Mar 24, 2010I finally have my conky source file just the way I want it, at least for now. When I want to display conky, I open terminal and simply type in conky. Then I can see the actual conky display. But when I close terminal, conky disappears. How can I make it remain visible?

Jun 8, 2010I'm trying to switch from my legacy network configuration scripts (/etc/network/interfaces) to NetworkManager, but I haven't been able to start the nm-applet in Xfce. I'm running 10.04 with the latest updates. I have purged and reinstalled all NetworkManager related packages and still nothing.
If I start nm-applet from a console, I get the following output:

Jun 3, 2011conky draws the root background for sudo transparency, not the desktop image, so solve by using real transparency, but this means any desktop icon blinks or just vanishes, what to do,looked around for a while. but no further along, anyone else had this problem, anyone else solved this problem?

May 20, 2010Ubuntu 10.04 I removed the Me Menu from the panel and then put it back (right click -> Add to Panel -> Indicator Applet Session). The Me Menu came back, but my name is not on the panel. When the Me Menu came back it was just a small blank on the panel next to the Power Button. There was no name, no icon, no nothing to tell me that was the Me Menu. In fact, I only accidentally found it when I happened to click in that blank space. I checked to see if there was any sort of Preferences setting for the Me Menu so I could get it to display my name for me to click on (like it did before), but could not see a setting like that. How can I make the Me Menu to be more visible than just a blank spot on the panel?

Fresh install of 10.04, recommended proprietary nVidia driver installed because text rendering in Firefox is terribly with the 'standard' non-proprietary driver.Also new to Vodafone / Huawei modems. Optimistically, I recently bought a Vodafone K3765 modem as backup for my standard internet connection. I eventually got that to work after installing the USB mode switcher. So no it works out-of-the-box experience here Problem:The network manager (I assume that is what it is called; little antenna with signal strength indicator is not visible in the panel (right top). It is there but it's only one pixel or so wide (at occasion a one pixel wide vertical line occurs at the position where it is supposed to be). So when I want to connect I have to click a number of times in the panel till I hit it and the menu shows. Once it is visible, it will stay visible till the user logs off.

Jul 15, 2010I have had a bit of experience with previous distros but I am pretty much a newbie. So I setup 10.04 but I can't get my net to connect. It's working fine on Win7 (posting from it). It's a dsl connection. I use an ethernet wire to connect to the net.
I opened terminal and used the 'sudo pppoeconf' command and followed the instructions. This is how I used to get my net working on previous distros but it dosen't seem to work in 10.04. The terminal says that my connection is active but it isn't. The network manager icon isn't visible on the top panel.

Ubuntu :: 10.4 Panel Not Visible Across Both Screens In Twin Screen Mode?
May 11, 2010I am using 10.4, and an NVIDIA 5500 video card, two screens....
I have a problem with the Panel, top and bottom. It only shows on the main screen. When I set-up it showed on both, right across, was beautiful. I was quite happy to live with the shrunk down version until I noticed two things:
1. If an app or document is in the second screen (in this case the left) then it does not show up on the panel, until I drag it to the primary (right) screen.
2. Documents open in the secondary screen in full screen mode have a "white out" banner (which I assume is the hidden Panel) across the top and bottom ribbons. This is a BIG problem, because it means there is no access to the Max, Min, Close and drag facilities, and as it is not visible in the Panel that is showing, read 1 above, then it just sits there.

Nov 9, 2010I've installed the Xfce spin of Fedora 14 (64). The Panel (or main task bar) has several icons by default and as most people. I like to add/remove and move the different items and shortcuts. I can add and remove, however moving items I cannot. When I right-click and select 'Move', the Panel turns gray, in fact it's completely grayed out, like locked. For info, it was absolutely fine in F13.

Apr 1, 2010Items in my xfce panel are disappearing. First it was the networkmanager launcher which disappeared in xfce but still appeared when I used GNOME, then it disappeared in GNOME. My "x updates are available" icon and volume control icons are also gone, and just now my entire "applications" drop down menu disappeared. I frequently use xmonad so I know all the /bin/ commands for critical programs, but this is really annoying. Also, my desktop keeps changing back to a certain image without me changing it. If I was on windows I would think I had a virus. Mar 27, 2015I just completed a fresh install of the weekly jessie build (downloaded today). All I've done is install updates, add my username to sudoer list, and reboot. When I did, the xfce panel was not there. When I right clicked, Apps, Panel, it opened with an error that I cannot make changes unless I save my session and that it's in kiosk mode. After a logoff or reboot, it's still not there. I saw one thread asked for the output of /.xsession-errors, which I've done, and it doesn't look good... I'm just not sure how to fix:

May 27, 2011I'm using a very simple conky script to diplay the date and time on my desktop. I've noticed that he conky clock is a few seconds early compared to the time displayed in the right hand side of the top panel (Natty). I guess both displays are based on the same "internal" time, so I'm left wondering how this could happen, and how to sync back the clocks.
It seems that Conky is in sync with the system date, while the panel clock is 2 seconds late (on my system). Checked with while true; do date; sleep 0.1; done
