I want to restart panel with changed language.If we want to start an application with changed language we just change the LANGUAGE variable value. What if I want to do the same with gnome panel.how can i do that?
View 4 RepliesI changed the language on my 10.04 install to Canadian English, but now I have this icon in the Gnome panel that allows me to switch from USA to Can. I live in "Can" so have no need to see it displayed and have no interest in using American English so I have no desire to see that displayed. How can I have the system speak Canadian English and only that with no button on the panel letting me know what language I'm using?

I use 4 languages on my Gnome Desktop, that's the max that they allow! I also use flags as language indicators on my gnome-panel. The problem is that, I am using two Indian languages and the flags for these two is the same.. (The Indian one!) I would like to use custom flags for these two languages.. I know that I have to place them in /usr/share/pixmaps/ ..... But, how do I ensure that these two languages target two different files? Presently both the languages are using the in.png file...
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have openSUSE 11.2 with default GNOME desktop and i'm facing issues with keyboard layouts, which are changing randomly. Problem is that i have GNOME in Slovak language and therefore has openSUSE set durring installation my keyboard layout to 'Slovak' but i always change it to 'Slovak QWERTY' which suits me better.
Problem is that randomly system adds back to my layouts which are 'Slovak QWERTY' and 'USA' also original 'Slovak' layout which was previously removed.
I must always manually remove this third layout and it's very frustrating. Many times on fresh system boot it's anyway back and so on and on... Where may lie the problem? Why is GNOME not respecting my settings? In Ubuntu i never have these basic issues. Are there on system boot some specific SUSE triggers which are overwriting my configuration?
Recently updated to 10.10 Wondering if it's possible to change the start icon on the gnome panel? In the past I have been able to accomplish this by navigating to the theme's icon folder (usr/share/icons), replacing it with my new icon, updating the cache and restarting gnome. That method doesn't seem to be working however.

Unfortunately, it makes the globalmenu and clock applets disappear on my gnome-panel. My panel is set to system theme, though when I choose a solid color I can get the hidden text to show up. I want to preserve the system color so I need to change the text color somehow. Also, I don't know why it uses that bluish color when clicked on since I never defined such a color in the appearance settings.
If I try to change the icon style, it changes the icons in my desktop and in Nautilus, but it doesn't change the icons in the panels nor the ones in the menus.

If I:
1. Add drawer(s) on the gnome panel
2. add items to one or more of those drawers
3. reboot then:
1. all empty drawers can operate normally
2. drawers that have stuff in it cannot be opened.
I changed the Language and the keyboard to Amharic (normally I use US English). Ever since then I have been unable to log in as the keyboard is typing in Amharic and the original password was created in US English. I also tried << Ctrl+Alt+F1 >> and typed in the login name and password, even Root and the password but no luck.

View 6 Replies View RelatedRegarding the gnome-panel in Ubuntu (64 bit).... I discovered some time ago that I wasn't the only one who routinely (every login) had their gnome-panel appear butchered, for which Alt-F2 then 'killall gnome-panel' would easily fix.
Having become impatient with this over the past 8 months, I decided I would automate the process and so cofiguring the startup applications seemed like a perfectly logical choice to me. Turns out I was wrong. After adding 'killall gnome-panel' to the startup applications not only does the panel fail to load altogether now, but Alt-F2 doesn't even work.
I tried Ctl-Alt-F1 and working with the graphics-free mode thinking I could somehow navigate to the startup apps config file and edit it, but I don't know where it is or how to edit it without logging in as root and I certainly don't know of any 'root password'.
How I can set that my left panel fit the top edge of the screen (instead of top panel)?
View 6 Replies View RelatedSo I just updated my IdeaPad to Natty and played around with Unity. The performane was absolutely unbearable so I installed Unity2D from the software center. Now when I start the session everything seems to be fine at first. Whenever I move the mouse over the panel though it seems to switch to my old gnome-panel from the "Classic" session (with some missing icons). When I move the mouse over that panel again it switches back to the Unity panel style. What is going on? Can I fix this somehow? I will have to use the classic session until I get a working consistent behavior

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've installed Ubuntu 10.4 and the gnome-panel appears half, as you can see in the attached picture, if I try resolutions over 1024x768.If I kill the gnome-panel and it restarts, or if I change its properties, it became OK, but in startup it appears like the image.I've tried other Gnome 2.3 based distributions and occurs the same issue. With Gnome 2.28 it doesn't occurs. Then ii seems a gnome 2.3 problem.
PD: My grafic card is a Matrox G550.
I just installed ubuntu 10.04 on our laptop. for convenience I also installed the dutch (gnome) translation and selected Dutch as the default language so all menu's and localisation is suitable for the Netherlands and the misses understands stuff. However I noticed that the gnome terminal is also translated so all output from bash is now in Dutch too. This is really inconvenient since I have been using bash in english on fedora and ubuntu for 10 years now. So is there a way to reconfigure gnome term (bash) to default back to english and leave the GUI in Dutch?

version: gnome-applets-2.32.0-1.fc14.x86_64
symptom: via right click on a gnome panel, perform "add to panel" and choose Dwell Click.
Gnome panel bites the dust with SIGSEGV at this point, restarts, and then you've got dwell click on the panel.
Anyone else seeing this, and better yet, have a solution?
I use Ubuntu Karmic 9.10, been trying to change the font colour with regards to time/date, and the 'Applications, Places and System' buttons, along with the wireless network, battery life, volume control and the indicator applet. I have it as 100% transparent because I prefer that look and feel about it, but I can't find the controls to change the colour of the text etc on the pannel..

I suppose my question would be, where is the "panel-shadow.png" file located that I can edit and make transparent? I found it before but cannot for the life of me now.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI do not use Empathy or Evolution, the default programs used by the messaging panel notifier in GNOME. Rather, I use Skype and Thunderbird for all my needs. Is it possible to change the settings in the panel notifier to use these programs instead? Otherwise, the notifier is completely useless to me and I'd like to remove it individually without removing any of the other panel notifiers that I do use, which is what happens when I right click it and choose "Remove from panel."

I tried Gnome color changer but only works for the texts and the drop down menus. I use Gnome classic (hated Unity). My goal is to make ALL of the panel background black.
