The problem actually lies with Firefox (3.0.19) After I solved my problems, everything looked fine at first. That was until I went to one particular website and found that some links were missing. They simply were not showing in the browser. They were showing in the source code, so they should have appeared. Now, I have two different profiles by using:

Recently Firefox is showing some but not all the links inside a page in a website that I use every day.Firefox had worked well in the past years with this site, so I made a few tests:- I tested the web page on Firefox 3.5.9 on Fedora 12. Some links missing.- I tested the same web page on IE8 on Windows Vista. No issues, all links there.- I tested the same web page downgrading Firefox to version 3.5.4 and downgrading the required libraries. Same issue, some links missing.- I compared the html code that the web server hands to both IE8 and Firefox. They are exactly the same.I don't know enough about html or javascript to understand why Firefox doesn't like some of this code portion.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a website that has a massive list of royalty free stock photos and I want to download all of them. I have bought a membership for [URL] so I am able to download as much as I want from them for the next month.
Instead of going page by page and manually downloading each set of stock photos manually, I would like to automate this process. Here's my idea:
1. Download the website with the links to hotfile [URL]
2. Use grep to retrieve all the links to [URL]
3. Feed the links I recieve from grep into wget and download the works of them.
The problem I'm getting is when I use grep, It retrieves the entire line of html code where "hotfile.com" is shown. So here is an example of one link I receive in the output:

I need to write a script called '~/get_birthrate' which when invoked with a two letter country abbreviation(i.e, au,ch,ni), extracts the appropriate line which contains the information about the country's birth rate from the [URL] (where "ca.html" should be replaced with the appropriate two letter abbreviation). The output should look like:

I've actually gotten a webserver (hardy heron, server edition) working before and had a Joomla site up I could find on the net. But I did a fresh install of Lucid Lynx (desktop edition, that I added some packages to to use as a server). Between the router (wrong ip address?), port forwarding (set right?), my domain nameservers (godaddy) and the DynDNS service I use (for dynamic ip) I must have a wrong setting because, my joomla website shows up at localhost, but not 'out there' so to speak. I would like to get this site out there and working soon, as it's one I'm just doing free for a Community Garden.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running Linux from a DVD, not installed. I am not good with installing software, but since the DVD cannot be corrupted, I am content to operate this way. Lately, I have been having problems that previously did not occur. When I try to click on the checkbox to get rid of emails, it doesn't register in most cases, or when it does, I am clicking multiple times so it registers twice, meaning it is unchecked again. Even more frustrating is some issues that are affecting my ability to update my business. I am trying to modify spreadsheets (text not calculations).
Whenever I try to click & drag to select something to change, it keeps jumping around to select only some of what I want, something else or some combination of the 2. When I try to copy and paste several fields from 1 column to another, everything from the several fields in the source column ends up together in the last field in the target column. I am also trying to download some images from a website. There is a single column of links to the images. I have to click on the link to get to the image in order to copy it, then back out to continue looking for more links to do the same.
My computer keeps jumping back 2 steps, then forward 2 steps, and sometimes I lose my place in that list. I could deal with it if it were a small number of links, but this is a list of probably close to 20,000 links. Again, i am operating off of a live DVD so this should not be corruptible, but this has just started happening, and has been an issue the last several sessions.
I have been having trouble getting Thunderbird to open links within my emails. When a link is clicked there is no response at all. I am running firefox version 3.6.2 and Thunderbird 3.0.3. After surfing the interweb and the forums I have tried setting the default browser through Firefox itself and through the preferred applications GUI in Ubuntu with no luck. I have gone into the about:config for Thunderbird and added the following lines:
network.protocol-handler.app.http /usr/bin/firefox
network.protocol-handler.app.https /usr/bin/firefox
Clicking on a web link in an application used to open Firefox in the foreground, on top of the calling application in previous versions of Ubuntu (i.e. whatever versions of applications shipped by default).
In Ubuntu 10.04 if I click on a link in an email message then it opens the page within Firefox 3.6.3, but leaves Firefox behind the calling application. I would prefer to have Firefox take the focus and load the web page on top of my email. I have tried the usual fixes (setting browser.tabs.loadDivertedInBackground and disabling the Ubuntu extensions), but I can not make Firefox take the focus. Funnily enough, most of the threads I see refer to preventing Firefox from opening on top.
Don't know what I done but when i click on the links in the places menu, they open in firefox now, how can I get them back to the way they are?

View 1 Replies View RelatedIt appears that clicking on a link in Firefox doesn't work until you move the mouse, i.e. if I put the mouse on a link and hold it stationary and click the link, nothing happens, but as soon as I move the mouse, the link then activates. Sometimes, I have to double click the link to get it to work. I've read some posts where people claim that Firefox "freezes" until you move the mouse. In my case, Firefox doesn't "freeze" in the traditional sense. It just that clicking a link doesn't behave properly as it should. I didn't have this problem in 8.04LTS (or previous distributions for that matter) only in 10.04LTS. I'm running the 32-bit version on a Dell Latitude D600 laptop with nvidia-common driver 0.2.23.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I click on a link in say Evolution, in workspace 1, the page will open in an open Firefox in a different workspace, say 7, but a item will appear on the panel of my current workspace. When I click that item I will be moved to the workspace 7. I find this very confusing.I would prefer the behaviour to be, if there isn't a Firefox in the current workspace to start one and use that rather than reuse one in a different one.

Instead, a new instance of Firefox is started (even if I've already got an instance of Firefox running), and that instance just opens my homepage. Of course I can work around this problem by right-clicking on the link, selecting Copy Link Location, then manually pasting the URL into Firefox. The link under the site name used to be a nice grey and now it's standard weblink blue. Not critical of course but I do personally find this annoying. I tried changing the weblink colors in Firefox but that didn't help. Anyhow have any idea how to get my original color back? It's unreadable in that awful blue.

I have check all my settings and they seem to be fine. Firefox is default browser, clicking a link should open a new tab in Firefox

What stop me to just download the .deb package from mozilla for the version I want and install it? Will it be less integrated to the system, will it not be compatible with my 64bit ubuntu? I just find it so much simpler to download a package from the web and double click on it than going through terminal, yet no-one seems to propose this option.

It is a famous chair manufacture, which produce the famous line "Aeron Chairs". When you are on that web page, if you move your mouth to the "product" tag near the top of the page and click on "seating", you will see all their fancy chairs. Then after I click on the first model, I realize my entire ubuntu (10.04) was hung.
The month can still move, but sluggish and everything else lost responses, including keyboard and gnome panel and etc. And the only thing I can do is a hard reboot. And this problem is reproducible.
I can't find any error message from .xsession-errors, or dmesg, or syslog, or user.log or any log.
Is this a known bug for firefox or ubuntu?
I have a strange problem with my browser(s), even Epiphany....when I go to my music site [URL] then log in, go to my page and click on link to play a song the browser Crashes. It never did this before and I dont know what I could have done to cause this. It only does this on this website. Could it be that they use a Quicktime plugin to play the music? I don't know cause I used to be able to play music on there before. It doesnt do this on my Reverbnation site page, just Icompositions. If I click on the icon to restart browser a box comes up saying "we're sorry"...your browser crashed for no apparent reason.....and offers a choice to either reload the page (that repeatedly crashes) or start new session. It isn't a big deal but this never used to happen before. Could it be some bad code on that website?
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe basics: Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid x64 with Firefox 3.6.11 on a Thinkpad T61p 2gb ram/500gb HD. When I try to access my email via Squirrelmail, Firefox hangs on loading. If I stop the page from loading, wait a few minutes, then try again, I have a 50:50 chance of it loading this time.
I've run the update to make sure I have the most recent versions of software, but it still hangs. I've tried a few cursory searches, but find nothing referencing Lucid or that is otherwise current.
