Ubuntu :: Disable Remove From Panel On The Trash?

Aug 24, 2010

I am going through some old baby pictures of my daughter over 15,000+ and she is only 3 years old.....

Here is my problem. I am moving and sorting all of these and tossing some. I have several times right clicked on the trash and by mistake clicked remove from panel. Is there anyway to hide that option for the trash? I know I have done this several times before and now its happening alto with the project I am working on. It would be nice if I could disable that option.

Debian Multimedia :: Disable Gnome But Start Window Manager

Aug 16, 2011

In the murky world of X11, window managers, session managers and desktop environments I cannot seem to figure out how to achieve the following in Squeeze:

1. Leave Gnome installed, but prevent it from launching when typing startx
2. Have both X11 and my prefered default window manager (blackbox) startup when I type startx (or similar)

My ultimate goal is to leave Gnome installed but "dormant" and when I do a remote ssh -X be able to use X11 forwarding with blackbox.

Fedora :: Entering Unicode Characters In Gnome Via Ctrl+Shift+u / No Longer Works

Dec 8, 2009

For some unknown (to me) reason, "Ctrl+Shift+u, <unicode number>" doesn't work in F12. I had gotten quite used to this method in order to input several symbols and if you know what you want, it is a lot faster compared to using the character map. This was working in all recent Fedora versions.Does anyone know how to enable this functionality?

General :: Gnome - Cannot Access Computer Or Trash Locations

Mar 4, 2010

I have built gnome-2.28.1 from scratch (source) with gnome I compiled GDM and many other programs. GDM is starting fine, I can enter my user on the login prompt and login without problems. When I'm in the desktop I can't access the Computer or Trash locations clicking on the icon or even through Nautilus, the same error happening:
Error: Operation not supported.

I tried debugging by hand running the follow command: gvfs-ls trash://
Which tells me exactly Error: Operation not supported.

On my ubuntu system, lsof | grep gvfs returns a lot of gvfsd* daemons, like gvfsd-computer and gvfsd-trash. On my Scratch system lsof | grep gvfs doesn't return anything. My prefix used when building gnome was /opt/gnome and sysconfdir on /etc/gnome/2.28.1. lsof shows me that D-Bus is running, actualy gdm starts gnome with dbus-launch --exit-with-session gnome-session.

And inside my /etc/dbus-1/session-local.conf I have:
Code:
<!DOCTYPE busconfig PUBLIC
"-//freedesktop//DTD D-BUS Bus Configuration 1.0//EN"
"[URL]"> <busconfig>
<!-- Search for .service files in /usr/local -->
<servicedir>/opt/gnome/share/dbus-1/services</servicedir>
</busconfig>

Well, I done many tweaks around and still can't display gvfs location, what I think is very odd is that lsof doesn't returns any gvfsd* daemon running.

When I am in run level 5, I attempt to delete some 'trash' that has accumulated in the 'Trash' icon on my Desktop/.

When I right click the icon and select the 'empty trash' option, I get a permissions error so I just press the 'cancel' option however the contents of the 'Trash' have been purged anyways. It is working basically but I don't understand why I am getting a permissions error.

Debian Hardware :: Move To Udev Affecting Keyboard? Shift Enabled

Jan 30, 2010

Recently I have noticed that at times my keyboard will act as though shift is pressed. That is, letters are capitalized and when i press a key, its shift equivalent is shown. I actually first noticed this behaviour on fedora 12 beta (i believe fedora has been using udev/DeviceKit since F11). At the time of F12 beta I was not aware of fedora using udev. Where can I find a comprehensive guide to setup udev? Or if it all fails, how to re-enable settings in xorg?

Here is what cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep -A 5 -B 5 evdev shows

Fedora :: Disable Knotify / Kdewallet In GNOME?

I like using kopete, but I want to use it in GNOME. When doing so, I have 2 problems:

1) When I login to my computer, kopete starts up, and kde wallet asks fro my password for the wallet, in order for kopete to login to my accounts. This is very annoying. I find it inefficient to have to enter my password twice when turning on my computer.

2) Everytime a buddy signs on/off, a notification (or sometimes numerous notifications) run down the center of my screen and cover all my active windows.I want to disable knotify and kdewallet to alleviate these problems.
