I 've been trying to install Globalmenu menubar after having installed all the other Global menu packages that appear on the Ubuntu Software Center. I 'm using Ubuntu 10.10 with Gnome environment and mostly as a graphic environment (i don't have knowledge on source codes)..The error message that i get when i try to install the menubar is the following: Package dependencies cannot be resolvedThis error could be caused by required additional software packages which are missing or not installable. Furthermore there could be a conflict between software packages which are not allowed to be installed at the same time.

The PPA for GlobalMenu no longer works in Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit. I can't figure out how to get AppMenu added to the panel, either.

I am using Ubuntu 9.10 x64, and I finally got gnome-globalmenu working! Unfortunately, I am unable to edit its configurations using its "Preferences" menu, as I just have a big blank area where my preferences are supposed to be. Is there a way to fix this, or a way to edit my preferences manually?am using gnome-applet-globalmenu 0.7.9.

Basically as the thread tittle suggests, I've got Xubuntu 11.04 installed as I didn't take to Unity. However one thing I really did like was the global menu. Back in 10.10, I installed GlobalMenu from a webupd8 ppa, Worked like a charm. However under xubuntu 11.04, that ppa doesn't seem to work, and I don't like the look of compiling from source, as all the instructions call for installing xfce4 panel, which obviously I already have, and I have no idea what else I have of those lib's. All this is intended to run in xfapplet, so hopefully I'm not being silly and trying to run something somewhere where it won't run.

Bit of a shot in the dark, but I don't suppose that anyone has/knows of an x86_64 rpm for Gnome-globalmenu? Compiling the source is proving to be a real pain

how to get a globalmenu applet in my top panel?
I checked the packman repository ... not there. I tried to build the tarball from ...
Downloads - gnome2-globalmenu - Project Hosting on Google Code
... but got hung up when sudo ./configure replied: test for libpanelapplet-2.0 and libnotify failed. (--without-gnome-panel to disable)
the error did not go away when i installed libnotify-devel (and libpanel-applet-2-0 was already plugged int).

I tried to install globalmenu today, but gave up after. I am not sure if I removed the application accordingly, but the menubar for some applications is missing (attached pic of a terminal window without menubar).

I've recently tried gnome-globalmenu-0.9.7 on my Linux Mint Helena and it causes Emacs to crash whenever I disable and re-enable the menu-bar. Is it just me or has anybody else noticed this?

I'm trying to install Ubuntu Desktop 64-bit on my laptop. When I try to boot off the cd, and select 'Install Ubuntu', it loads 'live' (for lack of better terms) and takes me to a desktop. When I click 'Install Ubuntu' from the desktop, my cd spins for a sec, then stops. And it does nothing.

I am trying to install Ubuntu 10.10 on a Intel i5 quad core with 4 gigs of Ram. The Motherboard is an Asus P7P55D-E with an Asus Engt-240 Graphics card there is no on board Video Display. The issue that I am encountering is that the live CD begins to boot and then returns with a blinking cursor. I tried running the alternate Boot Cd with the same issue. I can get to the option screen on the live cd by holding down shift but anything that I select after that I am once again presented by a blinking cursor.

I am currently running a small headless home server with ubuntu 8.04. I have had it set up and running for a while, and once or twice a week, I will ssh in and do an apt-get update and upgrade. However, the last time that I tried to do this, I got disconnected from the wireless in the middle, and since then I have not been able to upgrade. code...
I get the same error, regardless of whether or not I try to upgrade, or install a new package. After searching the net, I have tried 'dpkg --configure -a' but get absolutely no output. I have deleted the .deb files and redownloaded them. I have tried to clean, autoremove and many others. I finally decided to connect the monitor to the server, and I found I had errors in my root partition. I booted with an ubuntu rescue disc, and ran fsck on the partition, and it found and corrected many errors. But after I reboot into the normal OS, all the errors come back. I am hoping that I don't have to reinstall the whole server, because I am happy with the set up that I have now. If it comes down to that, I guess I would probably have to put a new hard drive in it. Before I do that, I was hoping that someone on here might know of something I overlooked or didn't try. Maybe it is an easy fix, and I just haven't been able to find it yet.

On an Asus EEE 900A with EEEbuntu Std 3 installed, and a 4GB SSDrive, trying to install some educational programs thru Add/Remove.
Is it possible to download the programs to a USB thumb drive, so there is no space used up in the already limited 4 GB SSD?
Tried to place a program on the Desktop, and then move it to a USB thumb drive, but it did not work.

This error is actually slightly different from another one that I was previously receiving involving 'var/lib/dpkg/status' and the "Breaks" field issue. If anyone knows how to fix this it

how I can install and make bootable a usb stick. I have tried multiple walkthroughs on this subject and not one of them has worked, i am trying to do this via windows, i cant get any workable wifi drivers for linux i have an atheros wifi card. the closest i have come to getting the usb to work is the splash screen then it freezes and this was with linux live usb creator 2.0 it doesn't matter which ones i've tried i can't get them to work no matter what version i try to use. it's driving me mad.
i want the usb to boot without having a hardrive present in the computer. i just got a possible driver that will work for my wifi card and i will put that on the stick too then install it when i get the usb stick to boot into linux. i honestly dont know why there are so many walkthroughs on this subject that dont work it's silly. oh and besides bookmarking each post i make where is the button that links you to your own posts without having to manually search them out?

how to make an ubuntu live USB that's bootable, without having to install qt? I've looked at the ubuntu guides on the matter but they either seem to be out of date, incomplete, or tell you to use unetbootit that requires qt. It seems silly to have to install hundreds of MB of qt on my tiny eeepc just to make a bootable usb.
