I want to run ISCSI target on CentOS. Both "scsi-target-utils" and "iscsi-target" can be used.
They seem to have the same function.
Is there any significant difference between them, on performance or stability?
was able to install iSCSI target via yum, configured a couple of target LUNs, in fact all the same steps that worked on Fedora 10 appeared identical. However, when I try to start the service the following happens.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi had a system running ubuntu karmic and grub2. Last day i installed fedora 12 on another partition and also installed the older version of grub that came along with it(because i was more used to it). The current status is:1. can boot into fedora, cannot boot into ubuntu.
2. can boot into fedora, chroot into the ubuntu partition
3. no data loss
However, i just can`t boot into ubuntu from the older version of grub which i have presently. Question is: How do i boot into karmic from the older version of grub? do take some time off and reply of you know the answer!

I did the install from the 64 bit edition Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala iso file and when I restart is gives me the no root file system is defined. Please correct this from the partitioning menu. Unfortunately I don't know if it means the window installation or the Ubuntu one. I also don't know exactly how to get to it if it isn't the windows one. I also want a triple boot with Windows XP Professional SP 3 32 bit.
My computer runs Karmic and has quit booting when it is plugged in. I was told it was the AMP needing updated. How do I do that? I do the updates from the update manager, does this mean I missed the AMP update or is it done differently than through the update manager.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using OpenSUSE 11.4, trying to install to an iSCSI partition. I'm using gPXE to boot to my iSCSI volume. This works fine, and pulls up grub with my boot options. I think boot the openSUSE 11.4 entry, which kicks off the boot process. I see the steps for running DHCP on the interface, but when it gets to iscsiadm, there's an error logging in to the iSCSI target portal along the lines of "15 - already exists. After that things start to fall apart - I/O errors, mainly, and the system completely fails to boot. What's going on and what this already exists message means?

I put the CD in and boot the machine. The initial Ubuntu screen comes up ("Ubuntu" with the line of dots below it) for a few seconds, and then it disappears and I see this text:

Can not mount /dev/loop0 (/cdrom/casper/filesystem.squashfs) on //filesystem.squashfs
At that point it hangs and will proceed no further. I've tried this with the latest Mythbuntu Live CD and the latest Ubuntu Desktop Edition Live CD. Both were x64 versions.
I have never done this before but stood up a new Debian (testing) x64 system. It only has 146GB available for RAID1 so I created a 500GB iSCSI LUN on my NAS device on the network and am really confused how I can attach my Debian to the iSCSI LUN I created. Right now the OS is installed all locally on the machine but I would like the iSCSI LUN to be the /home directory for mail storage. Is this possible or do I need to mount the LUN to a newly created folder / mount point that is locally attached?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI switched a working Lucid KVM guest from linux-server to linux-virtual and it could not mount root at boot time and issued a panic instead. Switching back (booted from CD and used "rescue a broken system") revived the VM.
My first guess is that some DM driver module needed for LVM is missing from the linux-virtual package.
server configuration: SCSI 36gig -> sdd; boot and root as it was first in the box;2 IDE hard drives -> sda/sdb for data; and1 SATA drive -> sdc for data.After upgrading to Lucid (not right away, but a bit later), it stopped booting:'Gave up waiting for root device.'ALERT! /dev/disk/by-uuid/........... does not exist. Dropping to a shell!(initramfs)Happily, pushing ^D let it resume booting, but it kept repeating. After some study, I found the Lucid release notes that said "if you upgrade to ext4, you have to manually update Grub". A quick check showed that sdd was now, indeed ext4 - nobody told me! And, why couldn't it update Grub by itself? But, I dutifully ran grub-install and life went back to normal.
Until last night, when I updated the kernel, etc. with apt-get and restarted, and grub dropped dead:More googling turned up this solution, which I used with an install CD:http://tinyurl.com/2dhswzzWhich worked, but it brought back the first problem, and running grub-install doesn't fix it. So, what do I do now?
Is it possible to install two NICs during an installation from CD? I tried and failed yesterday. The eth0 would have a static ip address 192.168.0.11 and would be used for Internet/network whereas eth1 would have a static ip address of 192.168.2.81 and would be used for connection to the ISCSI system (DROBOPRO). Oh yes, it's Ubuntu 10.04 Server version.
Install asks me to choose one of the two devices for configuration - I tried to be clever and set up one then the other but it didn't work, although the ISCSI subsystem was clearly working when I set up eth1 because the DROBO kicked into life as soon as I entered the IP address - communication was taking place. Thinking that my fudge had worked, I continued to complete the installation only to find that neither network interface worked on reboot.
As the topic says. I'm having problem after problem, everytime I figure out a way to take a step forward, my PC has pre-emptively taken a step back.
I'm unable to boot to X or (recovery mode).
I did try booting to a LiveUSB in order to run update-grub, but then it occured I have no idea how to do this from a LiveUSB that will affect the internal HDD installation?
So I'm currently trying to reboot from Live USB, but that just seems to have locked up the PC on the white ubuntu logo. I'm afraid to hard reset it (been doing too much of that lately). How long should a Live USB take to shutdown? (been about 10 minutes so far ). It's not a persistent LiveUSB as far as I know, and I basically just booted to the desktop and then start the reboot cycle as soon as I realised I didn't know what I wanted to do .
Have been running Karmic 910 for six months on a Dell Latitude D510 laptop with a Pentium M CPU, 2 GB of RAM and Intel 915 graphics, and I really like it, especially the Gnome desktop. However, a glitch occured after suspending, resuming, shutting down and trying to restart. Now after selecting Ubuntu in Grub the Ubuntu logo shows up onscreen, doesn't seem to pulsate, and eventually is replaced by an error message that the system gave up waiting for root device.
The LiveCD shows the Ubuntu partition as unrecognized, unknown or unused in Palimpsest Disk Utility, though Gparted shows it as normal ext4. The partition doesn't show up in Places. From the command prompt (via ctrl-alt-F1) I'm able to run fdisk, which shows the partitions but am unable to mount the Ubuntu sda4 partition - the error message is that the file type must be specified.
Starting recovery mode in Grub brings about 25 lines of startup messages, mostly dealing with usb devices, but a few render errors are there too. The last message before dropping to the ash shell is that a device could not be found. (ALERT! /dev/disk/by-uuid/5cee... does not exist.) The ash commands are completely new to me, so I haven't had any luck with recovery mode.
If the problem is related to Intel graphics, I would like to try some "quirks" (software fixes for hardware problems, including Intel graphics bugs) mentioned on the ubuntu.wiki site. I'd also like to recover the data on the desktop, but so far cannot get into the file system.
Does GRUB need to be reinstalled? If so, why?
Would reinstalling without formatting anything preserve the data?
Would upgrading to Lucid help prevent the problem from occurring again?

But the installer keeps selecting iSCSI automatically and won't let me change it. I try to do a "replace linux system" with my own partition scheme-which preserves the partitions already on this drive. I eventually have to exit the installer.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a problem booting anything from USB stick on my IBM Thinkpad T42. It used to run normally, I could even install Windows or Linux from it, but now it stopped working. This particular concern is about booting freshly installed Xubuntu version 9.04 off a Kingston 4GB flash stick. I've installed Xubuntu using usb-create program directly from a booted live cd. Installation went fine and all the options in BIOS are setup correctly (I think). In boot menu in BIOS the stick is recognized correctly and + appears in front of it. Stick is selected as primary boot device. BIOS usb support is also enabled.
Now when I power on the computer, it reads something from the stick and stops right after displaying:
SYSLINUX 3.63 Debian-2008=07=15 EBIOS ... etc...
Then nothing happens and the text stays on like this.
I followed the following two articles to create a bootable USB key that will run the Kaspersky Rescue Disk, but both methods fail, using two different USB keys:

Kaspersky only provides support for when trying to boot from a CD. Does someone know what I could try to get this to work as shown in the articles?

I've had some problems and questions when installing and configuring Debian, now everything seems very smooth, but still I can't find answer to one question. My machine is headless and I allways use SSH to it. I have several partitions on machine so if one of them fails on booting time with fsck, I need to press CTRL+D combination to continue. In that case I need to go to the machine with monitor and keyboard and press that combination. Is there any way to automatically continue for example after 30 seconds ? Then I could log in to the system and check log files what is wrong. How can I do that ?
