In xubuntu 10.04, Whenever i startup my laptop, xubuntu loads up well and everything. it prompts me to enter my passwprd then after that it starts up as normal...the problem is that my videos file is always open and in the taskbar on the desktop when i startup.

1-open all files in a folder when drag and drop the folder on it
2-search and replace a statement in all open files
3-have an extended mode which include special characters like
and so on.. i want to know if there is an editor with this feature in ubuntu?
I basically am hoping for a line of bash script I can put into "Open With" for folders so I can get a terminal with the right path. I hate manually typing in paths to places when I am looking right at them in nautilus. "gnome-terminal" doesn't work - it just opens a terminal to ~.

VMShare /media/VMShare vboxsf defaults,gid=1001,dmask=002 0 0
Where did 1001 corresponds to the virtual share group.
When I boot up the permissions are as follows(from ls -l):

So I'm curious why it's group permissions aren't the same as owner? In the fstab I put dmask=002 which should lead to rwxrwxr-x so basically full permissions for owner and group and read/execute for public. However thats not what I'm getting. Also once I get this working correctly am I going to have an issue if the virtualshare group isn't a users primary group? On some older unix servers I ran into this issue, hopefully it won't matter as long as the user in in the group.
I have Lucid Lynx (10.04) installed, and have this annoyance with various terminals and the Help Menu automatically opening at startup. So every time i boot up i get a screen full of open terminals:
1. Ubuntu Help Centre
2. File Browser
3. Desktop Terminal
I have tried looking at the Startup menu under Preferences but there is no entry for any of the above.
I click StartUp-Manager from the System menu password prompt the "preforming pre-configuration tasks" starts up then... nothing. no startup manager window.

i m running suse 11.2 on a generic desktop machine with two external usb hard disks for data storage. when i restart, the names of the names of the usb disks get changed in /media from exampledisk to exampledisk-1, another boot up and i get exampledisk-2. the data is no longer in exampledisk, but in exampledisk-1 or exampledisk-2.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI changed some settings to see what will happen ( specifically to login with having to type my password) and now I can log in without a password. The problem is that I think that my password is still required, but now I can't use my laptop. Here is what happens log in (it doesn't ask for a password), then I get the error that it can't update ICEauthority, then I get the error "There is a problem with the configuration server./usr/lib/libconf2-4/gconf-sanity-check-2 exited with status 256)I also get the error that Nautilus can't create my Desktop folder and .nautilus folder.The problem is that I do not have another account, as in no root account. Nothing is shown on the desktop and trying to access home or any folder inside gives me an error which says:
Could not open location 'file:///home/lisandro' No application is registered as handling this file

I was trying to get Wicd to start automatically at startup so I found a chmod... line of code online and copy/pasted it on my command line. Now whenever I boot the computer, when I get to the KDE desktop, the BASH window opens, Opera opens and I get a bunch of Wicd error windows. How can I fix this?

After installing Ubuntu 10.04 on that same computer, I tried to open the my document folder then i was denied access to it because i was the wrong user. In windows xp, the My documents folder was not password protected. Is there any way to hack that folder, I have a bunch of pictures in there that I want to retrieve. On the folder icon, it shows and x and a lock. I think it means that is either encrypted or password protected.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi have hundreds of saved websites in my bookmarks. i'm trying to organize them into folders (one for ..... videos, one for movies, one for news articles, and so on, and each of those folders has sub-categories as well). the problem is when i try to organize the contents of the folders in my bookmarks, my bookmarks closes whenever i drag website into a folder inside of a folder.
for example, i can save a website and drag it to my "videos" folder in bookmarks no problem. the problem is, when i save a website and drag it to a folder inside of a folder (bookmarks -> videos -> music videos -> rock) the bookmarks closes. it's a real nuisance because it's making it take a really long time to organize my bookmarks. how can i keep bookmarks from closing whenever i drag a website into a folder inside of a folder.
under 11.2/KDE 4.35 I'm not able to move through the directory tree, neither with dolphin nor with konqueror.
If I click on a folder, a plus or minus sign appear alternately, but the folder isn't opened.
If I double-click on the folder icon, nothing happens.
So under 11.2 I just can not access the files stored under a previously installed 11.1 in the home tree (i.e in a separate partition on that HD) !
Is my machine too slow ? Do I have hardware too old (Pentium III Katmai on an Intel mainboard with onboard graphics) ?

I have only a small annoying thing: the little open folder triangle icon in Nautilus is replaced with a big horrible (IMHO) plus button. Because I want to retrieve my files above all else, I installed ubuntu to a usb-stick and booted it directly from there. I can asses /media/myharddrive/home and there's a folder called lennard, which is the user account on my laptop. I can't open it however, because I don't have the necessary permissions. I'm afraid I encrypted it with an option that was standard to ubuntu. I have a 23-digit code right in front of me but I'm not asked to enter it so I don't know what to do with it right now.
