May 20, 2011For a change I installed Konqueror 4.6.2 today. When I login to Gmail it asks to enable ActiveX. Google detects Konqueror as IE. I haven't touched browsing profiles.

View 5 RepliesI was wondering if anyone has figured out how to access their Gmail files via IMAP on Konqueror? There is supposed to be an imap:// kio slave, but I can't get it to login to my Gmail. I tried imap://username@gmail.com but no luck. I also tried [URL].. since I think the username has to include the @gmail.com part. But still no access.

use any browser and go to gmail. i can't get gmail to load. if i browse on videos, links to videos don't work. they appear to be taking a long time to buffer, then a message appears saying to try again. sometimes, links on google search pages are all dead. yahoo mail loads as far as logging me in, then i get a page with all dead links.
i'm using a laptop at several locations that have free public wifi. at some places, everything works perfectly normally. at other places, google and yahoo are almost useless. the "bad" places work just fine under ms windows.
so i figure it's a networking/handshaking issue, but that's all i can figure. i need help to troubleshoot it further. if it's happening to me, it has to be happening to other people, and i consider it a major hassle.
My college internet providers shifted to a different setting.. defined in the changing lan proxy settings on the user end. I.e.ip - 192.168.0.200 and port to 3000. This to reduce misuse of the net connection ..The thing is, since then, every other website is working, except GMail. It isnt blocked, the Nebero page shows up for blocked sites. When attempting to open gmail, the default internet page shows up for unavailability of page owing to no or slow response from the server, or the firewall or proxy settings not appropriately configured. I cannot open gmail, the connection on empathy im. I cant ping gmail either. No response. What can be the problem.

When I try to install the ActiveX control, it runs successfully for a bit, then says: Code: The Mozilla control was unable to detect where your Mozilla layout libraries may be found. I googled for "Mozilla layout libraries" and saw that apparently the win32 ActiveX build has a problem, but the thread appears to be from 2005, so, although it is the same error, I doubt if it is the same problem. Not just that, I don't have a windows compiler anywhere, so I couldn't recompile anything with that fix anyway.

I ran into this problem first when I used rhythmbox for the first time. It needed to install plugins for my mp3s, but I can't authenticate into synaptic. The dialogue asks for "Password for root:", where I think it should ask for "Password for $USER:"
Why is this, and what can I do about it.
PS, This is a fresh install of 10.10. When transferring my old userfiles over from my old Karmic install I had to userdel the user I used when installing, and then create another user with the same name and details. The reasons for this escape me at the moment, and no doubt were entirely of my own making, but that's what happened. Has this got something to do with it?
ICQ in Kopete asks for a password but its right.

I can successfully play h264 and vc1 encoded HD videos with vdpau acceleration using Gnome MPlayer or SMplayer, but in order to accomplish this, I have to provide -vc ffh264vdpau/ffvc1vdpau as an extra argument for MPlayer. Now this totally sucks as I have to manually type this in for HD videos and remove for all others every single time... What's worse is that I have to know what the video is in advance so I first need to analyze it before playing. So, I figured that if there's a way to tell MPlayer to aways use ffh264vdpau codec for h264 and ffvc1vdpau for vc1 videos, I'd be free to just click and watch.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI do like a lot of the changes they've made in Lucid (especially the aesthetic ones), but there is one change they made that I don't like, and I can't figure out how to get around it. I have Ubuntu set so that, after 10 minutes or so of inactivity, my screen is blanked, in order to save power. In Lucid, though, whenever I come back to my computer after the screen has been blanked, it requires me to entire my password in order to resume use of my computer. Is there any way I can turn this off?
This next question is unrelated, but I do still feel the need to ask. Why, exactly, did they move the minimize/maximize/close buttons from the top-right corner of the window to the top-left? I know that it probably feels natural to Mac users, but every previous version of Ubuntu has had these buttons in the top-right corner.....why on earth did they feel the need to change it? I've been using Ubuntu for a while now, and it's kind of annoying. Surely most people who've been using Ubuntu for a while were thrown off by this, as well? I doubt that there is any way to change it, but does anyone know if there is?
I found much of the info is out of date. I installed Lucid - my /home was on a separate partition so I did not format it to keep the original settings and mail. When trying to send/receive mail, Evolution now asks for the old login password from the previous install to open the mail keyring. "The password you use to login no longer matches that of your login keyring" There is a box to enter the old PW.
SOLUTION:
-Go to Applications-Accessories-Passwords and Encryption Keys
-Right click on Passwords:login
-Select Change Password
-Type your old login password in the "Old Password" field
-Type your new password in both the Password: and Confirm: fields.
-Click OK
-REBOOT
Evolution will now use your new login password to access the keyring.
I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 and trying to install a printer over the network which is plugged into a Windows 7 machine. I can see the workgroup fine and the computer fine on the network, but when I try to double-click on the computer (both via the nautilus and the printer setup route), it asks me for a username, workgroup and password.
I tried the account's username and password and username "Guest" with no password but neither worked. The weird thing is that when I booted my machine into Windows XP and tried to install the same printer, it never asked me for a username and password and installed just fine. Why is Samba/Ubuntu asking me for the Windows 7 password when Windows XP didn't need it?
I'm new to Linux altogether. I installed World of Warcraft and have it running, but my framerates are low. I have it set to run in OpenGL already, so I figured I'd try to update my graphics driver. I downloaded the driver and it's a .run file. I have it set to run as an executable. When I run the file, I get a window that asks for my password. I input my password and press enter. Shortly, I get a window that says I need to run this file as super user. I tried to go into the command line and I typed "sudo home/nicholas/downloads/ati-driver-installer-10-8-x86.x86_64.run". I put in my password and Konsole tells me "run: command not found". How would I run this file in Konsole using super user?

I seem to remember there is a section for questions about other distros but I can't find it anymore. I have made a live usb from a Debian testing live image (.img) using the dd command. It all worked well and it booted flawlessly. But then when it booted into the Debian screen it asked for my user name and password. I never set any user name and password so of course I couldn't log in.

View 5 Replies View Relatedwe're switching some of our workstations over to Ubuntu 10.04. For the most part, the change has been good. But.... Evolution just doesn't seem to work very well at all. We're using Google apps with our domain, and our connection is quite slow (512/128 VSAT for ~45 users). Evolution has a lot of problems sending and receiving email. I don't know if it's because of the slow connection, but before, we didn't seem to have problems with Outlook. I'm using the Mail.app on my Mac, and it sending/receiving is slow, but things eventually get through.
On the Ubuntu computers, Evolution really seems to get hung up on sending. It just sits there. I've had one user where their messages just sat for a day and never got sent. When I went in to look at it, I canceled, started the process again, and it asked for the SMTP password (which it seems to do a lot). Once it had the password, it was able to send. Receiving, however, was still very very slow and usually nothing comes in (although there are clearly new messages).
I have Chromium on 11.04 and I can't set it to be default. If I go into preferences and select it, nothing happens. If I open Chromium, it asks every single time if I want it to be my default browser. Regardless of what I say, it asks me each time.
