Ubuntu :: How To Save Settings To Import Them Back On Reinstallation

Jan 24, 2010

I've installed the latest version of Ubuntu on one of my systems. I need to wipe it out and replace it with another OS for testing. After a week or so I'll reinstall Ubuntu.I've customized the looks and feel of Ubuntu desktop and have changed many other settings at a number of places. Is there a way so I can save my settings (like the desktop background, the screen saver settings, colors, terminal window settings including its fonts etc., and others) in a file or a set of files which can then be imported directly when I'd reinstall Ubuntu?

Ubuntu :: Custom Compiz Settings Will Not Save?

Jan 23, 2010

I am experiencing a similar problem as this thread but I do not use the fusion-icon.[URL].. Compiz will not save custom settings when compiz-settings-manager is used. It will save setting thru "Simple-settings-manager". In addition, some settings will not take effect immediately. Example: The "viewport switcher" in "Desktop-wall". Color changes will not take effect unless I change the "preview scale".Quote:

Ubuntu :: Won't Save Monitor Settings Upon Reboot / Sort It?

May 4, 2011

So I have a fresh updated install of 10.10 on dell dimension 4550

The pc connects to my monitor through a dlink KVM switch so I can switch back and forth between computers.

When I reboot my monitor settings disapear and everything is real real large.

If i disconnect from the KVM and connect Ubuntu directly to the monitor and detect monitor it will allow me to adjust settings so everything looks normal. Until I reboot and I am back to the same huge icons again. If I try to go back and adjust monitor settings there are only 2 settings options because it does not see my monitor through the kvm switch again.

Ubuntu Installation :: Save The Default Grub Boot Settings?

Jun 27, 2010

I just installed Ubuntu Server 10.04. When I reboot, it stops at a "grub>" prompt. I figured out that I can continue booting by entering these four commants:

set root=(hd0,1)
linux /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-21-generic-pae root=/dev/sda1 ro
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.32-21-generic-pae
boot

I can't figure out, however, how to save these as the default so that the machine can boot without someone present to enter these commands. Running "grub-set-default" tells me "entry not specified." I don't see anywhere in /etc/default/grub that looks relevant.

How do I save my default grub settings?
