found.

Did I have to just make a boot disc and reinstall the os? or can I just "put the pieces back together" as it were and reinstall with a 'sudo aptitude update' once I get network up again?

Ubuntu Installation :: Install Ubuntu Netbook Alongside Windows On Different Partition

Nov 11, 2010

I want to install Ubuntu Netbook Edition alongside Windows 7. My netbook has a manufacture partitioned drive. I deleted the second partition and it is now free space. When I go to install Ubuntu, I am only given one drive: /dev/sda. What partition is this. I want to install this on the free space area that was originally the second partition. I originally tried to do this, before I deleted the partiton, however, I still had the same issue.

Ubuntu Installation :: Netbook / When Boot From Usb Stick, Getting Error Unknown Keyword In Configuration File?

Oct 25, 2010

I'm having problems installing Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook onto my Asus 900. I downloaded the .iso then used the "make startup disc" feature in my Mint 9 desktop machine to make a usb install disk. All appears well at that point. When I try to boot from the usb stick, I get an error message as follows:

"SYSLINUX 363 Debien-2008-07-15 ......
Unknown Keyword in Configuration File
boot: "

and the cursor just hangs there and doesn't respond to the keyboard.

I also tried it on another Asus and a Gateway Laptop with the same results.

My intention is to have this the sole OS on my little Asus 900.

Ubuntu Installation :: ASUS Netbook Heating Up When Using Netbook 10.04

Apr 30, 2010

I installed Ubuntu Netbook 10.04 and immediately noticed the keyboard of my eeepc 1000HE was abnormally warm. Since I dual boot XP I booted to XP and found the fan running faster to compensate for the previous heat. This did not happen on Ubuntu-the fan just was barely running. I had to place the side of the netbook in order to feel the fan running. I issued "sensors" in terminal and it showed 67 degrees C for the cpu temp. Is the latest Ubuntu such a resource hug that it heats up the CPU?

Ubuntu Installation :: Uninstalled Python - Whole System Disappeared

Jan 29, 2010

Every time I booted in 9.10, Python requested a password. I didn't plan to do any programming very soon (I'm new to Linux, although I know Unix) because I'm just learning the shell, etc, so I decided to uninstall Python through the Package Manager. I selected all of the installed Python modules and when I clicked "Apply" I was informed that there was one module (Python minimum something) that would seriously effect the whole system, so I unchecked that module and then ran the uninstall. When it completed, Firefox was gone, the two music players I had installed where gone, I couldn't log out and when I try to reboot I get a message "Ubuntu is running in low-graphics mode" and I go through several other menus, but I still can't get the system to boot.I assume a reinstall is in order, but should I "clean up" any of the remaining Linux modules/partition? And what's the best way to do that?

Ubuntu Installation :: Uninstalled, Cant Boot XP, Stuck At GRUB Rescue?

Feb 2, 2011

I was dual-booting XP and Ubuntu 10.10 for a while, but as I never used Ubuntu it was just taking up space, so I figured I'd get rid of it. I used a partitioning tool from inside XP to remove the Ubuntu partition, forgetting that I used GRUB2 every time I booted to select which OS to load. Now when I start my computer I get stuck at the "grub rescue>" screen. After searching for solutions to this problem all of them said to either use the Windows XP CD to fix the Master Boot Record or reinstall Ubuntu, but I dont have my XP CD and there isnt enough room on my hard drive anymore for a Ubuntu install. Is there anything else I can do to fix this?

Ubuntu Installation :: Xp And - Netbook Dual Boot - Error - Windows Boot Failed

Jul 8, 2010

I have a netbook running Windows XP as standard. There is also a recovery partition which came from the factory.

In the past I installed Ubuntu (I think 9.something) from USB key and all worked fine. However my XP became corrupted and I needed to do a repair on it. After this, Ubuntu became removed from the boot select menu.

Since then, Ubuntu has become updated to 10.04, which I now cannot install.

The Live CD tells me there is a "file IO error" and simply stops installation at around 70%.

I did manage to get into Ubuntu from a Live USB using Wubi. However when I chose to install Ubuntu to a Harddrive, the option to "install side by side" was missing.

After reading on the forums, I did a chkdsk /f on Windows and tried again. Now my liveUSB does not show a boot menu!

When I select to boot from USB stick, the screen goes blank with a flashing cursor. Ctrl+alt+dlt reboots.

I'm really lost here! It seems when I fix one problem, another problem arises!

Also when trying to instal Ubuntu within Windows, the process goes through to 100% and asks me to reboot. When I do so, the option for Ubuntu does show in the boot menu. However when I select it, I get an error "Windows boot failed: file wubildr.mbr and status: 0xc00000f - something is corrupt".

Ubuntu Installation :: Grub Error 13 From Chainload To New Partition

Jan 3, 2011

I have a machine with two disc but only one is involved in the boot. It is hd0 / sda. On this I have several partitions, first I have a partion (sda1) with grub-legacy and a menu.lst file that boot by chainloading my ubuntu 10.04 on partition sda4 (with ext4 and grub 2). This works without any problems. Today I was doing a larger upgrade of my mythtv install so I first copied sda4 to sda3, did all the neccessary changes in /etc/fstab and a grub-mkconfig (so that the grub.cfg on sda4 also included sda3 kernel). The chainload manage to nicely chainload to sda4 and when I select the newly copied kernel on sda3 it boots. Now inside the booted kernel/ubuntu on sda3 I again do the grub-mkconfig so I get a correct grub menu. I add a new chainload to menu.lst on sda1 so that I can go direct from that to my new partition.

when I chainload to the sda3 (hd0,2) partition I get grub-legacy error 13 invalid or unsupported executable format. No grub2 menu from sda3 shows up and the boot halts. The grub.cfg files on sda3 and sda4 are identical besides the uuid and hd0,3/4 references.

Ubuntu Installation :: Grub Error When There Is Only One Partition Of Vista On The Computer.

Jan 16, 2011

I am running vista 64x and i partitioned unbuntu 10.10 on my computer.

I deleted the ubuntu partitioned from my computer through Vista and made it all one drive. SO now all my computer has i the recovery partition which is 9.61GB and the main Vista partition that is 287.65GB. That is ALL.

I restarted my computer and it gives me the following error:

error:

I know you have answered millions of questions about that error, however the problem i have i cant find a solution for anywhere.

Now, i have a GParted disk to manage my paritions because i have had this problem before. However when i put it in the computer it only shows my 2 partitions. (The recovery one and the vista one) Both of them are "unmounted"

How do i disable grub from loading through something like GParted that is boot loaded off a disk at system startup? I only have vista on this computer, but i cant get to it because GRUB is in the way. (I do not know if its grub1 or grub 2, but its ubuntu 10.10)

I DO NOT have a recovery disk for my vista computer, ive lost it, however i have the Windows 7 Upgrade disk, but that will not load from the disk when i turn on the computer.

Things I already tried: Grub setup (grub, root (hd0,1), setup (hd0), quit) and every variation. *I tried removing the usb and setting the HDD back to first boot in the bios and then changing the menu.lst accordingly, still I get error 17.
