How can I change the Ubuntu icon to the default GNOME icon, on the main GNOME menu, using an official or 'clean' way of doing it
Is anyone else seeing the default icon in GNOME Shell instead of the usual Firefox icon? I am talking about the default icon that looks like a purple diamond.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'd like to have a notification icon popup when a new email message comes in. I find that I need to keep the Evolution window open to see the popup notifier, which kinda defeats the purpose of being notified when you've already opened the program and can see the message right there.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have avant-window-navigator in my startup appplications. This apparently causes gnome to use the Gnome icon theme on boot, instead of the Humanity theme I selected in Preferences->Appearance. I just have to go to Preferences-Appearance again to get the Humanity theme back to work (I don't even have to change any settings, just going there is enough.) When I remove awn from my startup applications, this problem doesn't occur.

View 9 Replies View RelatedThe short version: I have created a launcher shortcut on my Desktop for Evolution Mail, and right now it uses the springboard icon. I would like to use the icon that I see in the applications menu launcher for Evolution. Where do I find this icon?
The longer version: A few Ubuntu versions ago, I got rid of the Evolution Mail icon from the top panel, as there was no apparent way for me to set mail accounts to other than the standard ports. I went with Thunderbird instead.
Well, while Thunderbird gives me a box to set the port number in, Evolution doesn't, but I can still specify my nonstandard port by placing a : and the port number after: example.com:26 for a mail server at example.com om port 26.
Now, I have put Evolution Mail to use, and have created a desktop launcher for it. For now I am using the default springboard icon. I see the envelope icon in the applications menu for Evolution but I have no idea of the icon's address. I am familiar with Windows XP, and it is easy to assign a program's icon to a new shortcut. I have just added shortcut for example.exe. I go to the shortcut's Properties and click on the icon, and immediately see the program or library file that contains the icon I am currently using, either as an embedded icon or set of icons, or I see an .ico file for that icon. I can navigate to Program Filesexample and see either example.exe with its embedded icons or example.ico.
I created a new shortcut on my Ubuntu Desktop. and was presented with a springboard icon. I click on the icon in the creation process and am presented with a pile of generic icons, much the same as with Windows.
if I open the Properties and click on the icon, I end up looking at a listing in my Home directory. This is regardless of where the current icon is located. I looked in /usr/share/applications/evolution and saw icons folder, but it had no envelope for Evolution Mail. All I see is icons dealing with the calendar, in anything from 16x16 to 48x48 and scalable.
It's a minor problem, but when I run Evolution the "New Mail" button is way bigger than all the other buttons
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I got Ubuntu 10.04 beta the first thing I did was to uninstall Empathy as it was crashing a lot and I was used to some other application.Currently I want to use Empathy and reinstalled it.My problem is that instead of chat conversations "merge" with the evolution envelope icon Empathy seems to have it's own static icon. It's annoying because the icon is the same "green orb" whether I have a new message or not. The problem is not the version (2.30.0.1) as a personal friend has the same version and has it working fine.I already searched google and forums and tried re-installing empathy, indicator-applet, indicator-messages or evolution-indicator, cleaning cache and all.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to remove evolution notification icon and stay only with volume control?I appreciate the effort made to integrate everything in 10.04, but it is not a really nice feature to me, since i do not like empathy and i hate evolution. I think ubuntu should put more effort in freedom and less effort in making people all obliged to use the same apps.

View 7 Replies View RelatedWithout a long tale; suffice it to say I had to do a clean install when I upgraded to 10.10 version. I have messed up evolution e-mail and my document viewer settings. I have what I need as far as by ISP settings but the Evolution folders; well that is messed up. What I am looking for if it is out there would be links {read directions to} tutorials for Evolution and Gnome. Everything comes into the unmatched folder on evolution so I think I need to find where to read up on 'Folder rules and permissions'. The document view just is not working so I know I need to read up on that; I think it is part of Gnome but I'm not positive.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an error icon in my Gnome panel that will not go away. It appeared after running an apt-get command (explained below). Everything is working fine, but I cannot get the error icon to go away. Surely there must be some file somewhere storing the state that is making this reappear. The icon occurred after the following: I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04. Yesterday, I decided to add the Medibuntu repository to my apt sources based on the instructions at [URL] -- i.e., I ran the command:
sudo wget --output-document=/etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list [URL] && sudo apt-get --quiet update && sudo apt-get --yes --quiet --allow-unauthenticated install medibuntu-keyring && sudo apt-get --quiet update
In the terminal window, I saw the following error message amidst the other output:
W: GPG error: [URL] lucid Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 2EBC26B60C5A2783
However, everything appears to have worked fine. The Medibuntu repository has been added to my sources, the keyring has been added, and I am able to install packages from the repository using apt-get without any errors.
Nonetheless, an error icon appeared in the Gnome panel after running the above command-line, and it will not go away. If I move the mouse pointer over it, the following text displays:
An error occurred, please run Package Manager from the right-click menu or apt-get in a terminal to see what is wrong. The error message was: 'Unknown Error: '<type 'exceptions.SystemError'>' (E:Opening configuration file /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/99synaptic - ifstream::ifstream (13:Permission denied))' This usually mean that your installed packages have unmet dependencies
The file /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/99synaptic it mentions is present and is readable (at least as root). Running Package Manager works fine with no errors. I've tried running
sudo apt-get check
and it runs fine without any errors. Likewise,
sudo apt-get update
and
sudo apt-get upgrade
run fine with no errors. But the error icon remains.
If I log out of Gnome and log back in, the error icon returns. If I reboot, the error icon returns as soon as I log back into a Gnome session. How to I get rid of this?
I created a menu entry to run MATLAB using
Code:
gnome-terminal -x /usr/local/bin/matlab After using MATLAB a few times, I realized that my gnome-terminal icon has actually been replaced with the MATLAB icon, even when I'm running the terminal by itself. Meaning that it shows the MATLAB icon in the taskbar and the Run Applications dialog when I type in gnome-terminal.
One day, I was altering the size of the icons to make them smaller. I first made them larger (to 150%), and then shrunk them down to 66%. I did this through Nautilus while being in the /var/www folder. The Desktop icons resized down to the 66%, as well as all other icons. However, the icons in the /var/www folder remained large (at the 150%). I've tried changing it, and no change occurs in the particular folder.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm new to openSuse after installing it on my work machine as a replacement for Ubuntu.
I have Evolution mail up and running and all is well other than I am having a problem when receiving mail.
When I first start Evolution, it checks and downloads my new mail without any issues however whilst it is running it won't download any mail, either automatically or manually via the Send & Receive button.
It appears to be checking my accounts (the progress box pops up briefly) and is not reporting any errors, just not downloading until I close Evolution and then restart.
Sending is working perfectly.
I must admit that I "imported" my old mail in a bit of a cack-handed fashion and did have to uninstall/re-install Evolution - I noticed that it uninstalled a few extra packages however when I reinstalled, it only selected the main Evolution packages.
The fact that it is receiving on Evolution start-up I think rules out my settings being incorrect.
