Fedora Hardware :: HP Printer - HPLIP Driver In The Repo Doesn't Work Correctly

Apr 22, 2010

I recently had problems with my HP printer in Fedora 12, where as I never had a problem with it in any other distrubution.... For some reason, the HPLIP driver in the repo doesn't work correctly... I don't know why... but I kept getting errors with "error: Printer queue setup failed. Please restart CUPS and try again."

I tried every suggestion I found... which was installing extra dependencies, disabling firewall, disabling SELinux and a whole bunch of other stuff... but nothing worked... THEN finally I decided to use the HPLIP driver from the HP website... it was a .run file... and I executed it, and my printer has worked perfect eversince..... my question is.... has anybody successfully installed their hp printer from the hplip driver in the repo's..??? I don't know why it didn't work for me, and i've seen other fedora users complain of the same thing? maybe theres something wrong with the package? or its not pulling in a needed dependency? I don't know...

I did an upgrade using preupgrade program and it went very well. However, I have lost my HP 1020 printer. Can anyone assist with this. I tried to use HPLIP-Gui, but it doesn't even see the printer at all. The other problem is that I get the following message when trying to use Yumex:

Ubuntu :: Printer Won't Work After HPLIP Upgrade?

Jan 27, 2011

I'm running Ubuntu 9.10. The Update Manager did an update to HPLIP, the Hewlett Packard Linux Internet Printing software, one or two days ago. When I went to print today, the HP Officejet 4500 printer showed up in Open Office when my mouse pointed to the printer icon. But, the printer wouldn't work. Then I noticed that the HPLIP Toolbox icon was moved from the Applications - Accessoires folder, to the System - Preferences folder. I reinstalled all the HPLIP software, using the Synaptic Package Manager. When I click on the HPLIP Toolbox & run the HP Device Manager, it says "No Installed HP Devices Found".I was a little surprised to see the software upgrade caused the HPLIP toolbox to move fromhe Applications folder to the System folder. Because of this, I suspect there may be a bug in the upgraded software? Is anyone else having this problem?

OpenSUSE Hardware :: HPLIP With 11.2 64-bit - OfficeJet Pro L7680 - Don't Get The Printer To Work

Dec 5, 2009

after an update to 11.2 (from 11.1), 64 bit, I don't get the printer to work. I reinstalled the driver and checked in cups: it says that the printer is available and waiting for a job. When I send something to the printer, nothing happens. The priont job will be stopped immediately. The printer is properly connected: xsane finds the scanner, that is part of the printer, without a problem. The printer is also ok: I can copy documents, it just works fine.

Fedora Hardware :: Parallel Printer CUPS Fedora 15 HP Doesn't Install Driver

Jun 3, 2011

This post is for an HP parallel printer but I think it should work for at least "some" other parallel printers.I am sure that someone smarter than me will follow up this post with a "well, just do this and that" and you will have your HP Laserjet 6P printer ready to go, but since questions litter the forums of MANY distros on how to get "at least" an HP parallel printer to work, I'll post this anyway. This may or may not work for you if you do not have an HP but you can try it.The install printer box will let you do an install for an HP Parallel and it asks for how it is to talk to it, through CUPS sock or "local host'. When we get through what I recommend you should chose "local host".

Fedora Networking :: HPLIP Port Settings - Printer Not Recognized

Aug 5, 2010

I have recently installed Fedora 13 on my netbook. I wish to use my HP Officejet via the HPLIP utility. The problem with this is that when I have the firewall turned on, the printer is not recognised at all during setup. When the firewall is switched off, the printer is recognised. The printer in question is an HP Officejet 8500a which is connected via Ethernet cable to a wireless router. I would like to know if there are any network ports (that's used by HPLIP) that I could 'turn on' in the firewall that could let my computer recognise the printer.

Server :: Hplip Fails To Install Correctly

Apr 9, 2011

Installing support for Phototsmart 7150 on Ubuntu 10.10 server (no desktop).Installed 3.10.6 and 3.11.3a.
Installation hangs at the point where the printer is supposed to be detected (after the prompt to restart). At that point I break out with Ctrl-C.I then run hp-setup and select usb. That process complains about missing dbus file but prompts for the printing of a test page. The job begins but only a few lines are printed before the page is ejected, some more lines print, the page is ejected and so on.Have tried to uninstall with make uninstall but since there's no desktop I suppose the hp files are in the home folder? Please inform of proper uninstall for my case.I have also installed hplip via the webmin config. That install proceeds smoothly with no errors but print result is same.

Fedora Installation :: Software Update - Fedora (2.6.34.6-47.fc13.x86_64) - Nvidia Driver Doesn't Work

Sep 1, 2010

Fedora (2.6.34.6-47.fc13.x86_64) I installed that update, during the installation process it said that it had to remove three packages, one of them was kmod nvidia for the old kernel (Fedora (2.6.33.8-149.fc13.x86_64))After the update finished installing the new kernel, I restarted the system and Nvidia did not load. (I assume because Update manager removed the old nvidia? But I also assumed that a new version would be installed automatically?)I received the following Boot messages:

Code:

Entering non-interactive startup
Starting monitoring for VG vg_user1: 3 logical volume(s) in volume group "vg_user1" monitored

[code]....

I'm confused, if Update Manager removed kmod nvidia, then why does yum say it is installed? And why doesn't the new kernel update work with that version? Or should I install a driver version for that particular kernel? I've read while searching that I need to install a kmod-nvidia for that particual kernel version and that I should login to my previous kernel until that happens, is that the problem I'm having?

Why don't rpmfusion and fedoraproject release the kmod-nvidia and kernel updates at the same time to avoid problems such as this? Does anyone know how long does it usually take for rpmfusion to release the new kmod-nvidia driver for the latest kernel?

Ubuntu :: Hibernation Doesn't Work Correctly After Upgrade To Lucid?

May 11, 2010

After the upgrade, I've noticed a problem I haven't had before - hibernating worked fine to the last. The problem is, although the system correctly hibernates, it makes no attempt to "wake" from hibernation when I power it up - it boots normally, and with fsck-ing like it was powered off without proper shutdown (understandably). I don't know why it happens, and I've skimmed the logs, but noticed nothing special. What could be the problem? What could I try? Which log should help someone find that out?

OpenSUSE Wireless :: RTL8191SE Driver On Compaq Presario CQ62 Doesn't Work With XP Driver

Oct 23, 2010

No wireless networking. The ethernet works fine, and the wireless interface itself works well in Windows 7 (dual boot). Tried: Ndiswrapper, notoriously quirky, does not seem to work with the XP driver (the oldest driver available for the RTL8191SE). The linux driver offered on the manufacturer's website lacks any installation instructions. I have no clue how to install a linux driver. SUSE seems to have two network managers that are constantly complaining about control: Network Manager and Yast. Neither are great and I am left missing my Ubuntu.

However, my audio only seems to work on SUSE. I have tried almost every distro on this machine. Ubuntu lacked sound and wireless, Fedora played startup sounds, but would not play an mp3 or wav file (fiddling with the mixer did not help). And Fedora also lacked wireless support. PCLinuxOS, my favorite, lacked sound and wireless. Tried some oldies too. ELE, DSL, Puppy, Ubuntu Netbook remix, Vector, Browserpuppy, Crunchbang, Cruncheee (just for experimental sakes) and probably others I am not remembering. So far, installing a free linux distro has cost me 14 dvd-R's and countless hours of installing, reformatting and reinstalling. Part of me really wanted crunchbang to work, as I love the minimalism and blacked-out theme.

I need wireless network access. The wireless light remains red in Linux and pressing the key does nothing to start the device. In Windows 7 it always lights white and works perfectly. Why hasn't SUSE adopted a gui for ndiswrapper? Other distros have it. Why is my brand new laptop, which is by no means abnormal in make or configuration, not 100% supported natively by any Linux distro? I just updated to the new kernel yesterday. So I should be running the most modern operating system available. Yet good-ol Windows 7 is my only fully functional environment.

I have also modified to the cups-pdf.conf file and have directed it to /home/{USER}/PDF And yes the aforementioned folder (i.e. PDF) exists at its proper place.

So I think the main problem is "P2POutputStream" error which you can see in the image.

Ubuntu :: HPLIP Option Not Present When Setting Up Printer?

Apr 20, 2010

I just built a system and put a fresh install of ubuntu 9.10 on it. I have two other systems with 9.10 as well. On both of them the printer (an HP Officejet Pro 7680 set up directly on the network) is shown as an HPLIP printer with a URI that starts with hp:/net/ . When trying to set up this printer on the new machine the option for HPLIP is not present and the URI starts with dnssd://. I can only set up as and LPD Network Printer or an Appsocket/JetDirect network printer. Yes I have the hplip stuff installed on the new machine. My main concern is actually using the scanner function with Xsane. The other two machines scan just fine, the new one can't find any devices. I think this must be connected with the lack of HPLIP functions. This is with the AMD64 bit version of 9.10
