Ubuntu :: Custom Compiz Settings Will Not Save?
Jan 23, 2010
I am experiencing a similar problem as this thread but I do not use the fusion-icon.[URL].. Compiz will not save custom settings when compiz-settings-manager is used. It will save setting thru "Simple-settings-manager". In addition, some settings will not take effect immediately. Example: The "viewport switcher" in "Desktop-wall". Color changes will not take effect unless I change the "preview scale".Quote:

Did you play too much with compiz and after-a-while you realize that certain functions are not working anymore?
Well, just follow the steps below:
Quote:
gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/compiz
Then,
Quote:
Restart your PC / lappy

Config a CentOS iptables.I issued some iptables rules.the rules were effective at once. Then, I came with a "iptables-save", but the "/etc/sysconfig/iptables" file hasn't been updated, it still loads the defaults rules with CentOS after reboot.

I was finally able to make the internal mic of my Vaio w12 work properly both sound recorder and in skype...I added this line in alsa-base.conf
Code:
options snd-hda-intel model=auto
The problem is that everytime i restart the netbook the "Input so" switch automatically to "Front mic" instead to keep the setting "Int mic".
I tried to use sudo alsa ctl store but nothing change...Maybe there is another way for to set "input so" to "Int mic" by default.Im using Ubuntu 9.10 desktop 32 bit.

how I can save xinput settings? I'm running Peppermint Linux on an eeepc 701.After a few weeks, I've finally figured out which settings to configure with the xinput command to get my touchscreen working correctly. However, when restart the netbook all the settings are lost and I have to reconfigure each time. I've found threads saying to save settings in xorg.conf file, but apparently my system doesn't have this file.

I recently bought one K3806 Vodafone Mobile Broadband usb stick. My pc is a Dell Latidude D620 notebook (Bios A0 running Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal). I downloaded (from Betavine) and installed without any error/warning the 3 packages ozerocdoff, usb-medeswitch and vodafone-mobile-connect. Then I plug the K3806 in one usb slot. The mount -v command produces following output : /dev/sr1 on /media/10.1.108_RP154 type iso9660 (ro,nosuid,nodev,uhelper=udisks,uid=1000,gid=1000, iocharset=utf8,mode=0400,dmode=0500) The mount point directory contains following files :

I've been looking around on the Internet for a comprehensive tutorial on 'how Compiz works', 'what all the settings mean' and 'using' Compiz; but, so far, have only seen things describing how to do a certain thing or other. I've gone into Compiz Configuration Settings Manager and poked around but what I've seen in there seems extremely technical (in other words - I don't know what the heck these settings mean or what would happen if I changed one of them). So far I've manged to get the magnifying glass thing and I have wobbly windows (don't know if I can take credit for that though). So I see all these amazing demonstrations of it on you tube and whatnot and I wish I could do some of that stuff but I'd really like to approach this by learning all about Compiz from A to Z rather than learn this thing and then that thing, etc.
Is there anything out there that you know of? Ann ebook or something? I saw a book called: "Compiz Fusion" URL... that really, interests me but it is not available as an eBook (believe me I looked and looked and looked) and it's pretty expensive.

I have an external monitor at work, but not at home. I take my laptop home and when I come back the settings are off. My monitor is above my laptop, so I have to rearrage displays and save every time its plugged in. Isn't there a system file or something somewhere that I can write to and save the current state as the default?

I was reading a FAQ on Fedora and it states that there is a way that I can Log Out and most importantly for me "Save Settings". Well I selected my user name in the upper right hand corner and selected Quit and then Log Out but I was never asked to "Save Settings". Where can I find this "Save Settings" thing when I log out?

I've installed the latest version of Ubuntu on one of my systems. I need to wipe it out and replace it with another OS for testing. After a week or so I'll reinstall Ubuntu.I've customized the looks and feel of Ubuntu desktop and have changed many other settings at a number of places. Is there a way so I can save my settings (like the desktop background, the screen saver settings, colors, terminal window settings including its fonts etc., and others) in a file or a set of files which can then be imported directly when I'd reinstall Ubuntu?

How do I make the settings stick?

So I have a fresh updated install of 10.10 on dell dimension 4550
The pc connects to my monitor through a dlink KVM switch so I can switch back and forth between computers.
When I reboot my monitor settings disapear and everything is real real large.
If i disconnect from the KVM and connect Ubuntu directly to the monitor and detect monitor it will allow me to adjust settings so everything looks normal. Until I reboot and I am back to the same huge icons again. If I try to go back and adjust monitor settings there are only 2 settings options because it does not see my monitor through the kvm switch again.

I have three audio devices on my system;
1. a builtin (broken)
2. an HDMI on my graphics board
3. a USB audio device (i am using this one)
I normally shut off the system each night. Next day, I have to go through the pulse-audio mixer and re-set all of the audio settings. They are apparently not being saved. I've searched the forum for 'save audio' and similar terms but no joy.
