View 5 RepliesEverything went fine this morning on the Install. Then the box said there were 121 updates. I click YES to update. After an hr updates had finished, and reboot was necessary. Only a black screen came up. I have 2 lights on my keyboard blinking, no hard drive activity light. Waited several minutes, nothing. So I did a reboot back into my WinXP. Any suggestions?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am still having trouble installing Debian 6.0.1a (Squeeze) from either CD #1 (KDE version) or netinst version. I tried for a few months to install Squeeze with KDE desktop; now I am trying to build a server, which seems easier (no X.org and KDE problems to worry about.)
Part of the problem common to all my failed attempts (about a dozen!) seems to be that the installer tries to get packages or updates/upgrades from repos but for some reason fails.
I have a commercial all-in-one dslmodem/router/firewall which has very, very limited monitoring capabalities, just enough to show that the PC in question contacted the expected repos (I tried several in different regions) and also shows that no DNS requests failed during that time frame. I did try decreasing the security of the commercial firewall, but that seems to make no difference. I did try to save the install logs, but they didn't fit on a floppy. Any idea what could be going wrong?
I searched but couldn't find this specific error. I'm using a Toshiba with Windows7 and a new 2 gb USB.

I have a laptop running 8.04LTS very well and have been keeping it up to date. I'd like to have the ability to re-install 8.04 at a later time if I had to reformat the laptop. I have the latest 8.04 CD image (8.04.2 I think) but of course there have been many updates since then. Is there a way for me to capture all these updates so that I can reapply them at a later time after a fresh install of 8.04?

Anyone know of an app that can auto sort my download folder. The problem is I use torrents and do not want applications stuck with movies, stuck with music. Is there an application that looks at the file extension and moves files accordingly? I know windows has Digital janitor but I do not believe it is supported in linux.

View 2 Replies View RelatedDownloaded Fedora.iso the other day. Burned a cd so I could hopefully load either the cd or iso. into a virtual machine. Neither one works. As a virtual machine have no BIOS issue, so that's not it. I did burn and not just copy files, so that's not it either. Anyone have any ideas?

For some reason Update Manager is not installing updates as of yesterday.I have it set to check daily and notify if updates are available. It has been working without issues for well over a year now.
Update Manager tells me updates are available and presents the list of security, recommended, and other updates. All are selected to update, but when I select Install Updates in Update Manager it returns with a Reading Package Information window overlaid on the main Update Manager window - building dependency tree then reading state information and dumps me back to the main Update Manager window without performing any update actions.
I recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 on an old computerd lying around and have been pleasantly surprised by it.I had a small problem with firefox not connecting to the internet but I managed to fix this by disabling ipv6 in about:config. The problem I now have is that update manager fails to download updates and gives a message saying failed to fetch several files.I'm connected to the internet via a wired router

warning you are about to install software that can not be authenticated....
This message worries me so I have not done any updates for a loooooong time.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've noticed this happening on some servers that I manage. I'll be downloading updates around 300 kb/s - 500 kb/s and then out of nowhere it will drop to about 3 kb/s. It will stay here forever, if I let it. I then have to cancel (Ctrl-C) the updates and restart them. This happens over and over and over until I finally get the full download. Why does this happen?
