A real state agent took one of my pictures from facebook to use it for his bussiness. He charges 2.5% for marketing.
I have created some bash programs (scripts). Can they be copyrighted, if yes then is it mandatory to use GPL as bash (the interpreter) is GPL'd or they can be under any license, even close source?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI think that here was a misunderstanding between the copyright and the license. In short, only my opinion ( I am not a lawyer), it is not illegal to post links to copyrighted material (as long as the license allows it). If it would be, I had to remove the links in my sig to Slackware, XFCE and zsh. All that software is copyrighted. I can post links to that because the license allows me to spread that software. Even GPL licensed software is copyrighted. But I think that as long as the license is not clear, links to copyrighted software should not be posted at LQ.

I don't want a program that plays the movie and then make a duplicate like most windows programs these are TOO slow. Also if I could shrink and change the format that would be a huge bonus.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been away from Linux in general and Ubuntu since 2006, but now wish to make Linux, and probably the Ubuntu distribution, my main operating system, especially for the Internet. I have been using Open Office since version 1.0, so no training or migration is necessary there. However, I have one challenge with my Ubuntu 9.1 ... movies which play under Windows will not play in Ubuntu. Under Windows Firefox needs Adobe Flash Player 10 to play these videos ... is there some open source software that will give Ubuntu Firefox the same capability?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have used Universal USB Installer to extract the xubuntu 10.10 iso and install onto a flash drive. I would like to try a live version of xubuntu that boots from a flash drive. When attempting to boot from the flash drive, the screen effectively freezes after displaying the syslinux / ebios copyright message, with a flashing cursor.
Does anyone know a possible cause or solution? Information that may be useful: I am using a 4GB flash drive, formatted as FAT32. I formatted once using the Universal USB Installer, but some files were left on the drive, so I have reformatted it using the option provided by the Windows interface, (and reinstalled xubuntu.)
When I opt to install onto USB with a 2GB persistence file using Universal USB Installer, the installation processes hangs with a dialogue saying there are 0 seconds left to copy, until the dialogue is forcefully shut (and installation appears to be successful). When I select no persistence file, the process does not hang. (I am faced with the same aforementioned problem at boot time, regardless.)
I have not checked the md5sum (though I have no reason to suspect it will fail.) I have downloaded a simple programme which checks a single md5sum against a single file, although I am unsure which file I should check against in the case of xubuntu, and if the md5sum.txt file represents a single md5sum.
I am using Windows Vista on an old Toshiba Satellite. I am new to using linux, and am very unfamiliar with the the setup and installation procedure.
The copyright year in the newest Fedora download shows still 2010. A screenshot has been attached along with this note. Just thought I would bring the same to Fedora Installation Support team.

previosly i was fat -file system , (d:drive-/dev/sda5), i remember i changed the d: drive(d:drive-/dev/sda5) file system to ext4file system ,with following command using terminal
After doing(changing the file system)this one ,i couldnt see the d:drive data
By doing that
1q) Did i reformatted the partition? i think the new filesystem(ext4) has no knowledge of the data that was on it when it had a FAT filesystem.
2q) How to do undo operation,i tried to change the filesystem type to fat/ntfs in terminal using command --sudo mkfs -t FAT /dev/sda5.
Result:its showing text message-'mkfs.FAT: No such file or directory'(not in single quote)
I had very imp data in d:drive
I just loaded octave. I ran through a few examples of how to implement a script file. Everything works until I get to "plot". When I run the "plot" command I get the following.

Just to double check my work, I ran the following code:

Recently I've purchased a Disney's dvd featuring FastPlay. There is also a sign 'copying protection' on it. While it plays smoothly in Windows, I can't even 'see' it in my Ubuntu 10.10, not to mention playing it. What is the cause: FastPlay or copyright protection?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install Ubuntu on a computer with Vista SP2, my BIOS supports booting from a USB drive. Ive used unetbootin and Universal USB installer to setup the ISO on the drive, as well as trying Ubuntu version 10.04 and 9.10. The problem is that during the boot it stops at a line reading "SYSLINUX 3.86 2010-04-01 CBIOS Copyright ...", no error messages, it doesn't appear to be frozen as there is a blinking cursor under this line. The boot performs normally up to this point, it happens when, during a normal boot to vista, it says "boot from CD/DVD" then loads windows. It shouldn't be a hardware issue, the computer is pretty new, and I had an older version of Ubuntu install on it temporarily.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI downloaded Fedora-14-i686-Live-Desktop.iso and used the Fedora liveusb-creator to put this on a 2GB USB stick. Everything seemed to have gone well and it said complete; however, when I try to boot from the USB stick, I get a black screen with a linux copyright notice at the top and it just stays at that screen forever. I tried this on two computers with the same results.
I'd previously tried with Ubuntu and had a similar issue, it would go to a purple (if I remember correctly) Ubuntu screen and it sat that forever.
After a recent Ubuntu update, I can no longer sign into any accounts using Firefox.
Can't log on to Amazon, Google, Ubuntu forums...anything
I'm using Epiphany 2.28.0 at the moment to post this message.
When I enter my user name and password for any account in Firefox, it just returns the same sign-in screen with blank input boxes; or nothing happens.
I tried clearing cookies. I've tried starting FF in safe mode. Still no success.
I was using windows xp, then I've installed ubuntu using the windows installer that [URL] offers. Before the installation begins, the program first asked me about the user name and the password that I want to set. but nothing about the root password. Later when i tried to sign in as the root, the password i've provided didn't work for the root, but it works with my normal user name. So now I want to sign in as a root.

I have been recently been using Ubuntu machines in my faculty labs at university that have % as the terminal sign for the line rather than the location.
For example,
% kate &
% echo "helloooo" > hello.txt
%
I find this extremely annoying as I am used to % being replaced with a path to the current directory followed by a $. Like a default Ubuntu install.
For example,
james@james-pc:~$ cd Documents
james@james-pc:~/Documents$
I would like to know if there is an easy way to change this to what I am used to? I don't necessarily need the "james-pc" bit, the username would be nice but I really want the path to the directory.
I was curious if there was a way to maybe change the orange page graphics when ubuntu 10.10 opens to the log in. That color is really hard on the eyes and I figure it might be a background graphic that I could maybe replace to something less bright.
