Ubuntu :: "Background & Text" Colors For Windows, Input Boxes, Selected Items?

Mar 6, 2010

I was recently using Xubuntu for awhile, and I really enjoyed the default color scheme it had, I was wondering if anyone had the colors in HTML that Xubuntu uses?

I'm looking for the "Background & Text" colors for Windows, Input Boxes, Selected Items, & Tooltips and then I was just going to input them under "Customize Themes"

General :: All Text In Text Editor Turned To Boxes?

Jul 17, 2009

I was trying to install GTK+-2.8.20, so I installed it's necessary dependencies in this order:

pkg-config-0.23
glib-2.20.4
pango-1.24.4
jpeg library
tiff library
cairo

And I was about to install the last dependency: ATK (Accessability Toolkit).I opened the Archive Manager to extract the "atk-1.26.0.tar.gz" file (yes, I'm still switching from Windows so I'm fond of GUI), but I noticed all the text in that window was boxes, like the □ type box for every letter of text.So instead I thought it wouldn't be a big deal, because the terminal and regular windows weren't screwed up.I opened a text file in gedit (reference to commands in terminal, such as how to extract files via terminal), but yet again all of the text was □-like boxes.

Ubuntu :: Background Colors In Panel Apps?

Jul 23, 2010

Alright, this has been driving me bonkers for months now and I can't find the answer anywhere. I like the custom theme options with standard gnome just fine, plenty of adjustments that can be made, with only one adjustment missing which would create perfection (at least in my opinion).

How on earth is it possible to change the backgrounds of the "mini-panels" which are always grey by default? No matter which Theme I choose and customize, I can never get the background color of the time/date applet, monitors, evolution, garbage can, and so on to change. I'd like to make all of the backgrounds transparent, not just the main panels that contain the other stuff. Is this even possible, and if so, how?I'm assuming since all of those apps have the same default color that an adjustment "wherever" would then change those default colors on all of the applets (hopefully).

Ubuntu :: Missing Background Colors / Get Those Back?

Nov 29, 2010

I have version 10.10 installed on both a desktop and a laptop. They are both close in how I setup the themes etc. However on the desktop I notice that I am missing some of the background colors on windows and in some websites. It seems to be anything using a blue/gray color. And it is White. It is noticeable on my Firefox on the laptop the borders around everything is gray, but on the desktop these are white. This seems to be not limited to the browser, as I investigated it is on all apps. I have googled this but cannot find a similar situation. I am also new to Ubuntu/Linux, which adds to my dilemma.

Ubuntu :: Screen And Vim (256 Colors) Background Color Rendering?

Feb 18, 2010

I'm using xterm/screen/vim, and set them up to 256 color mode. Everything went well, except when background color for the theme I choose is not black.

Here's the theme I use in this example:[URL].. Here's the situation: as long as I only use vim, the background is well rendered, meaning everything is grey in vim background. But when I try this with screen, the background is back to black, and only the text get some kind of highlight with the background color. Here are the magical lines I added to screenrc:

Code:
term screen-256color
attrcolor b ".I"
# Tell screen how to set colors. AB = background, AF=foreground
termcapinfo xterm 'Co#256:AB=E[48;5;%dm:AF=E[38;5;%dm'
# Erase background with current bg color. Not needed if TERM=screen-256color
defbce "on"

Colors are well rendered in 256 color, I only have a problem with this background. Anyone knows how to 'fix' this?

I'm using the Neutronium Deep Black Gnome theme and when I installed it the input boxes on web pages and the search box in Opera also goes black. I was wondering if there is a way to change the colour of them, i.e. to white, without altering the look of the theme. I've downloaded Ubuntu Tweak but I can't see anything there which would help.

Programming :: Printf() In C Being Able To Specify Foreground / Background Colors?

Nov 21, 2010

I got curious during the construction of my program to search for blocks of text that contain certain words, and wanted to print out blocks of text with the words I was searching for, initially, in ALL CAPS and seperated by tabs for easy identification. That got boring, though, so I thought, "Can printf do colors, too?" Yes it can.... Who knew?

Software :: Can't Set Xterm Background/foreground Colors Properly Using Slackware?

Aug 19, 2009

I've read about this. Everyone says to use ~/.Xresources or ~/.Xdefaults, and it doesn't work for me. It doesn't do anything at all, in fact. I'm trying to use this:

Code:

XTerm*background: black
XTerm*foreground: white

In the ~/.X* files, it won't work. I read that another way of doing it is using

Code:

xrdb -merge .x_settings_file

This will work for me. It's the only thing I can get to work. But when I restart, it will have to be done again. I'm using Slackware 12.2.

Ubuntu :: Crazy Length Text Boxes In Web Browsers?

Jun 16, 2010

did a search and I can't believe I seem to be only person reporting this. It's been a bug since I did a fresh install of 10.04 UNR, but it's only gotten to the tipping point where I actually HAVE to do something about it today. I finally cracked. As you can see in the screen shot attached the one line text box (ie, search bars mostly, but the thread title in this case) stretches way beyond length it is supposed to. For the first screen shot I have "zoomed out" to give a better idea of the full effect, the second screen is what I see during normal browsing. If anyone could help me fix this error it would be greatly appreciated. I've tried both Firefox and Chrome (and Chromium) and the same issue occours. The screen shot is taken from Chrome 5.0.375.70

Red Hat :: Copying Selected Text Using Vi?

Nov 20, 2010

how can i copy and paste selected text from one file to other using vi in RHEL5.i googled and found some methods, like just use m to mark the start, with an arbitrary buffer name (so you might type mx). Move your cursor down to where you want to stop copying, and type y'x (or d'x if you're cutting and pasting). Then move the cursor to the point where you want to paste, and type p. when i do this it pastes the entire line of which a part is selected so in essence it is working as yy. when i open a new file using vi and try to paste it says "nothing in register".what i exactly want to do is copy only the selected text as shown above in red and paste it in a new file.

Ubuntu :: Weak Colors In Text Areas / Fix It?

May 24, 2010

I upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 and now the colors are off. I tried different themes which made some of the tabs more readable, but I don't see how to fix it. Things like background colors in Firefox are too light to see. The same for the grid lines in OpenOffice.org Spreadsheets. Form fields are not outlined. If you don't know where they are you have to hunt by dragging the pointer over the area.
Images look OK.
Does this sound like something others have seen?

I searched online but haven't been able to find anything about this problem. I had tried to install the sun version of Open Office a few months ago, but wasn't able to in the end: [URL] I saw that OpenOffice 3.3 is out, but I would rather not upgrade until Ubuntu puts out the upgrade.

Ubuntu :: Font Colors In Maverick - Invisible Text

Jan 18, 2011

I'm having trouble with font colors in maverick. Some pages with ordinary text do not display properly, i.e. - text is invisible. It highlights a bit when I highlight it with ctrl + a, but that's about it. I've tried editing Firefox fonts (not working), editing system fonts (not working) and disabling compiz special effects (not working). I figured that maybe there's some corruption somewhere as I've installed loads of stuff in the past months and so should reinstall fonts, but couldn't find info on the net on how to achieve this.

Software :: Firefox - Text Boxes Automatically Highlighting Letters

I'm having a strange problem with Firefox. I like to tab through text boxes rather than clicking on each one. Problem is, I don't really know if it has anything to do with the tabbing honestly, but I'll type in the box I'll get one letter than it will highlight it all on its own and then obviously get replaced with the next letter I type. I can type one letter, press the forward arrow and type another letter then it automatically highlights the 2 letters, etc etc. I'm really not even sure how to stop it, I try clicking in the box and they doesn't seem to do anything. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 with firefox 3.6.6.

Software :: Change Highlight Colour Of Selected Text Under Xfce?

Jan 31, 2010

Is it possible to change the highlight colour of selected text when OOo Writer 3.1.1 is running under Xfce 4.6.1?

After using "Find and Replace" to search for and select text, the default pale blue used since 3.1 does not stand out clearly against a white background. This is particularly problematic for short search strings and for search targets found in the Table of Contents (blue text on grey background).

According to Robert Tucker in the OOo Forum thread "On Gnome on Fedora the background of selected text can definitely be changed at System>Preferences>Appearance, Theme Tab, Customize button, Selected items button". I cannot find any equivalent in Xfce; can it be done?

Ubuntu :: Graphics - Change To A Warped Mix Of Colors And Pixels When Change The Background Image

May 19, 2010

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook Remix on my Gateway LT3103u. I noticed shortly into using it that it has a graphics bug every so often. Especially when I change the background image. Everything will change to a warped mix of colors and pixels. Everything is affected. My mouse, the bar at the top of the screen, text and all. My netbook runs on an AMD Athlon 64-bit processor with ATI Radeon X1270 HyperMemory up to 256MB graphics.

So far I have tried reinstalling, and even the 64bit desktop edition which had the same problem. Ive noticed that it freaks out when i scroll too quick, when changing background images, and on certain websites. Then other times its completely random. When it happens it looks similar to these: [URL]

Ubuntu :: Share Files With Windows Boxes?

Mar 5, 2011

I am having trouble sharing files between Ubu and Win boxes. We have seval boxes hooked up to the same router. XP and Vista boxes are part of the same workgroup (lets call it FOO). No domain. It is a simple home network. Each Win box has its own name. Win boxes can see each other (by clicking Network icon from control panel). Shared resources can be accessed by providing user name and password. Now I need to make Maverick box a part of the the same workgroup. All group members should be able to access Maverick's shared recourse by providing user name and password and vice versa.

I installed samba (is that what I need?), but couldn't get things working yet. Official docs aren't very clear. What is the server name and domain? Win boxes don't need any of that. I can just click network icon and go into any computer I want. What are the steps to setup Ubu box similarly? Samba docs say edit smb.conf file. I have 2 in my box :

/usr/share/samba/smb.conf
/etc/samba/smb.conf

Which one is for editing. Where do I put FOO (our work-group name)? How to set permissions?

Ubuntu :: Can't Ping Boxes On Windows Network

Jul 6, 2011

I'm setting up an Ubuntu-based kiosk for my organization, and I can't seem to ping it by its hostname. The network is an Active Directory domain.

I tried editing /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf (I filled in the hostname where it said <hostname>), but no dice.

I also tried editing /etc/network/interfaces (the machine authenticates via DHCP but its network configuration is manually specified -- can't have users messing with NetworkManager):

Code:
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp
hostname <the computer's hostname here>

Finally, I tried joining it to the domain using likewise-open, and while it shows up in Active Directory, I still can't ping it.
