I have since tried the HOWTO: Install Azureus (newest, non-repo way) method of installing Vuze/Azureus, which I think is what I set up for 9.04, and also a synaptic complete removal and reinstall which didn't work.
I have an .azureus folder in my home dir which I would like to keep because it contains my settings and half downloaded torrents etc.
I would be happy to use the the synaptic packaged version of Vuze because it is much more up to date than it has been in the past.
First of all I must say that I am new to Debian, but not newbie on Linux. I am the Arch Linux user too, and I managed to solve identical problem on Arch. So, as I want to try Debian I am facing the same problem again. Problem is that my GPU is overheating. I am using Ati open source driver. I installed it following the procedure on Debian wiki. On Arch I solved it with proprietary driver fglrx. I tried the same solution here but it doesn't work. So I am stuck with open source drivers.
The difference between Arch and Debian (fglrx vs. Ati open source) is 10 C degrees. Debian Ati open source is much hotter. And ofc I am facing the low battery life too, because of this. My laptop is using much higher energy consumption with open source driver (almost double). How can I check my energy consumption on Debian? I read about some xorg options. I tried it, but no effect. As I am on Debian testing I am using kernel 2.6.32. Does this kernel supports xorg video energy consumption options?
Installed netbeans via synaptic but when I click 'NetBeans' it doesn't open... no error nothing
Tried running 'netbeans' in terminal and it's the same!
I downloaded the Stats program R through the Terminal, but don't know how to open it.

I'm wondering if any Open Sourced OS and services/applications installed in an valid business organization, is there anything I should be worrying about in terms of using open source os/applications for business?
Reason being is in case auditing comes, does our open source items get audited?
I have Ubuntu, Fedora, CentOS running in my internal network running multiple services/applications and being used for business (LAMP stack, SVN, BIND, etc...).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to install 10.04 32bit onto a new 1.5TB harddrive. I had previously installed 10.04 64bit on an old drive in the same nmachine. I partitioned and formatted the new drive using the old system. I have a couple of windows partitions and restored Win2K images to them, 4 formated Ext3 partions for whever flavour of Linux appeals to me a swap and two huge NTFS Data (home) and work areas. I installed Grub on the new drive, it also has its own partition for boot config files. The old drive has now gone.
Grub2 boots OK and gives me option for all the OS's even the one that are gone, thats OK I can fix that later with grub-update. Win2K boots fine and I see my NTFS partitions.
Now I boot from the Live i386 CD and chosse to install Ubuntu. The only thing that not allowed to default is where to install. Specify partition manually, Choose a spare 20GB Ext3 and the swap is already there too. I let it reformat to Ext3 and mount as /. (In Advanced I let the install boot loader default to ticked on /dev/sda )
The install goes OK until I hit the pop-up "Installation Failed". The installed encountered an unrecoverable error. A desktop session will be run etc etc..
I have tried this at least 10 times no. I downloaded and cut a new CD even though the old one worked fine on another box. Tried unticking the boot loader. Disable the floppy, removed the floppy.
I am relatively new to Ubuntu. Where do I look for the cause of the problem? I'll cut and paste the install log files in a moment.
I get this error whenever trying to update or install applications:
Quote:
E: sun-java6-plugin: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2
What can I do here?
Everytime I attempt to install anything, in any way, I'm given the following error message:
E: lib32nss-mdns: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2
E: wine1.2: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
I went into Synaptics Package Manager and told it to uninstall WINE in case that was what was causing the problems. It sort of half-uninstalled-it then gave me that exact same error message.I have two threads currently open on the forums - adjusting laptop brightness and flashing BIOS - and both problems hit a brick wall because of this same error message.
I had been using ubuntu for quite a while. But alas , I had to switch to WinXp when I started learning VS using its IDE.I installed Windows over Ubuntu wiping its grub.I hoped I will repair grub when I would need to.Now when I boot from Live CD to install grub it can't find the installation present. Moreover, when I try to make a fresh installation it can't find any Operating System in the HDD and asks to format WHOLE.. hard disk to make partition table and continue installation.
