I am new at ubuntu I had installed the 9.10 but couldn't get to net so stopped and right now I installed the 10.4 ubuntu but I cant get to the net. I have done install few method but the latest one said it not supported well. How to use net with my modem sagem fast 800.
View 2 RepliesInstalling 11.2 from KDE LiveCD on an IBM ThinkCenter with 3.2Gb CPU and 1Gb RAM. Ubuntu 9.04 on first two partitions. I go through the configuration, click to 'install': Install display bars remain blank. After 2-3 minutes, black screen with scroll of attempted installation pieces and the error message: "Respawning too fast. Disabled for 5 min." Freeze.
Other posts mention problem with init. But this is happening with the install so not able to address that. No apparent md5chksum for LiveCDs. No mention of this problem in installation help guide. Does anyone know how to deal with this? If you need more info, I will provide. Though it seems this is not an unusual problem when booting an installed system, there's no mention of it happening during installation.
find and install modem driver for the Alcatel X200 USB modem?
I've been all over the internet trying to locate Linux drivers but no success. Alcatel's website says is not supported, only in Windows. I'm sure there's gotta be a way to use the X200 in Linux.
My wireless seems to be fast for a good 30secs then bang takes good while to load the next page almost as if it's disconnecting and then reconnecting/scanning reconnecting. Why cant it stay connected. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have loaded 9.10 ( 64 bit ) under VMWare Workstation 6.5 and each new install results in fast audio ( mp3 ) and video ( avi, mpg, etc ) playback. I am trying to keep the installs as vanilla as possible. My other VM distros are fine.
I am creating the VMs under vista x64, SP1 ( now updated to SP2 ), using workstation 6.5 ( will upgrade to 7 later on ).
I Have installed openSUSE 11.3 using VMWare and liked it so I thought I would install as my main OS. So I downloaded the latest livecd Gnome and created a usb install using imagewriter with suse. I can boot to the initial menu asking if I want to boot the livecd or install. If I choose either it will begin to show a lot of things on the screen scrolling really fast and then the screen will go black. I've waiting up to about 15 minutes with no result.

I just pop into my computer and idea was to dual boot with XP and gradually solo Ubuntu. But it is a bit slow (for my old hardware Penntium III , 256 ramm ) Music player asks for add ins for everything i try to play (mp3 , flv, wmw etc). I cant download those add ins as ubuntu does not let me install my modem which is (CDMA 2000 fixed wireless phone made by ZTE china). I have driver for it for xp but they dont work for ubuntu. How can I install those add ins and my modem.

I use one of those 3G (cellular) USB modems from companies like Verizon. Basically, it's a cell-phone, with the phone component taken out.
I did something similar with Debian recently, but I had to install the kernel along with the 'dpkg' package, to the HDD. From there, I had to reboot into the core system, install the packages like ppp, wvdial, etc, and then continue with a fresh install of the rest of the system.
There doesn't seem to be a way for me to either install the core files to HDD, or install the internet connectivity packages in the live environment for my modem.

I have just installed Ubunto 10.4 on a old fujitsu laptop. But I have a new router D-link 8xx and a new Gigabyte GN-WB32L usb dongel. I think I got the insallation right but Ubunto will not detect my wifi usb modem. I can see the network symbol in uppr right corner of main menu, but it�s red marked (not connected).
View 2 Replies View RelatedA problem with kppp. It will not detect modem after a fresh install. It did last week before Ubuntu 11.04 turned up its toes, but when it worked it was weird. It found the usb modem on /dev/ACM0 as user but /dev/usb/ACM0 if logged in as root. Now it will not open modem at all. Gnome ppp has no problem and wvdial correctly identifies it.

With an external modem, this works no problem. With an INTERNAL modem, the call never goes out. I fired up minicom to make sure the modem was working correctly, and if I issue those AT commands from within minicom, everything works great.
While minicom was running, I noticed a peculiar fact: WHILE minicom is running, the script works from the command line, and I can see all the AT commands and OK's in minicom, (minicom acts as a monitor). When I exit minicom, the script stops working. It appears minicom is creating a bridge between the com port and the modem itself. So, what is minicom doing that I'm unaware of?
The server's sole function is to run asterisk as a voicemail server (avaya wanted well into 6 figure territory to implement this....). This script is to dial an avaya FAC to turn the voicemail message lights on and off on the end users' phones.
I have a brand-x usb-modem and much to my suprise it had a .deb package to install the driver.The only problem is it fails during the "make" and I dont know enough about C to be able to fix the error. I'm not even sure what information is needed to help me with this chore.

"Visit Ubuntu Packages Search and search for each of the following packages. Download them to a folder that is also visible from Ubuntu (or to a USB stick).
As I cannot access the internet I had to go back to windows, download them onto a memory stick, go back on to Ubuntu and install them. The first 12 worked fine and are now installed but number 13 and 14 wont allow me to update because "the dependency is un-satisfiable" does anyone know what this means and how I can fix it? I was also unable to get the USB ADSL Modem Manager too install either because of another error.
