I'm now using natty, and Compiz, but if Compiz is enables, I can't move any window. If I try to drag a window with the title bar and my mouse, it has no effect. The cursor won't grab the window.

I created a 2nd login that I set up with Gnome instead of Unity. Unity has a few things that drive me nuts like no notification area among other things. I want to still be able to access Unity to try to get used to it, but will probably use gnome mainly.Anyway, I like using the compiz desktop cube effect (also something I could not do in Unity). When I activated it, all my title bars (the top bar in most all windows) vanished. I have seen this before, but the normal fixes aren't working.
This is one thing that still bugs me about Linux/Ubuntu. A couple clicks and you just hose your desktop/ computer. It is not that easy to screw up a windows machine. It isn't even as if I clicked on something wrong.Is there a something about 11.04 that causes a bigger problem with compiz?
I just got F12 and installed it on a new hard drive on my Dell Inspiron 1501. I have an AMD 64 x2 and an ATI Express 200M video card. I installed CompizConfig setting manager, which did nothing. I then installed Compiz Fusion Icon. This makes compiz work but once I start it all of my windows are missing the title bar. I'm noob and not a programmer but pretty good and figuring things out.In Emerald Theme Manager I can view available themes select them, edit them, etc. There seems to be no way to apply them. Am I missing something or is it just not working?

To do that I have to activate the desktop effects, so I installed drivers for my graphics card which work fine. But I have an infamous issue with my compiz which causes all title bars of windows to disappear. Is there a solution in which I can activate docky and still have my title bars?

However, I went to turn on some compiz effects (to improve the visual ergonomics of my work environment), and now I notice workspaces are acting a bit strange.I can no longer drag a window onto one of the workspace boxes in the bottom right to move the window. Also, if I left click the workspaces pane and go into properties, I can now only change the rows and columns, not the workspace names. This is a bit strange, and I see no reason that enabling compiz should cause this kind of problem.I can right click a title bar and send the window to a different workspace that way, but because they're not named, it's hard for me to organize my desktop this way

Well, I've been using ubuntu for a few months now and i love it. today the mouse cursor turned into a X and the windows doesn't have title bars, i can't swtich between apps using the alt+tab method, the show desktop button doesn't work, cannot minimize applications. long story short, i can't do anything.Wish i could provide anymore clues, but i have no idea how to diagnose.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was trying to install and run Compiz fusion with fedora 12. I downloaded all the packages etc using both the gui and terminal according to some guides. When I click the desktop effects button, it says 3d is not enabled, however the guide I followed said to enter glxgears (or something to that effect) and if it came up with 3d gears then 3d was enabled...I am very confused. There was an application I ran after downloading/installing some packages that caused the screen to go white and I had to reboot. I read in another forum this may have something to do with my drivers...gotta check my graphics card specs, will post when I find them.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWe've all probably had this issue at one time or another.Window borders disappearing when Compiz is enabled. I'm on 10.04 with Intel GMA 4500M graphics. I would say about 30% of the time when I boot up the computer, I have no window borders. I use the Compiz Fusion icon just for this purpose, to reload the window manager and get back the window borders.Of course, the other 70% of the time the computer boots up with normal window borders. Is there a more permanent solution someone can provide than manually reloading the window manager on an as-needed basis?

I did some searching but I'm not even sure what the problem is, or how to diagnose it. I'm running 10.10, now.. any help is appreciated. My graphic card is Intel 82852/82855.And it passes the Ubuntu Desktop Effects requirement. I am aware of enabling the graphic card in Ubuntu 10.10, Since enabling the drivers was successful. I enabled the desktop effects.After i switched to Normal(Graphic Mode)the screen went blank. Then after i clicked ALT+TAB. there is an option to keep this option or not.I clicked Keep this settings. Then i proceeded in Web browsing(because i'm a web addict). Then i click CTRL+ALT+LEFT/RIGHT For the workspaces to switch. Then i found this 4 square transparent with black margin boxes.Which has a weird distorting effect.That effect is going crazy. Then i rebooted(Hoping to fix the problem).Then it is still there.

Really wierd one this, Just installed Sugar Emulator (the laptop per child OS) with intent to start writing stuff for it. It also came with Xesmphy (can't remember how it's spelt) which generates the window.
Since this, everytime I try to click on anything (even after uninstalling both Sugar and Xesmphy) it grabs it and move it, unless I hold down the CTRL key. For some reason, it doesn't have any effect on either of my task bars, only on open windows.
I have an ati 2600 mobile. I am running fedora 10 64 bit. If I have compiz enabled when I resume from suspend I just get a black screen with some garbed colors and I have to hold the power button to shut it off. I have tried turing sync to vblank off. It works fine with no compiz. Is there anyway I can get resume working with compiz enabled?

This means that I get normal open window animation on these pull-down menus instead of the menu-theme. Inside the CompizConfig you can specify exactly which window types the different animations apply to, and you can use "grab" to probe your window for this info. My problem is that I can't "grab" the info for the pull-down, since it leaves "grab" mode once I try to open the menu (and grabs the info for the parent window instead of the menu). How do I get to know the window properties of the pull-downs, so that I can map them to the relevant window animation theme?

doesn't show any new drivers that could be installed. This was working out of the box when I first installed Karmic Koala a few month ago, but things got messed up when I installed the restricted drivers for my ATI card. Now I can enable compiz if I switch to ATI from my bios settings and install the drivers but I don't want to use it due to high power consumption and I've removed the ATI drivers.

Is there some way top stop the "blind effect" of compiz so that when you double click the top title bar of a window that it maximizes the window instead of the rolling up type effect? Also when i place my mouse on the top right of the screen it brings it to a choosing window type mode where you can pick which window you would like to open, is it possible to get this on the top left of the screen instead? Lastly when I use Kdebluetooth4 to send a file to my computer where does that file save to?

View 7 Replies View Relatedafter upgrading from Karmic Koala 9.10 to Lucid Lynx 10.04, i notice something different with title bar on every window opened.
for example:
"Google - Mozilla Firefox" is not at the middle of the window title. and on Lynx it's on the left.
So when I upgraded to Slack64 13.1 on my asus MB homebrewed desktop and Slack 13.1 on my compaq presario a900 laptop, I started having issues with the xterm title (in Terminal--not Konsole) being too dynamic. By "too dynamic" I mean that I can't actually change the title. The dynamic title (from my .bashrc) is basically just pwd. Whenever I try to set the title (via terminal->set title (menu)), I changes it for a split second, and then reverts back to the dynamic title.
This is merely a petty annoyance, so to get around it, I added an xtitle function that I grabed somewhere online (just echos "�33]0;$*�07"). So for nano-ing some file, I'd type:xtitle some_file.txt; nano some_file.txt
That works just fine (kind of annoying to type though). running xtitle alone won't actually change the name either though (I'm pretty sure it's the same command as what terminal does anyway). That is, running: xtitle some_file.txt
changes the title for a split second, and the reverts back to my old pwd.What I really want is to have it dynamically name it "some_file.txt" whenever I use nano, but that appears to be a functionality of zsh (with the preexec() fxn).I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and if you have a fix for it.
When I try to change my mouse cursor theme through gnome-appearance-properties, my cursor only changes to the selected themes in only certain situations, but is the default most of the time. Due to some vision problems, it is hard for me to see the default cursor, and would prefer a size 24 DMZ-Black theme for the pointer.
I've been searching for some solutions, and it looks like Compiz has taken over some duties regarding the mouse cursor and how it looks. That's fine, I love Compiz, I use the screen magnifier and zoom all the time - so turning Compiz off is not an option.
Most solutions I've found call for changing the mouse theme in compiz. However, most of those posts are at least 2 years old, and my current version of ccsm doesn't have an option to change the mouse theme. I found 'cursor_size' and 'cursor_theme' in gconf-editor (apps > compiz > general > allscreens > options), but making those keys match those found in (desktop > gnome > peripherals > mouse) has brought me no success.
I'm using Lucid Lynx with all updated packages, upgraded from Karmic.
how to use the <Super>ButtonX (<Super>Button1 for example for the enabled Compiz Screenshot plugin)? I also notice there is configurable buttons 1 throught 20 under the various options. At first I thought the ButtonX was a mouse button. Maybe it is with some anticipation of there being eventually being a possible 20 buttons on the mouse. I know the Super key is the Key with the Windows logo on it. But I don't know what to do to get the needed Super Key / Button combination. After having enabled Compiz's Screenshot plugin by its default, I don't get an image after hitting any of the Super key and mouse button combinations. I'm running Ubuntu 11.04.

I don't have compiz installed and I don't want it.But I want to be able to switch between applications using the mouse.Expose style would be great but performance is paramount so if they were just icons or something that would be fine. is it possible to use the mouse to trigger alt-tab?(my netbook is often hooked up to my TV so keyboard is not always in reach)In Kubuntu I just had to move the pointer to the top left corner of the screen and an expose style effect would happen. But I believe that was compiz and I have moved to Ubuntu and found it much snappier.
