I have downloaded the linux version of Rise of the Triad and I'm able to start this program if I double click it (Files.png) but I want an entry in the menu so that I can start it from the menu, but what's the command to start it from the menu ?I already tried ./ and sh in front of the command but it doesn't work (menu.jpg).

But when i click on the icon in the start menu or on desktop it fails to start, when i also click on a .pdf document it also fails to start!
I just installed TuxGuitar - very cool - and to get the sound to work I had to install Timidity++ as well. Before I start TuxGuitar I have to execute:timidity -iA -Osin a terminal window first, which is kind of a pain to do every time I run TuxGuitar.How do I get this line to execute on startup such that timidity is running when I start up? View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running GuitarPro6 on my EeePC, and it will only start correctly if I start it from a terminal, in the install directory (/opt/GuitarPro6)
If I attempt to start it from somewhere else, like ~/, I get a library error. GP appears to want to look for this library in the working directory, and will only find it and start if I CD to /opt/GuitarPro6 first.
For this reason, I believe, when I click on the shortcut I made in Main Menu, nothing happens.
Is there any way to define the working directory for a shortcut in Main Menu?

The thing that bugs me the most is the fact that each program has its menu (ie File, Edit etc) in the top panel. This may be fine for netbooks but not my laptop.I just launched Tomboy, which startde with its window in the bottom right of the screen, however to get to the programs menu I have to move the cursor all the way to the top right of the screen - miles.

View 4 Replies View Related1st, I got the OS install. I just want to hide some program launcher from menu bar. In the old Gnome, it work this way, I put the mouse on the menu bar, and then right click, choose preference then I can hide everything I wanna hide. But I can not do that on F12 any more, I tired to refer to Gnome instruction manual on Gnome web site. It seems like they did not change anything on Gnome 2.28. Since the instruction remain the same.
2nd I also want to ask, how do I change the default interface language setting in F12? In previous version I just need to do that in SYSTEM-->Preference. But I can not see the option any more either.
3rd I can not install the NVIDIA proprietary driver even though I got GCC and kernel development header in place. The install log said:" The binary file is not for the kernel" Well, I just use the regular i686 kerenl as usual. It does not make sense it will not work.
I got the driver running by using the rpmfusion driver, not the one from Nvida
By the way, The nouveau driver in F12 works far from OK on my GO 7300. It just like a slave driver that whip the GPU at full out all the time, let alone it does not have 3D capability.
The live cd does not include GCC and kernel development header. That made me feel like walking on the moon but forgot to put the gravity suite on.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have installed Matlab into /opt/matlab and the file to run the program is located in /opt/matlab/bin and is called matlab. I created a file:

and placed it in /usr/bin.
From there, I can run matlab by typing 'matlab' in a Terminal window. My problem is that I created a link in my start menu with the command 'matlab' but all I get is the splash screen for 5-10 secs then the program crashes out. However, when I run it from a Terminal, it loads up just fine.
After upgrading to v10.60, Opera will not run from the KDE menu. A entry appears in the taskbar and then disappears without opening any window. The entry for Opera in KDE menu has this command:

If I open a terminal and type "opera" or navigate to /usr/bin and click on the opera script there, it starts up just fine. Seems like it should be simple to fix, but I have tried various entries in the KDE menu ("opera", "opera %u", "/usr/bin/opera") and this same behavior occurs with any of them.
In the lower right corner was always the icon to let me know that the network is working, the 2 monitors?. Also in that corner was the program Parcellite that I used all the time. I accidentally deleted them both and now cannot get them back. I can't even start Parcellite from the menu and when i try to start it from the terminal this is what I get:

I've tried removing parcellite by uninstalling it, then reinstalling it and i still get the same thing. I even uninstalled it, then rebooted, then installed it again and still nothing. What the heck did i do??? any clues?
I am giving my old PC to my parents and I installed Kubuntu 8 (Hardy Heron) s the PC was rather old and now I can't get the thing to shut down by going to thte start menu. I usually have to go the power switch which then kubuntu picks up and shuts down normally. On shutting down, a load of error messages come up regarding knetworkmanager.

View 9 Replies View RelatedIt's a long story, but on my tri-boot (Ubuntu 8.04, Win 7, Win XP), both Win 7 and Win XP need to know that Linux has previously run. I've therefore written a little program in REALbasic that automatically creates a text file named linuxran.txt and puts it into the root folder of the partition where Windows XP is installed. Under Ubuntu, this location is known as "/media/Win XP". It's an 80 gig partition of a 1 TB drive, the same disk that Win 7 is installed on. In my partition app under Win 7, I labeled the partition "Win XP."
The good news: When Ubuntu is completely up and running, the program runs fine. It checks if the file already exists, and if it does not, it creates it. So in Ubuntu, under System ==> Preferences ==> Sessions ==> Startup Programs, I put my little program, figuring it would run just fine. The bad news: Unfortunately, it didn't. It's trying to start before Ubuntu has mounted the "/media/Win XP" drive/partition.
Possible solutions: 1. If I could somehow set my program to run after I know the other drive has loaded, I would be all right. I know the prog is fine once the drive is loaded, because it does what it's supposed to when I run it. Is there some way to put my app in the startup process after Ubuntu has mounted all the drives? 2. Put some code in my app to make Ubuntu mount that drive before the rest of the prog runs. Not sure if this one is practical. 3. Set the program to run, not when Ubuntu first starts up, but rather, right before it shuts down.
I like option #3 the best because it would require no re-coding. Ubuntu would have had plenty of time to mount all the drives. Is there some way to tell Ubuntu, "whenever you're told to shut down, always run this little program first?"
