Ubuntu :: Enable 'intellihide' Behavior For Xfce4 Panel?

May 18, 2011

I was wondering if anyone knew a way to enable 'intellihide' behavior for the xfce4 panel. That is, is it possible to autohide the panel only when a window is covering it, as is possible with most docks?

I recently installed Deluge 1.2.0 from the following PPA:[URL]I using this on two different Linux computers. One is running Linux Mint 8 and the other is running Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10. The first time on either computer when I enable WebUI in the Deluge GUI it works fine. Rebooting or reinstalling Deluge seems to have no effect.Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

Ubuntu Installation :: Need To Backup Xfce4-panel Config?

Dec 31, 2010

I'm thinking of using a GIT repo to get version 4.7 of xfce4-panel, but I need to know if I need to backup any config files before removing version 4.6 through apt. I have several panel buttons that I don't want input again (could easily take 30+ minutes of clicking).

I do realize that 4.7 will become stable on Jan 16, but that doesn't mean it will be available through apt. If someone knows for sure whether it will be, or how I can find out,

Slackware :: Missing Panel Modules In XFCE4 - 13.37 ?

Jul 16, 2011

Upgraded from 13.1. Certain panel plugins seem to be gone in XFCE4.

When I try to add the Icon Box, Task List or several others to the panel, I get "Could not open 'iconbox' module".

There is an iconbox module in /usr/lib/xfce4/panel-plugins, along with some others, but they all date back to 3/29. In /usr/share/xfce4/panel-plugins, there is a mix of newer and older files.

Did the icon box go away? Do I need to nuke ~/.config/xfce4?

Debian Installation :: Wheezy- No Running Instance Of Xfce4-panel?

May 15, 2011

I posted this same issue in the Xfce support forums this morning. So far, no replies. This morning, using Synaptic, I finally upgraded my main Wheezy Xfce 4.6 computer to Xfce 4.8. There were 225 upgrades, plus 33 new things to be installed. It has been about 2 weeks since I last fully upgraded that system, so I'm sure that not all of today's upgrades were directly related to Xfce 4.8.

I waited to upgrade as long as I did because Wheezy's been getting a steady stream of Xfce 4.8 upgrades for the past several days -- I wanted to wait until that stream stopped, to reduce the chances that I would run into an upgrade problem that was on the verge of being fixed.

The only issue I had was that, in the middle of the configuration step (for lib6, I think), it asked me to either stop or restart xscreensaver before continuing (so that I wouldn't get locked out of the current session), so I completely stopped xscreensaver.

Software :: GTK File Chooser Dialog Box Side Panel Behavior

May 10, 2011

In both Slackware 12.2 (gtk 2.12.12) and Slackware 13.1 (gtk 2.18.9), the left-hand side panel of the GTK file chooser (File Open and Save) dialog box displays three sections. The first section contains two options: Search and Recently Used. The second section contains several options. The third section are personal bookmarks I have created and stored in $HOME/.gtk-bookmarks.

Modifying the bookmarks section is straightforward, but I am searching for ways to modify the first and second sections.

1. In both 12.2 and 13.1, the second section shows the following: $HOME directory, Desktop, File System. In 13.1, several mount points now appear. I think the criterion being used is the mount point being outside the main root tree. Several of these mount points are configured in fstab with the noauto option and are user mounted only as necessary. I do not want any of these volumes appearing in that section nor the Desktop option. Is there a way to exclude those volumes and options?

2. In that same second section are two mounted volumes from a second internal drive. Those two partitions are part of my bookmarks. In 12.2 those two partitions appeared in the bookmarks section. In 13.1 those two bookmarks are ignored and instead appear in the second section. I prefer those two points appear in my bookmarks section because I prefer my own labels rather than mount point names. Is there a way to do that?

3. Is there an option in $HOME/.config/gtk-2.0/filechooser.ini to control the width of the side panel?

Ubuntu :: Different NTFS Volume Behavior In 10.04?

May 17, 2010

Ubuntu 64 bit is installed on the hard disk with two partitions: one for Ubuntu, another is NTFS partition called Shared. Before upgrading to 10.04 Shared volume was available. To mount it, it was necessary to enter the password.After upgrading to 10.04, I see two volumes: Shared and Shared_. Places menu contains Shared item. When I click it, it opens without password, and shows /media/Shared_, with correct contents. Original Shared volume appears in the media directory:

Code:

root@alex-64:/media# ls -l
total 12
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 6 2010-04-21 19:49 cdrom -> cdrom0
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2010-04-21 19:49 cdrom0
drwx------ 2 root root 4096 2010-05-09 08:25 Shared
drwx------ 1 alex alex 4096 2010-05-17 08:56 Shared_

Shared volume is empty. Can this be fixed? It is OK to work with Shared_ volume?

Ubuntu :: Odd Behavior In Lucid After Boot?

Jun 3, 2010

I upgraded to Lucid from Karmic a few weeks ago. The upgrade went fine. Then I decided to move my exit, maximize, and minimize buttons to the right side. I used Ubuntu Tweak to do this. Since that time I have very odd behavior after I boot Lucid.The booted system comes up with an X for a cursor. There are no exit, maximize, and minimize buttons on my window bar. Finally, I can open a terminal, but cannot type anything in it.Sometimes I can get things back to normal by using Ubuntu Tweak to move the buttons to the left or right (depending on where they were before the boot). Sometimes I have to open System>Preferences>Appearance> and change Visual Effects from None to Normal or vice versa.I have tried metacity --replace (after getting the terminal window to allow me to type in data), but after I reboot, things are back the way they were. I have an Nvidia GeForce 7300 LE on board graphics card, and I am using the Nvidia current version driver. When things are working correctly, System Monitor shows a compiz process running but not a metacity process. Is this correct?

Ubuntu :: Install Xfce4-six-day-weatherforecast In Gnome?

Jun 27, 2010

I recently installed XUBUNTU for a friend of mine. When we configured the panel we could specify to see the daily weather (temperature, ...) and also when we hovered with the mouse over the weather-icon an interesting 6-day-weather-forecast was shown. This is the xfce4-weather-plugin.

I tried to install this plugin in Ubuntu but I could not find this plugin (as expected because Ubuntu is a GNOME-desktop) back. Is it possible to activate this interesting plugin in GNOME? This 6-day weather-forecast is really appealing and I wonder why such a nice plugin is only available for a rather "simple" xfce-environment and not for a more "complicated gnome-desktop?

Ubuntu Installation :: Monitor Display Resolution 9.10 X86 Xfce4?

Mar 8, 2010

CHECK OUT THIS THREAD INSTEAD: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...93#post8937093 I got a problem with my xorg.conf file. I'm just not able to add display resolutions. I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 x86 with Xfce4 desktop enivorment. I got an old Nvidia 6600 GT. I'm on a 21" IBM CRT, and i know that it's good for 2048x1536 @ 75hz.

I know that it can handle 30-130 khz Horizontal and 40-170 hz Vertical.

I also know that i would like to be able to use 1600x1200 @ 85hz.

Right now I'm just not able to go past 1024x768 @ 50hz. I've installed the restricted nvidia driver from the popup restricted driver menu, also tried to downgrade to an earlier driver, did'nt work, then i upgraded again to the newest driver that was easily available through Envyng-gtk. Still no more resolution choiches.

sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg just don't work. Nothing happens when i write it in the terminal.

Now i'm starting to get frustrated
