Very recently I started using Evolution as my mail client. Before that I was using MS Outlook. Everything seems to be OK with Evolution but I find 2 startling limitations.
1. How to set up out of office auto reply
2. What is the equivalent of mail archive.
I tried to google it and looks like many people have the same issue but no proper solution. Is this really a limitation with Evolution?
Does anyone know of a way to configure dovecot for Auto-Reply Out of Office messages? Preferably one that clients can do on their own from their PCs.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI ended up setting up a basic linux file server as a pdc for that office. Our main office is a windows 2000 ads domain. The two offices are connected with a vpn. I only have two users at the new location so I simply have the linux and samba usernames/passwords setup manually. I would like to know if it is possible to setup a domain trust between the two sites so I don't have to create a username/password in the remote site for every user at the main office to access. I did some searching but came up empty.

I am trying to setup a file server for a small office but have hit a couple of hurdles, is there a step by step guide how to setup a network for windows and mac computers to use it? I had setup a share etc but once I restarted the server all the files disappeared which I had in the home folder? Also when I setup users how can I use passwords that I select as everytime I set one it encrypts it and uses that instead of my one?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have spent some time testing out different backup solutions for my small home office during the last weeks, but still haven't found anything that have been working out too well yet. We can definitely work with a non-GUI script if that's what it takes, if only the requirements are fulfilled:
- Upload to Amazon S3 Europe. We get unbelievable slow uploading speed to US, so uploading 400+ GB of data will not be happening anytime this year...
- Incremental backups - only changed files shall be uploaded or we will have a big bill from Amazon in the end of each month..
- Files should not be uploaded in one big per-folder archive. This is not efficient at all, since if we change one file in a subfolder, a huge two-digit GB sized file would have to be uploaded during next backup. Not good for economy again, or traffic overhead on our internet connection.
I am wanting to setup an office network consisting of three computers and one server. We already have the equipment ready with Vista Business pre-installed on the computers. I want to be able to create a network which allows users to use any machine as this will reduce downtime should a machine break. Also I would like user's files to be held centrally on the server which makes backups easier.
The most important element here is data backup. As like most businesses we are moving away from paper and using the computers to store important records such as customer information. If this data were to be lost, the business would come to a complete halt.
I have been looking at the idea of installing a Microsoft Small Business Server as it would be nice to have centralised control of the machines. However the cost would be over 800 which can not be justified for three machines and five users. Therefore I am turning to Linux for a alternative solution. I have previously used CentOS and Ubuntu for home use but never really gained much knowledge or experience of either.
It is my understanding that Samba can act as a Primary Domain Controller, which if I'm not mistaken is where it handles the network logins and profiles. Is this correct? I have come across many samba tutorials online but whats confusing is they are all different. Some of the tutorials involve using Kerberos and OpenLDAP. Do I need to learn about either of these? What do they do and what benefit will they bring?
Finally, I see Samba 4 is in development and is likely to bring a lot of new features which aren't available in Samba 3. Is this worth waiting for because I don't want to be upgrading everything again 6 months down the road?
I'm running Debian Squeeze (6.0.1) 64-bit and I'm trying to run Microsoft Office 2007 (due to formatting issues with OpenOffice) through Wine (version 1.0.1 from the repositories). I followed the instructions over here but when I try to run the setup I get an error box with the following message:
Setup did not complete successfully. We are sorry for the inconvenience. An error occurred during the installation, and setup was unable to complete. Please tell Microsoft about this problem. And there are two button: "Send Error Report" and "Don't Send". And the installation is aborted. Is there anyway to make this run?
I am new in linux,I installed apache-tomcat on fedora.I can view all web pages on localhost:8080 but when I try to view them by server's url address from another computer, I don't get respond.Can it be a firewall problem or something else?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed karmic, then damn small linux - the DSL's loader would not recognize my xubntu automatically, so I got GRUB 1.97 on xubuntu and it recognized my DSL and added it to the menu with 3 alternative resolution options.
Now, xubuntu starts fine, but when I start DSL in any of the modes, I get the following output:
1. 'vga=normal is deprecated use gfxpayload=text before linux command' comes up in the same font as GRUB menu is displayed - but only for a split second, I had to video it to read it!
2. Uncompressing linux... ok, booting the kernel - similarly, disappears before you can read it, and the computer reboots.
Below are my /etc/default/grub and /boot/grub/grub.cfg.
Does all that mean I want to edit /boot/grub/grub.cfg even though I apparently must not?
NB I have some problems with my hard drive, I have to fdisk it a lot but that's probably because my laptop has a dead BIOS battery - I'm having to fdisk it every time I boot up etc. I'm a bit lost with this to be honest! Anyway, please forget the hard drive note unless you seriously suspect it's at fault for GRUB problems.

QUESTION: I have some backups using these formats: .sdw, and .odt. Can Libre Office read documents saved in these (StarOffice / Open Office) formats?
FWIW: I would have preferred to use OO on both machines, but unfortunately OO never fixed a problem with printing envelopes in the Macintosh version. Hence my use of NeoOffice.

I am attempting to setup a network to network VPN tunnel between our main office and a temporary location. This location need full VPN access back to the main office's network.Anyhow we have spent about 3 solid days attempting to make this work without any great success. I have both installed, but since LO is going to be the way Ubuntu goes for office applications, can I easily have my system setup for native LO? Native being if I double clock on a .doc file it will start up LO's Write program instead of OO.Will just removing OO achieve this or is there an easier way? I looked for file associations and didn't find it.

The theme changed and instead of regular menus I get "window" menus, in the sense that they get effects as regular windows. It's hard to explain it.

I tried uninstalling it and installing open office and also in the soft center open office is more than once, but I tried the different versions and I still get the same problem.
I have install ubuntu 9.04 on my machine. When I am trying to ping google.com, I do not get ping reply but I am able to browse Internet. Also, I am able to ping any of the local machine on LAN.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've noticed that after the initial startup and updates, if I shut down ubuntu I cannot get back on. The loader just gets stuck at the "Logo screen".When run in recovery mode I recieve the following errors (a few in duplicate):"mount all main process (556) terminated with status 2"."mount all-shell (559) terminated with status 2"."could not get password database information for UID of current process: user '???' unknown or no memory to allocate password entry".After this I'm left without even a command line and nothing I type does anything.I've never had problems with ubuntu in the past after using it for about 6 months but this is the first time I've tried running it alongside windows 7, could that be the cause?

I have configured DNS on ubuntu server 8.10 and it is working fine. There is one question I have though. Everytime I ping a LAN device by name I get the reply from the server with only the IP Address.
