I'm using the Neutronium Deep Black Gnome theme and when I installed it the input boxes on web pages and the search box in Opera also goes black. I was wondering if there is a way to change the colour of them, i.e. to white, without altering the look of the theme. I've downloaded Ubuntu Tweak but I can't see anything there which would help.

How can I change this so that the text is black as in when typing here for eg? its not the actual setting of the forum as I have looked through it thoroughly.

i did manage to install apt-get and was able to run synaptics ... but now whenever i try to run synaptics it flashes the interface and crashes. i tried apt-get search wget and it says invalid operation search. i tried apt cache wget and get a crash box in the upper right corner... i tried apt-get gtk+extra-2.1.2-4.fc14 and it says invalid operation gtk...
All of which is frustrating my attempts to get the GTK interface to J working. Their script uses WGET which i also cannot get.
I recently got a real fancy unidirectional microphone, but when I go and use it, something strange happens. The mic is a mono mic, but when I record something, it appears to think it's stereo. Instead of having the same thing on both channels, it puts it all in the left channel, and silence on the right channel.
I tried fiddling with alsamixer. In capture (F4), adjusting the "Capture" device has an effect. However, it doesn't do anything useful. Lowering the right channel to zero does nothing, lowering the left channel to zero creates silence, and disabling the right channel creates silence.
In my System>Preferences>Sound (or pavucontrol, or what-have-you), there are "Analog Stereo Input" and "Analog Stereo Duplex" options there, but no "Analog Mono Input" or "Analog Stereo Output + Analog Mono Input" options (the latter being ideal).
Something interesting, though, if I do this:

it works correctly and outputs on both channels. But if I do

arecord -r 96000 -D pulse -c 2 -vv -V stereo /dev/null
then it's back to the same behavior. The VU meter on the second command shows the left channel going up and down as I make noise, but the right one always at zero.
The machine does have a crap internal mic built in to the screen bezel. If I do either of the above commands, they both work correctly. The stereo VU shows the same activity for both channels.
The machine is a Eee 1015PED, which has Intel integrated sound. Something probably insignificant is that the mic has a 1/4 inch mono plug, and to get it to plug into the Eee, I needed to get a 1/4 female to 1/8 male adapter. The mic's 1/4 plug is mono (duh) and therefore two-conductor, but the adapter I got is stereo, or three conductor (L, R, GND). I don't know if this is tripping something in hardware to tell it it's stereo or something.
I tried the mic on my desktop, which has a SB Audigy 4 (the non-pro flavor) and that has the "Analog Mono Input" function, so that works fine. Is there some way to turn this stereo input into mono input?
I am using ubuntu + openbox.Openbox does not use any program to managed the desktop,so I only could see a black screen.What file do i have to edit for change the colour?I don't want to use a program (like nitrogen to select a background image etc).

There was an option in 9.10 in the Sound Options to change the Mic Input into a Line Input. when i first installed 10.04 the colour of the background colour of menu shortcuts was purple. e.g. the highlighted part of the menu you get by right clicking on the desktop was purple. this was with the ambiance theme that is the set default with 10.04.since the last few updates, i realised that this purple colour background has disappeared ! now, the background colour of the highlighted menu is off white which is the default setting of the radiance theme.so what's happening and how do i get the purple colour again ?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI use a custom theme on Gnome. I use "New Wave" controls. Next i customised colours to get the Ubuntu purple, rather than orange. This however does not apply everywhere. If i hover menus, highlight text it's OK. On buttons and other controls it remains orange however.
I tried with gnome colour chooser and it seems to override the text only. How can i get read of this (in my opinion ugly) orange and see my (in my opinion far better ) purple tint on my controls?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running Ubuntu 10.04LTS on two PC's, one PC is running Ubuntu 64-bit, the other is running Ubuntu 32-bit. They are set up on a network to share a HP Colour Laserjet 2600N printer. However, I cannot configure either PC to use the printer. I am using the "HP LIP" toolbox in "System -> Preferences" but every time it detects that it needs a binary driver from HP, it goes to the HP website, where I am prompted to accept a license - then it starts to download the file only to fail. The logic seems to go into a loop at this point and the missing installation file that the system needs simply cannot be downloaded. I've tried looking around the HP website but I cannot find a solution there.

Having a problem with the menu font colour in GTK apps (firefox & thunderbird).
All menus in all other apps have the correct font colour (black) but as you can see in this screenshot the font colour is white for thunderbird.
The only way I can find to change the text to black is to change in Configure Desktop > Appearance > Colours The setting for "selected text" to black.
Now I could be wrong - but I am pretty sure this should not be the setting that effects the menu colour in GTK apps.

Using QTCurve window style Have also set GTK Style and Fonts to use QTcurve and KDE font settings.
I do remember QTCurve in Opensuse had a button to apply its settings to KDE3 & GTK apps but this is not present in the QTCurve version on 11.3
I have KDE in openSUSE 11.3 64 bit and an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4300 Series video card
and these drivers:

I suspect it's caught in low res colour. How do I find what resolution color I'm running, and how do I adjust it if it is low?
I'm using Mozilla Thunderbird 3.0.4 with Ubuntu 10.04 but I find the default highlight colours extremely hard to read when new mail arrives in a folder.
The default colour is grey which is both difficult to read and greyed out items have tended to mean something is not available. How can I can i change the default colour to something much better or am I stuck with extremely poor choice ? Has it something to do with 10.04 .

After a few tries, I managed to install Ubuntu on my 3rd generation Macbook Pro (MacbookPro3,1). I installed the proprietary drivers for the Nvidia graphics card and got all the other features working with the information from this page. However, I am having various problems getting the screens working as I would like. When my laptop is at my desk, it is connected to an external 24-inch monitor via DVI, however I regularly disconnect this screen when I go to uni etc.
Ideally I would like Ubuntu to do the following (all of which I can do in Windows and Mac, or the equivalent thereof): Auto-detect when the external monitor is plugged in, set that monitor as the primary screen (with gnome panel etc). And auto-detect when it is unplugged and set the laptop screen as primary.
Support moving windows between both screens Compiz on both screens Separate colour calibration on each screen So far, I have only been able to get a subset of these working at once. I got 2 working alone, without any compiz and the colour calibration only worked on the laptop screen. I got 3 and 4 working without being able to move windows between screens. I have not been able to get 1 working at all - when I disconnect the monitor, I have to tell the nvidia control panel it is gone.
Is there any way to get all four of these things working? I would be willing to sacrifice 3 if 1, 2, and 4 were all working. (I posted this thread to Apple users as well, but I figure there will be more activity here).
