Anyone know of an app that can auto sort my download folder. The problem is I use torrents and do not want applications stuck with movies, stuck with music. Is there an application that looks at the file extension and moves files accordingly? I know windows has Digital janitor but I do not believe it is supported in linux.

Update Manager comes up with 247 downloads, but when I hit Install Update I get a white screen and nothing happens. I have just installed 9.10.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I had this folder containing two open office text documents, I hibernated my computer a few times while I was working on one, then when I came back I couldn't save it because apparently it was open by someone else so I exited out and tried to open it again, but the folder it was stored in turned into a picture of a white safe with a play icon on the top right corner, and when I open it, it is just the picture.

As a virtual machine have no BIOS issue, so that's not it. I did burn and not just copy files, so that's not it either. Anyone have any ideas?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am still having trouble installing Debian 6.0.1a (Squeeze) from either CD #1 (KDE version) or netinst version. I tried for a few months to install Squeeze with KDE desktop; now I am trying to build a server, which seems easier (no X.org and KDE problems to worry about.)
Part of the problem common to all my failed attempts (about a dozen!) seems to be that the installer tries to get packages or updates/upgrades from repos but for some reason fails.
I have a commercial all-in-one dslmodem/router/firewall which has very, very limited monitoring capabalities, just enough to show that the PC in question contacted the expected repos (I tried several in different regions) and also shows that no DNS requests failed during that time frame. I did try decreasing the security of the commercial firewall, but that seems to make no difference. I did try to save the install logs, but they didn't fit on a floppy. Any idea what could be going wrong?
I searched but couldn't find this specific error. I'm using a Toshiba with Windows7 and a new 2 gb USB.

I'm on Lucid Lynx 10.4 and Gnome. I have a specific partition for my document, which is in the following folder /media/Documents I don't know why a new folder /media/Documents_ has been created, and my files are in this one. Now, files' permissions are the following :

i recently bought an external 2 TB usb drive and connected it to a philips dvd player. all movies play just fine but I noticed that folder and file names are not displayed on the screen in alphabetical order but in the order they've been copied to the drive.now, i found the way to fix it by using this program: URl...the thing is it won't start in wine.so, is there any way to sort directory tables under ubuntu?

HiI still have a issue where nautilus occasionally wont show my home folder's contents.
(it has no images or videos or music in the home folder directly (only in sub-folders), only other folders and text files, incl dot files for settings)
I have to reboot to get it to work.
Sometimes it does it right after a reboot, a 2nd reboot then allows nautilus to see contents of the home folder.

View 4 Replies View RelatedThe solution may to my problem may exist elsewhere, but I had trouble searching/finding it.I just bought a new external drive. The drive is formatted as ext4. I use it mainly in esata mode. Whenever I connect it, it mounts to /media/[UUID], where "[UUID]" is the UUID of the drive. I want it to be located at /media/backup when it is inserted, not in relation the UUID. I have tried putting a new line in my fstab (mount by UUID to folder) to mount the drive. It mounts correctly if the drive is connected to the computer and turned on during startup, but if the drive is off/not connected during startup Ubuntu barks at me. (I press 's' to skip mounting the drive) Is there a way to make external/removable drives mount to a certain location other than /media/[UUID] when they are inserted? I want the drive to mount to the folder while the computer is running, not only during startup.

Evolution won't auto download mail and if I do it manually by clicking Send/Recieve it shuts down. When I restart it the new emails appear.
If I go to Edit and click on Preferences Evolution locks up and I must force it to shut down in order to restart it.
Basically it's become next to useless.
I've tried using synaptic to Reinstall and Completely Remove the application however when I reinstall the same problems are there.
Is it possible to re-set it back to defaults? I don't mind if I loose all information as I can back up easily enough.
I work for a school district. We are running in a Windows environment with a Windows domain. It was asked of me if I could get an Ubuntu system on our domain and running without issue, as we would like to tinker with the idea of slowly introducing Ubuntu systems to the network.I have a test system here. I added it to the domain using Likewise-Open. I have Samba installed, etc. Here's the next curve ball that I need answered.All user documents are stored in their individual shares on the same Windows server. In Windows, we use re-directed My Documents, so their My Documents actually points to \serverusersob_dole instead of C:/Documents and Settings/Bob Dole/My Documents.
How can we do this in Ubuntu? I don't care if it re-maps the home directory or creates a folder on the desktop that is linked. Either way, I want to log in to ANY Ubuntu system and blam - I have a link to \windowsserverusersmy_share. I want any user on the domain to be able to do that to any Ubuntu system and have a link to THEIR folder on the Windows server.

When I'm in the office, I can directly mount my directory to edit documents, and at home/wherever I can use VPN to connect to the box so it's no problem again.
However: I'd like to know if there is a way to set up a directory on my laptop, that I can use even when offline, and then when I'm connected to the office computer, it automatically syncs with it.
I am using hotmail as my main email and want to setup the evolution as my default email client.but for some reason it couldnt download my folders which are on the server.it only downloads the mail from the inbox.is there any workaround for this.also if i switch to thunderbird would it be able to download the folder from hotmail??

Fresh install of Ubuntu 9.10 with all the new upgrades.
When i type in: sudo apt-get install compiz-settings-manager, I get this response.

i cant seem to find how to do it. For the Keyboard shortcuts, i want to make a shortcut that opens my download folder. I can add custom commands, but in the command line what do i put to open the folder?

i have downloaded some series into my download folder. apparently i did that as root (cant remember how but ok)now i want to delete some of the folders, but i dont have acces. i tried everything. deleting it while as root, using the command line : " sudo rm -R <folder> was the closest i got and i actually succesfully removed one folder. now the problem is that it was a folder named usr, one word. but when i try to delete a folder with more words, its trying to delete all those words seperatly, like ecery word is a different folder.
