I was messing around with the alternate character panel app and made a custom character set. I then wanted to put it on a new panel and created a new panel. I moved the character set to that panel, and then started to mess around with the panel settings (auto hide, show hide buttons, and expand, to be specific.) So far so good, until I moved the panel from the right side of the screen to the top. I already had a panel here, and it seemed not to like hiding a panel when there was already one on the top.
When the new panel hid itself, all my panels stopped responding (any clicks on them did nothing) and my processor started going at 100%. I tried a reboot and the only thing that changed is that now I can't even see my panels. I'm guessing I need to change the settings back manually through the prompt, but I don't know how to do that. I am using 10.04 and have not upgraded gnome since upgrading to 10.04.

I've got a 1920x1080 video I've edited and rendered with Cinelerra, and I'm trying to use ffmpeg to transcode it to something smaller. However, when I use a command like this, for instance:
Code:
I inevitably get some weird green band at the bottom of the frame in the converted video. I know that there's some weird pixel stretching going on here, because the NTSC standard for 16:9 is 720x480 with rectangular pixels, and the 1080 version has square pixels, so I'm guessing the green band is an artifact of that process?

I have had this problem with all installations of Maverick Meerkat. Moving the default clock from the upper panel to the lower panel makes it bahave strangely. When clicked on, it now appears in the middle of the screen (sometimes even higher depending on resolution). This never happened prior to Maverick Meerkat.
How do I go about to fix this strange bug?
Attached is a screen shot of what I mean.

Im trying to read a file in c++ and search for particular character for example if this is a list that I have:
Alice
Bob
David
[code]....
if the input is D, it should give David, if its B, gives bob. so in this case, meaning it reads the first character of every line. but if possible I want to make this dynamic so the user can specify which character position he is looking for, so in case he is looking for R as character index 3 in all lines, it should give Charlie. but the problem is, it does now recognize , besides, I do not know how to specify the character position in each line.
here is my code
Code:
#include <iostream>
#include <fstream>
#include <cstring>
[code]....

After installing some Fedora software updates, I can no longer see the header frame in every window. Furthermore, I can't access any window frame after I open a new window frame.
How can I fix this? Can I remove all the updates I recently installed?
Note : After installing these update, when I reboot the system, I can see there are two version of Fedora.

I deleted the bottom panel when I switched to AWN.
If I decide to.... how can I revert/restore to the default gnome desktop? I can add a bottom panel but can't remember what applets go into it.
A friend wants to buy this laptop and may prefer the default, original gnome desktop.

Everything was working fine and on a new session the panel and bottom bar are no longer showing. I am running xubuntu latest version, with compiz fusion and emerald. I always have to reload windows when i start as I have made it default (perhaps thats part of the pb). Just before it disappeared I installed new updates from the automatic updates. i know i can still access pretty much everything from the right click but the pb is that i can only run one application at a time. as i cannot flip between them nor does the cube or alt tab work.

I'm running Ubuntu 10.04, with the default appearance of a top and a bottom panel. You know how window titles appear in the bottom panel, and you can re-maximize minimized windows by clicking on that window title?ell, those window titles are no longer appearing. So when I minimize a window, I don't know how to bring it back.The bottom panel is still there, with the "show desktop" and the trash can icon on it.But no window titles.nd I don't have any idea what I did to make this happen.

My computer freaked out, and started opening new windows in the bottom panel by the thousands. The windows didn't open in the main desktop, but the bottom panel filled up with new window icons and kept filling so fast the whole panel became a slithering, pulsing mass of rapidly opening window icons that compressed to the max to fit in the panel. I opened system monitor and both my CPU cores were at nearly 100%. I ran top anda process called something like "gnome-panel" was at the top of the list with over 50% CPU usage. I ran kill on the PID of that process, and got a bunch of funky popup error messages about the panel reloading (never seen that before), and I was able to finally get the panel to clear out. Now nothing shows up in the bottom panel even when I open a window for Firefox, or open a folder on the desktop. I know there are still open windows, but they don't show up in the bottom panel. Even after restarting the computer nothing shows in the bottom panel. Any ideas on what I killed and how to get the bottom panel back to normal?

Lucid now has a 'feature' of clogging up the bottom panel, showing open programs twice [normal mode, on the left, compact mode on the right], can this be disabled?
I've attached a screenshot of what I mean, in case I'm not completely clear: see the compact open program thingy's right next to the workspace switcher.

I just freshly installed 10.04 (migrated from 9.10), and the first thing I noticed is that in my bottom panel, the applications crashed ("quit unexpectedly") right after the first boot: the workspace switcher simply disappeared when I tried to change its preferences, and "Show Desktop" crashed without me doing anything (I got the little popup window that allowed me to reload or not). Now, I reloaded them and they're there, but none of my open programs appear in the bottom panel.

I'm using Lucid Lynx and need to remove the bottom panel from the GDM login screen. I can remove the panel once logged in but it still appears on the login screen (showing a clock and choices of WMs, etc). I want my end user to see nothing on the login screen but my custom background and the box where he types his username and password.
