View 6 RepliesIn Fedora 12, I am trying to use a program that uses uinput to inject mouse events to control X applications. This worked with Fedora 9, but doesn't with Fedora 12. I see the following in my Xorg.0.log:

The device is not a synaptics touchpad, and so the X load of the driver is incorrect. But I don't know how to get X to ignore it's own driver and use evdev. (Or even if that's the right thing.) A general explanation of how hal and evdev are related, for the current X server,
I just upgraded to FC14 (64) from FC13 (32) and the mouse middle button (simultaneous left+right button) paste function has stopped working. I tested it with 3 makes/models of different mice and trackballs. For some reason (left+right) mouse returns the same code as the single right-button ('xev' value = 3). This worked in all previous FC and RH distros I've used in the past. Did a default setting get zonked somewhere? System: Toshiba laptop w/ USB mouse.

The problem that I am having is that the OS will randomly think that I am holding down the left mouse button, which I am clearly not. I only installed the base system (development pack), and did not add any of ther other repositories. I would really like to be able to use Fedora 13, and not just have it sitting there on my HDD, and also use it as a server operating system (because of the configuration tools)

I found the paste function of the center button is really annoying. Usually I use the center button to scroll up and down inside an editor, but when I scroll really fast occasionally I would press down the center button. The editor ended up paste whatever on the clipboard. Is there a way to disable it? I want the center button to function only like a scroll bar, no paste.
View 7 Replies View RelatedIn KDE I'm using KWin as windows manager and somewhere in the configuration I defined that KDE should rotate the desktop cube to the left or the right each time I move my mouse pointer to the far left or right of the screen.If I keep it there for about a second it rotates the desktop cube to the next desktop.I once activated this but find this very frustrating when I'm trying to reach buttons on the same side. So I want to disable this feature but I can't find it anywhere. I can't remember where that option was that activated this feature.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've got a very weird behaviour with my brand-new Slackware64 13.37 KDE 4.5.5 system. I've so far just installed some basic software from sbopkg and the fglrx-driver.
Whenever I pass the red line as seen in the attached snapshot from within the marked area, my mouse pointer gets stuck at the line for roughly one second and then moves on.
Approaching from the outside this does not happen and if I'm staying inside the area, it moves normally as it does at the rest of my desktop.
Turning on/off compositing does not change this, as well as removing the widgets from the panel or locking them. I always get stuck there.
I found out that it has to do with the setting of my external screen via D-Sub. If I switch back to my laptop screen as main, the problem disappears.
I have two monitors set up on my Asus N61J laptop, but have a weird problem:When I move the mouse to right-hand edge of the Left (Primary) screen, it disappears. To get it back, I have to either keep moving it to the next screen, or move it over something that will cause it to change shape.It also happens if I move it to the left-hand edge the Right (Secondary) screen. Anyone have any ideas as to how I can fix this? It's a little annoying, as it makes it hard to select the Logout/Shutdown/Status menu

View 7 Replies View RelatedOpenoffice.org apparently ignores the window manager altogether for questions of focus. This combined with opening lots of little dialogs and menus is making it almost unusable. (Over at openoffice.org, this has been answered with (essentially) "I use click to focus, so raising on focus is normal, so I'm putting at the lowest possible priority because it has nothing to do with usability.") The problem is that I use focus following the mouse, with click to raise. This is very convenient for copying between two windows and saves me a lot of time and energy, as I have to do this quite often. Current behavior, however, causes Openoffice.org to raise any window you happen to pass over, thus hiding the floating toolbar or dialog box that you were trying to click on. Worse, as the window you brushed by has gained focus, in most cases, the toolbar or dialog disappears entirely. The only solution is to move everything around so as to have a path to get to your toolbar/dialog without touching another window, or to minimize all but one openoffice document. Is there anyway to make Openoffice.org usable with this setting?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure what to call the semi-transparent sidebar with a random collection of unconfigurable icons, but I don't think it's working properly.
1. When I move my mouse to the left edge of the screen, it doesn't always appear. Sometimes I have to move my mouse back and forth, back and forth, several times.
2. What it's doing right now is even worse... it appears, but as soon as I move the mouse a *little* bit to the right to actually click an icon, it disappears.
What is causing this? Surely it's a bug? How do I make the sidebar the absolute top priority for the screen edge so that it always catches it and appears? how do I configure it? I can't right-click on the sidebar itself. I can right-click and remove some icons. Other icons, like the grayed-out (but still active) "recent files" thing cannot be removed.
Compiz seems to have had a bug where, upon using Compiz as the window manager, the mouse cursor would refuse to properly change after selecting a new theme. The workaround (altering the index.theme in/usr/share/icons/default) used to be a way around the issue... that is, until the latest Nautilus updates. Now even that won't let the cursor change, and I'm stuck with the issue of a Bluecurve cursor inside applications, but the default dmz-aa cursor on the desktop. Has anyone else found a way around this bug?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've just installed 100+meg of updates and rebooted only to find that when I login the desktop fails to boot. Opening a root-console, I killed Compiz which dropped me back to the login screen where I logged-in again with the desktop starting successfully. From there I disabled Compiz and have no problem starting the desktop now. But that's not really a solution.Even stranger, if I now try logging in with and older kernel version and with Compiz off - if I try enabling Compix now, the desktop just freezes - it also fails to complete loading the desktop. So both the current-kernel/Compiz seem to be linked to the problem in some way!Has anyone else experienced this, and is there a solution? I miss my desktop-effects!
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have Fedora 10 installed. I've just made an update of my system. Things that were updated were a new kernel version with devel and also something with NVIDIA (which is my video card).
After restart of my system, compiz fusion no longer works.
I have a NVIDIA-Linux-x86-177.82-pkg1.run -file to manually install the NVIDIA-driver so the advanced features of Compiz can be utilized.
After install, the bootup screen tells me that loading the NVIDIA driver has failed. I also receive a WARNING-message.
After kernel branch update some times ago i found compiz very slowly, but with older branch compiz was not such slow as today.

I just installed the latest compiz as per leigh's instructions - nice, easy install!I notice that the snow application is missing. That was my favorite, but where has it gone??
How about floating windows above desktop cube? Dodge? In which upon selecting a window, the non-selected windows move around it to move it to the front.I also notice that many window updates are very poor. For example, in the compiz settings manager when I switch tabs, the window does not actually update unless I move it. I click on a tab and it looks just like the previous tab. If I move the mouse around, it will update the wind in blocks under the mouse, but not the whole window.And, it would appear that the standard compiz is still available from my desktop settings in KDE. Could I have failed to remove the original compiz?

Currently, the only way I get it to work is by manually mounting it, i.e.

How can I get this device to auto-mount when a cd is in it? Prior to Fedora 12, I had Ubuntu and it would auto-mount successfully.

This is my Keyboard layout (Norwegian layout on a US keyboard on a HP Mini 1000), but I just can't find the combination to hit when I need to pipe (> <) things.
