I upgraded my Lucid Lynx with some PPAs and found some bugs. Now I removed the PPAs and want to downgrade my system according to default repositories. What is the best way to do that?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI upgraded U. 9.04 to 9.1 over the net a few days ago and got stung by the 'Driver' issue. Namely, my nvidia card is not reconciled and as a result, the monitor remains blank. I am assuming that the remainder of the upgrade went o.K. though I can only follow the boot sequence on the monitor during the bios start up.
I have a live disk of U. 9.04 and want to revert back to it, preserving my data. When I put in the disk and am hopefully asked if I want to "Upgrade", will it work in reverse, so to speak. I understand that there is a problem with compatible libraries etc. but will it ignore this and simply replace the new with the old?
I just upgraded my squeeze to wheezy only to have a bunch of problems. Now I want to downgrade back to squeeze. To upgrade I changed everything in my /etc/apt/sources.list from 'squeeze' to 'wheezy' and ran 'aptitude dist-upgrade'. Is it possible to go back without reinstalling?

so i was a little hasty in upgrading Tranmission to version 2.0 and after a while i noticed that the new version is really slow especially for public torrents my question is; is it possible to downgrade to version 1.93?
i followed these command to install the new version.

currently i am trying to downgrade my version of g++ compiler in my ubuntu 9.10using synaptic, deselecting current 4.4.1 version and adding desired 4.1.2 version will result in g++ not being recognized in terminal anymore :(also sudo apt-get g++will only get me the latest 4.4.1

But when I try to run vmware workstation the GUI doesn't show up. This problem is also descrbied on the same site (link) They say: "This seems to be a problem with glibmm-2.28, downgrade glibmm to 2.24.2.1, and it should work."
I have no idea how to do this. Most sites refer to gtkmm..how to uninstall a previous version and how to install the correct version?
Very n00b question. Am running lucid alpha 3 and while just checking it out i deleted the group icon which looks like a msg on the top right bar (the one that grouped the empathy and gwiber account)

I must say, it wasn't all reading this or that, but rather making changes to my paths that helped me to understand. Anyway, if anyone who does not understand environment variables is reading this, then I recommend reading this

OK- I have 1 last question for my fellow linux users. Lets say I opened up $HOME /.profile and did some editing, and later decided to undo all of my changes but I forgot exactly what changes I made so now I want to set the default in there. How would I accomplish this? How do I set the defaults for any ~/.bashrc or ~/.cshrc type of files that I change.
I accidentally screwed it up.

I uninstalled SLiM, leaving XDM the only login manager on my system, but how can I change it back to the default? When my system boots up, I get the default console login.

View 9 Replies View RelatedToday I installed Xubuntu desktop on my normal Ubuntu, to see what it's like, and to have the option to run a more minimal desktop when I want.
My only problem is that my login screen loads with the Xubuntu theme. This wouldn't be a problem except it makes it take significantly longer to boot into Ubuntu (Gnome).
How can I change it back so that Gnome is the default, and XFCE only gets loaded if I pick it at login?
what are my options with customizing Gnome at the login screen?

i accidentally removed my taskbar from the bottom of my Fedora 11 KDE desktop. after messing around with it i was able to get a working panel using the add panel feature, but i dont like it.
how do i restore my KDE desktop to the Leonidas default that it installs with?
I tried changing my Theme via MAC4LIN and it didnt work i get an error messege that shows:
cp: cannot stat `/etc/gdm/gdm.conf': No such file or directory
sed: can't read /etc/gdm/gdm.conf: No such file or directory
sed: can't read /etc/gdm/gdm.conf: No such file or directory
Previous to this i had tried installing KDM but it didnt appear to do anything (as in change any of the display management settings) The guide that i was reading to install MAC4LIN just uses GDM so i decided not to pursue KDM anymore. I Get the following read out:

The goal is to set all my GDM settings back to normal so i can have that gdm.conf file. Anyone know a way to set the GDM back and repair any damage ive done?
