I am about to loose my internet soon, I am not sure for how long, but I am curious, Can I go to another computer that has internet and download updates for my computer, take them back to my computer and install the updates so I can stay up to date?
I have 2 PCs, one of them is updated with latest updates. For sure the 2 PCs have the same OS Fedora 14. How to install or catch those updates in order for me to install them offline on the other PC ?
I am having a computer attached to internet and is updating regularly using update manager. Is there any way to update the other computers which are not connected to internet?
I'm having a problem downloading and installing any updates. It compiles a list of updates, then tells me I need to install further updates and generates a list of those. Then it provides me with an error message. Info on which is in the code quote below. I'm very new to Linux, so I can't say I know how to go about sorting this issue. It's a PC with the following processor Intel Pentium (R) Dual CPU E2180 @ 2.00Ghz
Code: Error Type: <class 'yum.Errors.RepoError'> Error Value: Error getting repository data for installed, repository not found File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 3125, in <module> main() .....
1. Which XFCE on install. dvd Fedora 12? 4.4, 4.6? 2. Can I download installation dvd with latest updates? 3. Is it possible to see content of installation dvd Fedora 12?
I know I can build a local repository but I'd like to try just moving the appropriate .deb files. My problem is not knowing which files I need and it what order. Example... I want to install nfs-common
Doing apt-get install nfs-common --- does it all for me when I'm online. So I looked in the /var/cache/apt/archives to see what was installed. I found two nfs files... nfs-common_1.2.0-4ubuntu4.1_amd64.deb nfs-kernel-server_1.2.0-4ubuntu4.1_amd64.deb
But when I tried to install those on another machine I found I was missing additional files. libgssglue1_0.1-4_amd64.deb libnfsidmap2_0.23-2_amd64.deb librpcsecgss3_0.19-2_amd64.deb portmap_6.0.0-1ubuntu2.1_amd64.deb
For future installations. How do I find all the dependencies and the ORDER they need to be installed so I can write my own script and install them to a machine that is offline?
I am away for two weeks in a Internet free zone - unless I can get it back on - I would like to download the wiki, if possible to browse and try new things. I can update my comp, but will need to take it to a friends to connect.
updates manager constantly crash i tried gnome in safe mode and it doesn't work so i need some way to update the os untill hopefully one update would fix the update.
I am helping a friend start with Ubuntu and he doesn't have as fast an Internet connection as I do. I was wondering how I could easily download all the deb packages for the software I want to install for him. It seems doing:
sudo apt-get install -d --reinstall <package>
Will download the packages for me, but it doesn't get the dependencies because I have already downloaded them... is there a way to get apt-get to get the dependencies as well?
Use Firefox 3.0.7 Use GNU Wget 1.11.4 I have a question about downloading web pages. If I download with web page complete will I be able to open the pages without being on line, or will there be some pages that I will still need to log in for. If a web browser is not sufficient, is there some command I can use with Wget to accomplish this?
For some reason it seems to be downloading too much and taking forever for a small website. It seems that it was following alot of the external links that page linked to.
It downloaded too little. How much depth I should use with -r? I just want to download a bunch of recipes for offline viewing while staying at a Greek mountain village. Also I don't want to be a prick and keep experimenting on people's webpages.
is there a way to get urls of the packages that have been updated and then download them in another computer? like this feature of ubuntu HOWTO: Download package dependencies for offline installation - Ubuntu Forums
its a simple feature and its present in smart and synaptic, yet its not in yast (or i havent found it yet.
i would use smart package manager but in my home connection for checking for updates ,yast is better ( smart downloads filelist.xml.gz that is very way biger than what yast downloads (though it enables smart to show filelist of package BEFORE installing) .so at home i can check for package update with yast ,buy downloading them is very hard. (my connectioon is very bad (i live in iran) and yast mirrors are NOT the best of servers ,so yast gets interrupted in middle downloading a rpm and the whole process is waiting for me to press retry ,so i cant do updates and installs overnight.btw is there some way to tell it to retry always or a number of times automatically? )
i need the url links of rpms so i download them separately and install them.
I need to download emails via IMAP in thunderbird. However, I want the downloaded emails to be accessible from other computers offline. How can I download so that the downloaded copy is readable by thunderbird copies on any computer?

I run Elyssa and have a symbol of a padlock at the bottom right side. This is for updates on software. It tells me that I have 351 updates available. when I open this the updates are shown and each have a number.Mainly 2's and 3's. when I do press the install update button, it gives me the following message: warning you are about to install software that can not be authenticated.... This message worries me so I have not done any updates for a loooooong time. What shall I do? How can I tell what is malicious and what is not? does anyone out there know?
I have a laptop running 8.04LTS very well and have been keeping it up to date. I'd like to have the ability to re-install 8.04 at a later time if I had to reformat the laptop. I have the latest 8.04 CD image (8.04.2 I think) but of course there have been many updates since then. Is there a way for me to capture all these updates so that I can reapply them at a later time after a fresh install of 8.04?
Is there some way to limit the download size of updates for ubuntu? At the moment, update manager shows that I have some 300 MB worth of downloads. I can't find any way to deselect many updates at once either.
Why is it that I kept getting error messages that basically were saying that could not connect to the Ubuntu servers to do download of updates to Ubuntu that is until I switched to the MAIN ubuntu server at which point it worked fine.I tried several of the Ubuntu servers other than the MAIN server and kept getting error messages. Is there some problem with those other servers ?
Twice this week I've tried to download " Important security updates". Each time the response is:
W: Failed to fetch http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/...u9.5_amd64.deb 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.88.30 80] W: Failed to fetch http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/...u9.5_amd64.deb 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.88.30 80]
What is the usual download speed for updates to the Debian system using the update option under the Administration tab? I am just getting 4700 B/s, but have 5 Mb/s DSL. Is this due to overload of Debian website?
I am using two operating systems, Ubuntu and Mandriva, problem I can not download the updates from the main sites. On Ubuntu I changed the mirror site and worked fine. [URL]. I have already posted two sites already about this. How can the main mirror update site on Mandriva been changed.
When I run the updates option on it, it tells me that the virus engine is out of date. However, it does not automatically download it, nor does it suggest a site. Is there a way to get the program to automatically download updates? If not, can you direct me to a site that would have the updates? Also, if there is a more newbie-friendly or perhaps more reliable anti-virus program, could someone direct me to it?
I recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 on an old computerd lying around and have been pleasantly surprised by it.I had a small problem with firefox not connecting to the internet but I managed to fix this by disabling ipv6 in about:config. The problem I now have is that update manager fails to download updates and gives a message saying failed to fetch several files.I'm connected to the internet via a wired router
I don't know whats happening. the second i open either the update manager, add or remove programs, or the package manager tehy close instantaneously and when i click the button for updates on the top bar of my computer it shows a picture of a minus sign in a red circle. hwo can i fix this. i have ubuntu 9.04 and im trying to upgrade it and get new programs but it wont let me. ive tried the sudo get updates etc etc
I still feel as though I should be posting in Beginer Talk but was told that general help could work as well.I am currently using ubuntu jaunty jackalope and completely unfamiliar.I am unable to download updates due to their not being enough free disk space. The sudo apt-get clean and autoclean commands do not free up any space? I have tried tinkering with ubuntu tweak and add remove programs as well but nothing coming.
I've noticed this happening on some servers that I manage. I'll be downloading updates around 300 kb/s - 500 kb/s and then out of nowhere it will drop to about 3 kb/s. It will stay here forever, if I let it. I then have to cancel (Ctrl-C) the updates and restart them. This happens over and over and over until I finally get the full download. Why does this happen?
