I have installed Fedora 13 on my laptop, but there is something wrong with the sound。It just comes from both the computer and the headphone. I have installed alsa, you can see as follows:
My friend has following configuration Pentium 4 2.4 Ghz 256 MB DDR RAM Western Digital WD1600AVJS-63WNA0 hard disk PM8M-VHMS7104 VER 3.0 motherboard The motherboard has Realtek sound card built in but there is no sound output. He is using Ubuntu 9.10.
when my headphones are plugged into my computer, the sound comes from both the speakers AND the headphones. I just want the sound from the headphones if they are plugged in.
I have a problem with my sound card Microphone is working, headphones work but with kind of a low audio output, laptop speakers do not work at all. I have checked alsamixer and pulseaudio nothing is muted, tried all sort of different combinations and pulseaudio actually sees that mplayer for example is playing music, or skype is in videocall and using the sound device, but nothing is coming out of the speakers.

I want to make the audio available only on my headset and to turn the laptop speakers off. In windows, when i plug in the headphones, the speakers automatically turn off and audio is output only on the heads but that's not the case with slackware. I was looking in alsamixer and the audio and video configuration, but no success.
I currently have my desktop setup with two displays, one of them being my living room tv that I run Boxee on. My problem is that all the audio runs through the same speakers preventing me from listening to music or gaming at the same time as when Boxee is in use.
I would like to know if it's possible to split the audio so that an application of my choosing only outputs sound through my headphones. I was thinking it would be possible with some of the controls in pulse, but if it is I cannot figure it out.
Sound comes out of my laptop speakers, but only when hardware is selected as "Analog Stereo". "Digital Stereo" does not function at all. I don't think this is a priority though.
More importantly, my headphones do not have sound unless it is only partway plugged into the headphone jack. However, this does not help as sound is still coming out of my speakers. The instant I plug it all the way in, the sound disappears from both speakers and headphones. I have not tested this with multiple headphones (no access), but these ones work just fine in Windows 7 plugged in all the way.

I am now on a FRESH install of 10.04 Lucid Lynx, so any changes I made in attempt to fix it is gone.
Looking into alsamixer, I found that there is a headphones column, but no bar. It just says it's on. So headphones don't seem to have their own level of volume that's set too low.

My usb sound card has been identified by alsamixer, however it won't make any sound when i put headphones in it. The volume is up, I know the sound card works.
Ever since I installed Debian, when I plug in the headphones the sound goes out through both the headphones and the speakers (they aren't blocked). I don't mind it that much, but could it be potentially damaging to my sound hardware?
I just installed 10.10 and I'm having an issue where sound outputs from the headphones and my speakers simultaneously, and the volume control controls both outputs rather than one of them individually.This has been asked about before at this thread, but none of the solutions I've tried from there have worked. Running 10.10 and win 7 on my HP dv6-2150us laptop and I'm having a few issues.
First how do I get HDMI audio output to my TV? I think I have just a integrated Intel graphics card. It works fine in windows but I can't seem to get it to work in Ubuntu. I tried searching but couldn't find anything pertaining to this issue.
I'm running a Dell inspiron 1501 laptop with a sigmatel stac 9200 sound chipset.
When I had ubuntu 9.04, I had sound no problem and when I upgraded to 9.10 I had sound for a little bit. Now the only way I get sound off my laptop is by plugging in my headphones.

So here's the situation. He plugs his audio jack into his computer and then into the speakers but it still plays from the computer speakers.
I have openSUSE 11.4 KDE version (64-bit) on a desktop PC. My sound card is ASUS Xonar DX 7.1 (PCI-E). I am brand-new to the Linux experience. I get audio out to my speakers which are connected to the jacks of the rear I/O panel of my PC. I do not however get audio out to my headphones which are connected to the jack in the front panel. I know that the headphones work fine because they do so when I boot up in Windows XP. Here is what I discovered so far: KMix does not show that I have a front panel audio channel. But when I run AlsaMixer it does show that I have such channel and, upon manually turning the volume on, I do have sound out to the headphones.
Therefore, I deduct that I have some sort of configuration problem with KMix and would like to fix it as I prefer to use the GUI interface instead of the AlsaMixer one. It's just a matter of preference! I would like to troubleshoot things using the Audio Troubleshooting guide (SDB:Audio troubleshooting - openSUSE) but I notice that openSUSE's version 11.4 is not mentioned in it. Should I follow the instructions for version 11.3 or wait for an updated guide?
The problem is, when I connect the headphones to the from panel audio jack, only right headphone works. Left one has no sound. But if I connect same to the main jack at the back of the machine, everything works fine. Both headphones have sound.
I have just bought a new PC with an ASUS M4A78-AM motherboard with integrated VT1708S 6-channel sound chip in it, so I freshly installed fedora 12 without any issues However, I can't get the surround sound working. I have searched many forums a lot, and haven't found any solution yet.It seems that even the SPDIF output does not work on this sound card, and that is what people talk about on almost every forum / mail list. The motherboard has 3 jacks on it - green for FRONT / 2 speaker set; blue is the line in OR THE REAR-SPEAKER out, and pink is the microphone OR side speaker out in the 6-spk configuration.My speaker configuration is 4.1 [2 front, 2 back and subwoofer]. My wife is reluctant to move from WinXP so I started my own personal campain to promote fedora at home but my wife complains that I "spend too much time fidling with the thing(PC)" and that "it wasn't the case with WinXP" so I =was looking for ways to impress my wife with fedora's capabilities so I flashed her with compiz and dual screen using our old 52" projection tv as a DVR but rhe problem is that my daughter want to watch her DVDs and my wife want to watch a ..... video.I have a system with two Sound card one embedded on the main board and one on a PCI slot and what I am trying to achive is haveing two applications, like two instances of VLC play their sound on the souncard I select per instance, or one Sound card playing VLC and the other playing a ..... video's sound.
I have looked at pulse audio properties and it detects both of my sound cards just fine and it plays wonderfully on either but that is just it... it will pay on either but not both.I have read that you can configure pulse audio to use your second sound card as sorround or duplicate audio but the idea is dicrete audio from dicrete application. Is there such an use case already supported by pulseaudio?So there might be a solution if I disable Pulse Audio but I rather not but I'm open to either.
If I boot CentOS (5, up to date) without my USB headphones are plugged in, all sound output goes to the sound card. But if I have the headphones plugged in when I boot, all output goes to them, and the sound card does not seem to be recognised at all.
Is there any way I can force the sound card to be recognised, and chosen as the default device, when booting with the headphones plugged in? If I have booted with the headphones plugged in, and then I unplug them, go into System|Preferences|Sound, and press the Test button with sound playback set to autodetect, I get a dialog with the message: audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink: Could not open audio device for playback.
Then I started System|Administration|Soundcard detection, and it detected both Intel and Radeon sound cards, but its test button did not produce any sound for either. I moved the Intel device to the top of the list in the Settings tab, and then ran "Reload audio drivers" in the System tab. I got an error message saying I needed to reboot, but I didn't. At this point, the test buttons in the Sound test tab, and in System|Preferences|Sound started working OK. Do I have to go through this rigmarole every time I boot with the headphones plugged in?
Preliminary checks of sound level settings and obvious dumb stuff but there is still no sound. The problem seems to be that the system does not recognize the existence of the sound card and insists on using alternative audio devices.
I'm setting up a new PC and hope to use the Planet CCRMA packages for some simple home recording projects. The PC has a 64-bit processor, so I've installed the x86_64 version of Fedora 10. I've done the basic steps of adding the Planet CCRMA repositories and installed their real time kernel, so I'm think I'm ready to try and get started. First, I need to get my sound cards set up right. I have an M-Audio Delta 1010LT card, which I'd like to use for working with music and the Intel HDA card built in to the motherboard, which I'd be happy to use for things like system notifications and other incidental sounds. The only ones that produce any sounds when I test them are the HDA Analog device and the Delta 1010 device, but the weird thing is that output seems to be coming out of the built-in output jack (on the motherboard) in either case. Does the OS route output from the Delta 1010 through the built-in card to its output jack? Also, I've connected only the first two RCA analog outputs from the Delta 1010 to my desktop speaker system - should I use a different pair of outputs for testing? Playing a CD directly from the CD drive works, but playing music files from Amarok does not. I'll leave it at that for now. I posted the information above to the Planet CCRMA mailing list threee days ago, but I haven't gotten any responses.
With Fedora 15 64 bits, all updates installed, i have no audio with headphones. the audio works fine with laptop speakers, but when headphones jack is inserted the audio continued from the laptop speakers and no from headphones. with older fedora and ubuntu editions there is no problem with headphones audio output.
this is a gateway nv53 laptop.
In ubuntu 11.04 I solved the problem adding two lines in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf: options snd_hda_intel model=laptop options snd-hda-intel position_fix=1 enable=yes
I'm having an issue with my computer and the headphones. When I plug in the headphones into the headphone jack, the sound plays through the headphones but it also plays through the speakers as well at the same time. I've attempted to play around with the sound settings to see if I can get this issue resolved but I have not been able too. Computer specifications are in my signature.
I am currently trying to start doing some screen casting and having a problem with audio recording in gtk-recordmydesktop. The problem is that I need to record both; my computers audio card output, and my mic input at the same time. As of now I am able to record one or the other.

I run a Dell Latitude D520 with an Ubuntu 9.10/Windows XPpro dual boot. My soundcard is a SigmaTel stac9200. Recently,I was experiencing problems with no audio on random start-ups, but after attempts at troubleshooting that problem, I now have absolutely no audio. Could anyone help me troubleshoot this correctly?I feel as though I might do damage to my system if I keep trying solutions from outdated forums. I also don't have an incredible amount of experience with this.Is there a way to just wipe my audio drivers and reinstall them? Also, please understand that I'm a rookie, and I'm sorry if this question has been asked somewhere else before.
A few days ago I setup a pc. It contains an "Intel ICH5" sound card. Before I begin posting all the configuration stuff I've tried so far what the standard procedures are to set it all up for recording the sound card output (with Audacity)?
On my older computer it all worked fine but now I only get silent recordings. However sometimes (when I played on the controls the right way...) I get recordings where you can (amoung some noise) recognize the stuff I actually wanted to record very low... Apart from Audacity I've also tried
Code: arecord -vv -fdat audio.wav which didn't work either. That's why I think the problem is not related to Audacity but to the system.
Is the combination of OpenSuse 11.2 + ALSA + Intel ICH5 commonly known to cause such trouble?
