That's it, suddenly I find out that theres no shut down button, any ideas how can I get it back? I'm running ubuntu 10.10 and it happened before the update with lucid, I thought that updating would help but obviously i didn't.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWe are planning the migration fro Karmic to Lucid for our systems, these systems are custom Ubuntu installations, we create them using debootstrap and then running a script that installs desired packages, mainly X server and (optionally) fluxbox.
I've set up a hard drive with our current scripts (the only modifications were the change of lucid instead of karmic for update servers and removing usplash from our scripts), but I've found that pushing the power button would not shut down the system (we have no GDM or similar), the system does not respond to this event as used to do under Karmic.
Do you know where I can check/enable the system to shutdown when pushing the power button?
I have found a bug. Sometimes the shut down and log out menu button is missing from the upper right corner and i have to shut down via terminal or create the shut down button to the panel

The problem I have is (since I've installed Xubuntu) every time I start up my laptop it just hangs with a little flashing white stripe in the top of the left corner (like every start up). Then when I shut down the laptop using the power button and start it up again it works. How can this be possible? On start up, it hangs, while on the restart it always works. Which means I have to restart my laptop every single time.

I have notice the last couple of times I have started my desktop that the Shut Down button is greyed out, the button does not respond when the mouse goes over it nor to being clicked. When this happens I remove the non-functioning button and add it again fresh and the following restart it happens all over again. I added this button manually to a panel by right-clicking on it and selecting "Shut Down" in the first menu that appears.

Now, the back/forward buttons in Firefox have no icons, which means they're hard to find, and they're also much thinner than usual. Also, the home button has disappeared and I can't put it back from the customize menu. I've reinstalled Firefox to no avail.

View 2 Replies View RelatedOne of the major problems I've had after a clean install of Natty is losing my middle touchpad button (just a button, not a scroll, old school T500).
When I plug in a mouse, the middle button on the mouse works fine (firefox links, pasting text, compiz rotation, etc).
I imagine it's something that goes into xorg.conf, no? Either way
I upgraded to F13 this week. And autologin just sits with autologin present, but I have to click the autologin (rather than a user name) and then click again to actually login. That's not so "auto" anymore if I can't push the power button and come back in x minutes with everything and running.
I had this in my /etc/gdm/custom.conf
TimedLoginEnable=true
TimedLogin=marty
TimedLoginDelay=8
What changed and what do I need to do now to get autologin to get off it's ass and log me in?

View 6 Replies View RelatedThere is no clock on my panel after the 11.3 install. I don't get it. I unlock the widgets and there is a digital clock there, but I cannot drag it to the panel, only the desktop. So I suppose there is another way of adding it. The standard clock is not a widget?
View 2 Replies View RelatedOfflate I installed F11 i586 on my laptop. F11 shares the hard disk with Vista Home Premium 32-bit. The problem is that when running F11 (or even Ubuntu), my system shut off suddenly(not a normal OS shut down, but a sudden power off without any warning). This could have been a hardware trouble(heating) but it doesn't happen with Vista.

AMD Turion X2 Dual Core Mobile Processor RM-70
3072 MB 800 MHz SDRAM
I don't want to open up my machine unnecessarily, if it isn't a hardware issue.
I am not sure how to verify the bit length of the machine and the OS and does it create a compatibility issue ?

After doing this, the only way my computer would boot up was if I had the external drive plugged inThen I accidentaly dropped my external drive and broke it. I decided to just install Fedora 11 onto my internal drive primarily because I figured it would would still be able to choose windows from the grub screen, but now there is no option for windows in grub. My other problem is that Fedora wont recognize any liveCDs that have tried to run from other distros (eg. LinuxMint7, Open SUSE)

So I have a intel wifi link 5100 , the drivers should work BUT iwconfig doesn't show my card ..
However doing a ' sudo lshw -C network ' command , it DOES show my wireless card is recognised but not enabled and here is where the problems start ..
