I'm using Ubuntu Lucid Lynx together with Docky 2.0.5
on the internet I've read that there should be a network docklet available for this version of docky however I can't seem to find it, it's not in the list with available docklets other docklets like the mail, trashbin, clock and cpu monitor all show up in the list like they should
I certainly do not want to install Elementary OS, and just want a similar interface. I already installed docky, but Unity gets in the way. Is there a way I can disable that? Also, can I hide the docky application icon on Docky? Or is there a better way to do this?

View 1 Replies View RelatedAnother Ubuntu install, another round of wireless problems. I have a Dell Inspiron 530 Desktop that I used Wubi to install Ubuntu 10.4 on alongside Windows 7 Ultimate. Everything installed perfectly but it's not detecting my wireless network so I therefore have no wireless access. My wireless network icon is gray with a red "!" on it; when I click it I get:

disconnected
Wireless Networks
disconnected
My wireless network does not show up at all; it's not hidden. When I try to enter it manually, I do so and when I click it I immediately get a popup that says
Wireless network
Disconnected - you are now offline.
I only have a wireless connection since the router is in another part of the house, and this is really frustrating me that this stuff doesn't just work on install like OSX and Windows does.
I have just intsalled Gnome3 and GS with the Ricotz ppa. My network manager is showing as invalid, I am still connected to the net but I cant do anything with my network settings.

Im using "alt+f2" the nm-applet to get the NM work but removes after reboot, so i have to do this all time.. uhm, when trying to enable desktop effects is sats "searching for available drivers" and then "Desktop effects could not be enabled". When trying to install apps from Software center, neither of the apps installs, the button install just keep refreshing, but if i go terminal: sudo software-center im able to install everything.

I have a linux maching running Ubuntu 11.04 and have edited the fstab file and been able to map the windows folders for the Drobo and they all mount up fine. On the Linux machine itself can access these folders and run music/video files from them. But when I'm at another computer and SSH into my Ubunutu maching, I can see the mounted folders using the ls command but I can't see the contents of those folders.

I upgraded to Maverick over the weekend from Lucid, and at school yesterday, I could no longer connect to the campus wifi network in my office. I have no problem connecting to the wifi network at home, and my phone still sees and connects to the campus wifi network, so I think the problem is with my laptop (Gateway T-6345u), which doesn't even detect the campus network. As of last week, it connected automatically, and now it can't even see the network.

The only problem I have is that although wired internet connection is working the network manager app shows no connection and the wireless is also not working. I usually monitor machines in the network via ruptime. But one machine (lambda) acts very odd. It never shows up in the output of ruptime, unless ruptime is run from a particular client (delta). For example, say I am logged in lambda. This is what the output of ruptime and few other commands are:

I tried restrting rwhod daemon on lambda, but no change. why lambda is playing this hide and seek with ruptime?
My family uses a computer running Ubuntu 10.04. We each have a separate login. This computer connects to the internet via wifi.
A behaviour which I have noticed is as follows - the first user to log in gets the network manager applet icon. So they can control the network connection. Any other user that subsequently logs in does not.
Now this is a real pain in the butt as sometimes our wifi connection drops and I might have left my wife logged in and used the 'switch user' function to get access to my login. The only way I can access the applet is by switching back to her login.
Is there any way to make this appear in everyone's login's at the same time?
I seem to have a little problem with the Network Manager applet - it works vaguely OK, even if it takes a bit long to find my connection, but when I click on the icon, the menu doesn't show.I have also installed the applet through the Ubuntu Software Centre.Just to clarify, the icon appears fine in my panel, and the notifications appear when I am connected, it's just that the menu doesn't appear at all.

Im sorry to be one of those people who register and there first post is a question, but since fedora 15 is new I couldnt find any information on my issue.
So basically, If I go into Network Settings I have two choices in the left hand tab. Wired, and Network proxy. Yesterday I also had wireless, Since the issue I have updated everything but still have no luck.

Ive been using fedora 11 fora few months now and suddenly today after I booted up fedora network authentication(the little icon that lets me choose wifi networks) isnt showing up in the upper right hand corner which isnt that big of a problem but the fact that its on start up applications and its not wondering is what Im wondering about but on top of that my internet doesnt work at all.It will work for a little bit after boot then die and when I go to network authentication and network manager no wifi networks show up and I have about 5 around my house not including my own which is also what ive been wondering.
View 7 Replies View Relateda Toshiba L650 laptop, and installed F13 x86-64 on a disk partition using install DVD. The wired ethernet on this is Atheros AR8152, and the Wireless is Broadcomm 4313. Both these devices are not supported by default. So, as per instructions on the Linux Wireless site, and some guidance on this forum, have downloaded the Broadcomm driver tar on another machine, copied it onto the Toshiba laptop using a USB device, and then extracted, and ran the b43-fwcutter. The subdirectory /lib/firmware/b43 is created and has approx 3 dozen files. However, the Broadcomm driver is not showing up as an option in the Network Manager (system-config-network) or in the lsmod command output. I tried to manually add it by doing modprobe b43 command - it then begins to appear in the lsmod, but the option to add the Broadcomm wireless driver during a "New wireless Hardware" is not appearing still. I think, at an abstract level, I need to somehow "tell" the system to add the Broadcomm driver - am just not sure how to do so. On the other hand, the Atheros AR8152 has no driver as of now, so the wired Ethernet is also not connecting. how I can download all the required files on a different machine, and then install it on the Toshiba laptop?

View 8 Replies View Relatedusing ndiswrapper for a usbwlan device. Configured and modprobe ndiswrapper confirmed working. When I 'iwlist wlan0 scan'I get cell (wifi network) profiles including my own and several of the neighbours - all showing ssid name and whether key managed or not. When I 'wicd-client' this shows my network as hidden. What makes it even stranger is that wicd-client shows all the neighbours network ssid. Check to see if my router is broadcasting ssid and is without a doubt. I have tried to connect to my router via CLI commands (iwconfig) but unable to connect as is wicd-client - will update with log files on this soon.

I was able to go to command line, and do an "ifup ifcfg-eth0" and DHCP got an address. Go into GNOME - System-Administration - Network , or system-config-network the "Activate/Deactivate" is greyed out. Also, GNOME - System-Administration - Network Device Control show NO device..

I like to try different combinations of *buntu in the several partitions on my first drive. One combo I enjoy playing with is the Minimal CD with Openbox or some other small footprint window manager.I'd like to try Docky, but the need for compositing is a problem for me. I don't want to install Gnome, KDE, or XFCE, because I don't want all the stuff that comes with them.Can you tell me the packages I need to install to get Docky working? Are Compiz and Docky enough?Will Compiz serve as a standalone window manager and automatically start at logon?
