Synaptic acknowledges the package's existence, yet there are no shortcuts on the Desktop or on the system menu. I followed the link to AVG from this Ubuntu.So, perhaps, someone at AVG has some explaining to do on why their free for Linux doesn't seem to work. So I tried accessing the Trash folder using cd. I cd into ~/.local/share then try the following command.cd Trash I get this message. bash: cd: Trash: No such file or directory When I type ls in the share folder I get the following.

So the trash folder is in there but i can't access it. Why? Also I want a computer shortcut in my desktop like in windows where I can access all the folders from.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI currently have an ASUS eebox which is running XBMC Live which includes a stripped down version of Ubuntu. The computer will be used by various people within a teaching environment and I have successfully installed launchers for Openoffice which can be opened within XBMC.
I am trying to the make the experience for the end user as simple as possible as the vast majority will have never used Linux before. I want to get to a point where they can open Openoffice, plug in their USB stick and navigate quickly to their files. At the moment when the program is launched and I try and navigate for a file it automatically starts in the Home Folder of xbmc. So I have navigate up a couple of times, then find the /media directory where the USB stick has been mounted and so on. What I was hoping to do is create a shortcut within the Home Directory which takes you straight to the Media folder where usb is mounted.
I have already attempted and created a folder within the Home directory and called it usbpen.
I have then added the following line into fstab /media /home/xbmc/usbpen none bind 0 0
Now when I reboot the machine and navigate to the home/xbmc/usbpen folder I can see the Drive name of the USB device mounted in /media but I cannot navigate through any of the files, I am greeted with a read error message. So the shortcut is only allowing me to see the device name only.
be aware that due to running XBMC Live I do not have a Windows manager installed and therefore everything must be done through the terminal.

This worked with older versions of Thunar and Firefox, but now that I'm running Xubuntu Natty (Firefox 5 and Thunar 1.2.1) it fails. Depending on the web site I try, it either creates a file containing the page's html instead of creating a .desktop shortcut file, or fails to create any file at all.

Again I do not run a server. etc/host-deny and etc/host-allow contain no active elements. I know tcp wrapper as a great tool to secure a server. Closing the port with ufw gives no result, tcp wrapper still show up.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI made this thread last night~[URL]... Because my Ubuntu failed, and i have no idea why. I hadnt done anything different or risky.. and Ive no idea what to do. So, It appears Im going to have to do a re-install. Which, I really dont mind too much... (especially with Ubuntu) But It will stink if i *again* lose all my bookmarks , and lose track of all my installed programs. The programs, not as much of an issue as the bookmarks in my browser.. I would like to know, If I can somehow access the HDD from the LiveCD, So that I can create just a simple text list of all programs installed on the hdd? I cannot access my HDD except through the LiveCD So is there a way I can do this? Some kind of simple command I can toss into terminal, and have it output me a text file of all programs installed? or something? I really am totally clueless on how I would be able to save my chromium bookmarks.
