Dont know how to explain this properly but in some forums on the net, no matter what text colour i change its always very light in colour. How can I change this so that the text is black as in when typing here for eg? its not the actual setting of the forum as I have looked through it thoroughly.

Having a problem with the menu font colour in GTK apps (firefox & thunderbird).
All menus in all other apps have the correct font colour (black) but as you can see in this screenshot the font colour is white for thunderbird.
The only way I can find to change the text to black is to change in Configure Desktop > Appearance > Colours The setting for "selected text" to black.
Now I could be wrong - but I am pretty sure this should not be the setting that effects the menu colour in GTK apps.
Here are the colour settings I presently have
how to correct this? Did not have this issue in 11.2
Using QTCurve window style Have also set GTK Style and Fonts to use QTcurve and KDE font settings.
I do remember QTCurve in Opensuse had a button to apply its settings to KDE3 & GTK apps but this is not present in the QTCurve version on 11.3
I'd like to change the font characteristics (size, colour) on initial login screen (list of users) however I cannot find the configuration options.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am running mythbuntu 9.10 with all patches and updates. I open VLC from the menu on the desktop and the font is so small I cannot read the menus. I can read every other menu on all other programs, just not in VLC. Because of this I cannot configure my audio output device. I have gone into Applications -> settings -> Appearance and made sure the font size is set to 11. Is there anything else I can change to be able to read the menus in VLC?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSomehow I manged to mess up my firefox menu fonts.I'm running ubuntu 10.04, updated as of this posting's date. Please see the attached picture of FF (ugly, thin, menu font) alongside OpenOffice (normal menu font) on the same gnome desktop. Interestingly, FF looks little better on the screenshot than it does on my monitor. Something is seriously wrong.
Symptoms:It is only the FF menus that are affected, not the content of the pages that load, or the menu I get when I click on the window title bar (Maximise, Minimise .... Close)
No other applications are affected - all their menus are normal.
No other users are affected - their FF has normal menu fonts. So I am thinking it has to be some file in ~ that is messing this up.
I liked KDE3, but it seems that is history now, and KDE4 is not for me, so I moved to gnome. I am still getting used to it, but it's functional. All was well until I installed the KDE4 desktop, because I thought I'd "give it another try". I logged into KDE4 and ran it under my own username. I managed to open firefox, but that was about it. I logged out because although KDE4 is pretty, it's still useless for my needs. So I went back to gnome, and that's when the problem with FF first appeared. My mouse-pointer cursor has also changed. Instead of a "clockface" spinning when something is waiting, I now have two small circles orbiting an invisible point. No big deal, though it might be relevant.
How can I change the boring grey of the Window tool bar in Ubuntu? I have tried "System>Preferences>Appearances", Compize, Emerald GNOME Colour Chooser and non of them allow me to change the tool bar colour. I have also done many extensive searches on forums, but I cannot find one topic on this adjustment. Lots about fonts, window boarders and so on. I can change everything else but the tool bar colour.

I'm trying to change the colours in emacs ( I could do with a darker background). From what I could find I have to install emacs-goodies-el.noarch, which I have done. However, M-x load-library RET color-theme RET M-x color-theme-select RET then does nothing and I cannot find a way to change the colours.looks like the instructions were wrong, it was the color theme package i need now.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI use a custom theme on Gnome. I use "New Wave" controls. Next i customised colours to get the Ubuntu purple, rather than orange. This however does not apply everywhere. If i hover menus, highlight text it's OK. On buttons and other controls it remains orange however.
I tried with gnome colour chooser and it seems to override the text only. How can i get read of this (in my opinion ugly) orange and see my (in my opinion far better ) purple tint on my controls?

I'm using this theme, /show.p...62&forumpage=5, but by default the panel is white without any gradient (v ugly). View 3 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to change the highlight colour of selected text when OOo Writer 3.1.1 is running under Xfce 4.6.1?
After using "Find and Replace" to search for and select text, the default pale blue used since 3.1 does not stand out clearly against a white background. This is particularly problematic for short search strings and for search targets found in the Table of Contents (blue text on grey background).
According to Robert Tucker in the OOo Forum thread "On Gnome on Fedora the background of selected text can definitely be changed at System>Preferences>Appearance, Theme Tab, Customize button, Selected items button". I cannot find any equivalent in Xfce; can it be done?

How do you get to the place to change the screen resolution through the menus in Fedora 13? When I couldn't find it, I ran gnome-display-properties, changed the resolution, restarted, and when it started back up the resolution was not changed!
What is the recommended way to change the screen resolution?
I'm using Fedora 15, Gnome Shell. Standard window decoration (Adwaita).
Some applications use one set of colors for drop-down menus; other applications use another set of colors.
Nautilus, e.g., uses a white / bright blue combination. Quodlibet and Firefox both use a greyish blue. see attached screenshots.
Are your Gnome applications also doing this sort of thing in Fedora 15 and Gnome Shell?
So I've been trying to find a program to edit grub ,so that I'll be able to add a picture behind the letters add new lines, and change the name of the menus. I know in Backtrack that I used a program,I don't really remember which one it was,I think KGrubEditor, but that is a KDE app,and I cannot find a place where I could download it anyway. Do you guys know any alternative,or any way I could do this? I know how to edit grub.cfg, but I want some features besides that.

View 3 Replies View RelatedNot the gnome-terminal fonts... That's easy... How about the font faces on tty1-6? I tried Slackware once... It was way back in my Linux experience so it struck to me as a clumsy and ill-managed operating system despite that the fact is the exact opposite... Well, as it appears, Slackware did have something about changing the console font since it mostly focused on terminal, you know, it booted up in terminal by default, for starters. Anyway, since Ubuntu is Linux as well, I guess there must be some way of changing the font face for the terminals, eh?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have the bug with the nvidia drivers breaking the theme in 10.10. Solved it as described here: I had the same problem with GTK theme: for some reason it defaults to "Raleigh" (instead of "Ambiance") with nvidia drivers. I fixed it by adding the following in my .gtkrc-2.0 :
Code:
include "/usr/share/themes/Ambiance/gtk-2.0/gtkrc"
And if you want proper icons with it then also add:
Code:
gtk-icon-theme-name = "ubuntu-mono-dark"
Now I have the beautiful theme back for my own user account, but the font is wrong. How do I set the font to the Maverick default (and BTW, how is this font called?)? And where can I learn more about the syntax of the .gtkrc-2.0 file?
I'm using the Divergence theme, and I'm loving the transparent top panel. However, the font is dark, so I can't see anything! How can I change the font so it's white, but without changing other system fonts?
