View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm running CentOS 5.4 and noticed that for the past month there haven't been any new updates showing up either on 'yum check-update' or 'yum update' (I'm interested in basic and security updates). Although this may be right, I wonder if there is an online reference where I can check the updates that are released for CentOS (security bulletins) and make sure if there is anything wrong with my update system.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI run Elyssa and have a symbol of a padlock at the bottom right side. This is for updates on software. It tells me that I have 351 updates available. when I open this the updates are shown and each have a number.Mainly 2's and 3's. when I do press the install update button, it gives me the following message:
warning you are about to install software that can not be authenticated....
This message worries me so I have not done any updates for a loooooong time.
What shall I do? How can I tell what is malicious and what is not? does anyone out there know?
I'm having a problem downloading and installing any updates. It compiles a list of updates, then tells me I need to install further updates and generates a list of those. Then it provides me with an error message. Info on which is in the code quote below. I'm very new to Linux, so I can't say I know how to go about sorting this issue. It's a PC with the following processor

I have a laptop running 8.04LTS very well and have been keeping it up to date. I'd like to have the ability to re-install 8.04 at a later time if I had to reformat the laptop. I have the latest 8.04 CD image (8.04.2 I think) but of course there have been many updates since then. Is there a way for me to capture all these updates so that I can reapply them at a later time after a fresh install of 8.04?

What is the usual download speed for updates to the Debian system using the update option under the Administration tab? I am just getting 4700 B/s, but have 5 Mb/s DSL. Is this due to overload of Debian website?

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I run the updates option on it, it tells me that the virus engine is out of date. However, it does not automatically download it, nor does it suggest a site. Is there a way to get the program to automatically download updates? If not, can you direct me to a site that would have the updates? Also, if there is a more newbie-friendly or perhaps more reliable anti-virus program, could someone direct me to it?

I recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 on an old computerd lying around and have been pleasantly surprised by it.I had a small problem with firefox not connecting to the internet but I managed to fix this by disabling ipv6 in about:config. The problem I now have is that update manager fails to download updates and gives a message saying failed to fetch several files.I'm connected to the internet via a wired router

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've noticed this happening on some servers that I manage. I'll be downloading updates around 300 kb/s - 500 kb/s and then out of nowhere it will drop to about 3 kb/s. It will stay here forever, if I let it. I then have to cancel (Ctrl-C) the updates and restart them. This happens over and over and over until I finally get the full download. Why does this happen?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a dual-boot Compaq CQ60-420US laptop. It can connect wirelessly in Vista without a problem. I have not yet figured out how to connect it wirelessly in Ubuntu (10.04, Lucid), but that's not the problem here. The problem here is on the wired side. Whether I boot in Vista or Ubuntu, I cannot get it to go online. Ubuntu says that the Auto eth2 connection is established; I am able to disconnect and reconnect it normally; but I can't download updates and Firefox can't connect to CNN.com. Likewise, in Vista, diagnostics find no problem; everything seems to be fine; but no connection.
I thought the problem might be the laptop's ethernet port, so I bought a Trendnet TU2-ET100 USB-to-Ethernet adapter. It comes highly recommended; it seems to have installed successfully in Vista; it appears properly in Vista's Network Connections; its lights are blinking appropriately; and Ubuntu tells me that my Auto eth2 connection is established when I connect through that adapter. And yet still no connection to CNN.com and no downloads of updates in either OS.
I wondered if some other circuitry might be at issue, so I sent the laptop back to HP. They claim to have replaced the mobo. The symptoms remain unchanged before and after. I went through an extensive tech support call with HP. The last thing their technician could advise was to power cycle the laptop and router. The ethernet connection itself is good. I can unplug the cable from the laptop's ethernet port or the Trendnet unit, plug it into the desktop computer on which I am typing this note, and I'm connected with no problem.
I thought, well, maybe I have to have the laptop's wireless button on, even when I want to connect via wire, but that hasn't made a difference. I tried installing Windows drivers from the Trendnet website instead of from the CD; no joy. I suspect you will be as stumped as I am. I have gone through a lot of other people's comments. At this point, I am just interested in general possibilities. What, in theory, could be causing this?
In general CentOS search automatically after startup for available software updates. Then after some (~20-30) minutes an icon appears in the toolbar which the user can click and install the updates. How can I manually speed up/trigger IMMEDIATELY the search for updates (without waiting for the built-in search)?
View 3 Replies View RelatedThere have been no updates recently (for almost two months) on any of my CentOS 5.5 boxes when I run 'yum check-update'. I may be misunderstanding the repo setup, but looking at the file mod dates, it seems that there hasn't been an update since 2011-01-06:[URL]...Meanwhile, a prominent North American Enterprise Linux vendor has had multiple security and bug fixes since then:[URl]...Is CentOS 5.5 still getting updated, or am I missing something (quite possible).
View 12 Replies View RelatedAfter doing an update a couple of days ago (had previously upgraded to 5.6), the font size in firefox (file forward reload, etc), terminal and the panel (using xfce) are significately smaller. Searching the web, mail lists and the forums have not resulted in finding anyone else with this problem. I did notice that glibc has a bug that is currently being worked on at Redhat but it is unclear if the font problem I am seeing is related. Note also, that the initial upgrade to Centos 5.6 was successful.

I've installed CentOS 5.3 on a machine, and I need a Samba version 3.2 or higher. Since 3.4 is out, I thought I'd grab that. But, "yum list|grep samba" gives me only version 3.0.33. Is there a package of Samba I can grab that will upgrade the 3.0 installation so that I don't have two laying around? If not and I need to compile from source, do you have any suggestions for what arguments I should give configure? I'm not used to Linux coming from the BSD world
