View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm dual booting - windows7 and Ubuntu 11.04. I've found that I'm doing a lot less "dual'n" lately though. Compaq Presario Notebook. I've been installing new software and I've noticed that some of them are not showing up in the App list. I'm showing 92 when I've actually downloaded more. They aren't showing in the Installed Software either, but when I go into the center to make sure I did install it, it says installed. So, I'm guessing there is something simple I'm not familiar with yet to make these programs show up. I installed 7zip and couldn't find it either, however when I click on a zip file to unzip it, it does use this to unzip. I cannot find Ruby-full install or Docky. Plus several others.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI certainly do not want to install Elementary OS, and just want a similar interface. I already installed docky, but Unity gets in the way. Is there a way I can disable that? Also, can I hide the docky application icon on Docky? Or is there a better way to do this?

DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus). The weird thing: after looking in var/log/messages it appears that it is trying to be used by NetworkManager. And when I lookin NM, i can see iPhone as an ethernet device (cable unplugged).
I'm not sure what when wrong since I have a few DVDs and they all play well in my normal DVD player, I later attempt to mount it in my Ubuntu 8.10 I'm presented with the following message:
DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.
May I know what does this really mean?Is there something in my computer that require a fix?

I have since tried the HOWTO: Install Azureus (newest, non-repo way) method of installing Vuze/Azureus, which I think is what I set up for 9.04, and also a synaptic complete removal and reinstall which didn't work.
I have an .azureus folder in my home dir which I would like to keep because it contains my settings and half downloaded torrents etc.
I would be happy to use the the synaptic packaged version of Vuze because it is much more up to date than it has been in the past.
First of all I must say that I am new to Debian, but not newbie on Linux. I am the Arch Linux user too, and I managed to solve identical problem on Arch. So, as I want to try Debian I am facing the same problem again. Problem is that my GPU is overheating. I am using Ati open source driver. I installed it following the procedure on Debian wiki. On Arch I solved it with proprietary driver fglrx. I tried the same solution here but it doesn't work. So I am stuck with open source drivers.
The difference between Arch and Debian (fglrx vs. Ati open source) is 10 C degrees. Debian Ati open source is much hotter. And ofc I am facing the low battery life too, because of this. My laptop is using much higher energy consumption with open source driver (almost double). How can I check my energy consumption on Debian? I read about some xorg options. I tried it, but no effect. As I am on Debian testing I am using kernel 2.6.32. Does this kernel supports xorg video energy consumption options?
I am using qmailserver. I login through webmail but today I installed openwebmail instead of webmail. Its ok, but I cannot login my existing users. One combo I enjoy playing with is the Minimal CD with Openbox or some other small footprint window manager.I'd like to try Docky, but the need for compositing is a problem for me. I don't want to install Gnome, KDE, or XFCE, because I don't want all the stuff that comes with them. Can you tell me the packages I need to install to get Docky working? Are Compiz and Docky enough? Will Compiz serve as a standalone window manager and automatically start at logon?
