Ubuntu Installation :: How To Fix 2nd Monitor To Default

I recently had a wine program crash after I tried to set it within itself to windowed mode. Now ever since, when I boot, I load my sound app and it loads on the smaller 2nd monitor to the right. ANY wine pop-up or program loads on the 2nd monitor to the right. Even though I've checked that my primary, larger monitor on the left is #1 both in displays and through amdcccle. I've read through my xorg.conf but don't see why pop-ups windows and wine windows are loading to the smaller monitor.
I have a dual monitor setup in Ubuntu, with my main monitor on the right and the monitor I want to extend to on the left monitor, but I can't seem to get it to do this, it always has the 'desktop' on the left monitor and then extends onto what I want to be my main monitor. I have an ATI Radeon 4350 Graphics card.
I have a relative who made the mistake of changing the resolution of her display to something that her monitor does not support. The monitor no longer displays anything.If she connects another monitor to the computer, the monitor will work properly. If she boots off the live CD, her current monitor works properly. If she swaps out her graphics card with another with the current monitor, there is no display.Apparently, there is a remembered setting for the resolution of her particular monitor. Is there a way that it can be reset back to the default?
I am currently running openSUSE 11.3 x86-64 with two monitors, a 24" and a 20", both running off of an nVidia 9800 GTX+ using twinview. Does any one know of a way to have programs open by default on my 24" display or at least default to the display which the program was used previously. My computer seems to prefer to open programs on the 20" more so than the 24". In all other aspects the 24" is the primary monitor. I think that I am looking for some sort of setting within KDE.
I am using ATI HD3200 graphics card, and running Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid on a laptop. It have VGA port so I can attach external LCD monitor to the laptop. I am using fglrx driver.
My question is how should I configure the xorg.conf file so that when I attached external monitor, the GNOME menu bar (Applications, Places and System, etc) will be put on the external monitor instead of laptop LCD monitor.
I have checked varies web resource that saying you can drag and drop the GNOME menu bar to the new screen, it never worked. Someone also suggested to add new bar into the screen and GNOME will remember it, I can't even find the option to do that.
I need help with configure my xorg.conf to use 1 monitor as default and start all programs windows notes and popups on this monitor.I have 2 monitors with my main monitor to the right (1920x1200). I want to move programs or any other windows to my left (1280x1024) monitor.So the question is, how can i configure xorg.conf to start all programs on my right monitor.
Is there any way to specify which monitor the console is displayed on in Linux?
Details: I have a 3 monitor setup with 2 video cards. When I boot the computer, the BIOS displays on the PCI graphics card (which has a small monitor). When starting Linux, the console is displayed on the same monitor. Is there a way to have the console output on a different monitor? I'm using the vesafb framebuffer.
I don't see a way in my BIOS to change the default video card.
I have two screens, my regular monitor and my TV. When I open a program, sometimes it opens on my monitor and sometimes it opens on my TV. I don't usually have my TV on, so I want to have everything to default to open on my monitor.
I have a problem with my screen resolution in Linux. This happens with both openSUSE 11.4 and Fedora 15. The moment my PC restarts after I have installed the operating system it will boot up with a screen resolution higher than my monitor supports. My screen supports a maximum resolution of 1600 x 1200 @ 75Hz and Linux sets the default resolution way too high at boot, now all I get is a message from my screen asking me very nicely to change the signal timings, but I can't because I can't see anything to change it to a lower value (I don't want it so high anyways because then everything is too **** small). My monitor is a SONY GDM-5410 and the Graphics card is an AMD Radeon HD 4870 1GB. It nly works when I boot the system to FailSafe mode, but then I can't cahnge it permanently.
I swapped my monitors and reconfigured x using Nvidia-settings. My main monitor is set as primary display and absolute. My secondary monitor is set to left of..
My desktop Icons default to the left monitor not the primary.
I have already had Vista installed on another drive and from what i've read on the webs you get to dualboot if you install ubuntu after vista. when i did install it (i installed on a blank hdd with no partitions, choosing the "erase entire disk" option since for some reason default option was attempting to eat a part of my windows 1 gb drive instead of using disk i specially made for it) and the grub 2 loaded for the first time, there was NO option to run vista. only 2 linux (normal and recovery) and 2 memtests. I've ran linux and went to google this. I found that i should add something to some config files in /etc/grub.d/From reading the readme file i understood i could add my own files that are named like NUMBER_SOMENAME and insert code into them. I'm trying to set the resolution to 1680x1020. I edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf and try to manually enter the resolution but after a reboot it goes back to the default.
which is the file i need to edit to manually enter the resolution.

Following this link http://flurdy.com/docs/postfix/ For setting up It requires me to copy thge content of /usr/share/doc/shorewall-common/default-config/rules to /etc/shorewall cp /usr/share/doc/shorewall-common/default-config/rules /etc/shorewall/
But i observed that the folder default-config is missing. I have purge it apt-get and reinstalled but still it does it have that folder. What could cause this thing and how can i go about it?
Sorry my previous question wasn't that informative so adding more. I had windows partition and free partition for Linux installation. I got installed windows7 and it installed fine, When I tried installing Ubuntu, I remember selected default options. I gave me default option as it clearly said "1. If you have another operating system (e.g. Windows XP) and you want a dual boot system, select the first option: "Install them side by side, choosing between them at each startup." I thought it would keep Windows as it is and I hit proceeded for installation.

At the end I am disappointed that I cannot see Windows boot option (Dual boot) It just gives Ubuntu option. I kept 50 GB free space for Ubuntu. Is there any option to recover/switch to windows booting? Or I have lost Windows installation overwritten by Ubuntu?
I installed Karmic on an older PC I had laying around, and the only trouble I am having is with screen resolution. It uses an old ATI chipset (onboard) for video, and it doesn't seem to do EDID correctly, so I can't display anything higher than 800x600. I have tried creating an xorg.conf, but it's still not working. How can I tell Xorg to ignore the fact it can't detect a widescreen monitor and display something larger than 800x600? I noticed the log says the sync's are out of range, but I am not sure how to fix it.
Is there any way to put a dual monitor wallpaper on a single monitor configuration using desktop wall? Using only 1/3 or so per wall. Something that will have the effect like the scrolling wallpaper feature on Android/iPhone.
I am now using Ubuntu 9.10. The prob is I am not able to increase the resolution of display. It is showing only 800 x 600 display. While trying to increase the resolution it is showing "Unknown Monitor". So, how can I detect the monitor so I can increase the resolution of my system.
Currently I have two 1920x1080 screens running in Twinview on my Geforce 275 graphics card. Want I want to do is a quick simple way of disabling my secondary monitor when playing video games or using xbmc to watch movies, etc. I've tried a few applets but they require the xandr function which I think Nvidia doesn't support.
Is there a way to disable this quickly other than loading up nvidia-settings and disabling the monitor everytime. I don't really want to use two seperate x sessions and xinerama due to the fact you can't use compositing.
I'm trying to get a remote viewer / VNC on a PC without a monitor. The default one that comes with it seems it wont work without a monitor attached (including that every time I connect, it asks me to enter the keyring password). Is there a way to get VNC server installed that it will mirror my desktop?
I am trying to install Ubuntu 10.04 on my PC using NVIDIA GeForce 9150LE graphics and HP w2207h monitor. After using the Wubi installer and rebooting my computer, i select the ubuntu boot menu option and it says it is preparing to continue with the installation. after a countdown before it begins, my monitor goes to sleep. i used an eMachine monitor that i used in a previous installation of 9.10 that worked fine and reached the exact same problem. When booting from a live CD and selecting try without installing the screen comes up with a blinking underscore, and both monitors went to sleep. I believe its a problem with the graphics chip, but i dont know how to fix it.
I upgraded from 10.04LTS to 10.10 dell display moniter worked. Then upgraded to 11.04 and get no display. I can hold the Shift key down during boot and get Grub menu, using the Linux (recovery) and get a command prompt. If I run "sudo startx" , I get a fatal error " nvidia module" not found. How do I get the nvidia module installed from command prompt? All my problems started originally form installing NVIDIA GeForce 210 display adapter ( for dual screen & HDMI connection to my LCD flat screen TV). My motherboard has a built-in GeForce display adapter. I was going to re-install the whole Ubuntu 11.04 but it will not boot from my CDROM. I can boot "Puppy Linix" with my CDROM. Puppy Linux works great and on my monitor. I have no idea why Ubuntu 11.04 will not boot.
I have persistent video tearing my second monitor (Mitsubushi HDTV). I have tried everything that was suggested with some improvement. I have no issue with tearing if I add the following to my xorg.conf
Is it possible to disable composite for one monitor only and keep it for the other. Or at lease is it possible to have compiz for one monitor only and disable it for the other.
why both ubuntu and centos 5.4 will only give me 800x600 resolution on my monitor when opensolaris immediately gives me 1280x1024?The first time I tried ubuntu it gave me 1280x1024 and now will only make 800x600...This is a viewsonic VG930M Monitor..
I have a new installation of Karmic 9.10 up and running but for some reason my Nvida Quadro NVS 280 SD graphics card can not align my Sony SDM-HX73 monitor correctly. On the left I'm missing 10 or 15 pixels and on the right I have a thin black strip of unusable screen.
I was checking out the ubuntu 10.04 live cd before deciding to install it but after choosing to try it ou, my monitor just stays black. I cannot see anything, nothing happens. If I do a ctl-alt-delete it does a shutdown (I see the shutting down progress bar). I tried with the xubuntu 10.04 live cd and the same thing happens. I checked both CDs md5sum and they are good (matching what they are supposed to be).
Is there a change in how 10.04 handles ATI video cards ? My guess is something not working with my ATI Radeon 9600XT. Can this be fixed or do I have to forget every new releases since 10.04 ???
infact im kinda of a "pre-life" Ubuntu user I have burned a CD-R disk with the ISO image of Ubuntu with infrarecord however... When Insert the disk and boot a screen pops up and I press enter then the language thing comes up and I select english but here is where the problem is, Its seems that for only a few seconds I can control my keyboard then it stops working...So everytime I try to click "try Ubuntu without install" I cant and it just sits there
after it sits for maybe ten seconds it looks like it is rebooting but then it says "Monitor going to sleep." and if I try to turn it back on its just a black screen. Also if I like Ubuntu (which I probably will) Im going to run a DBAN and install it from scratch and I dont really want any problems :/
I have a tray-loading iMac G3 that, after installing Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) using the alternate installation cd, will go to a blank screen after booting. I know there is a way to fix it so that the horizontal and vertical refresh rates are correct to display what I need, but once it boots to a blank screen, and i go ctrl-alt-f1, it prompts me for a user name and password. I am 100% sure that I am typing in both correctly as i set them during the alternate install process, as I've done it twice so far, and caps wasn't on and I typed and retyped them to make sure they were correct. No matter what I try (even username: root, password: root, or username: admin, password: admin) it says login incorrect.
I saw that you can check the current user names and reset passwords by going into recovery mode, which I read you can get into by pressing shift or esc on boot, but on separate runs i tapped each key all the way from turn-on to the blank screen and no such option to go into recovery mode came up. Also, I try booting from the Live Installation CD, and when it boots to the blank screen, and i type ctrl-alt-f1, it gives me a neverending shower of Authentification failure's (as in they keep appearing down the screen, I can't type anything because it becomes interrupted by more Authentication errors). I'm at the end of my chain here. Any help would be appreciated. Either by getting me into recovery mode to fiddle with the passwords, getting it so that it takes the user name and password I set to it, or figuring out why the Live CD machine-guns me with Identification errors.
