Ubuntu :: Chromium "show In Folder" And Downloads In Lubuntu

So I recently installed Lubuntu on my netbook and I have it all working except for one hitch - when I download something in Chromium (such as a .deb or a .odt file) when I click on the finished download in the bar at the bottom of Chromium it does not open the file in gdebi/abiword as it should. Also when I right click on a file and select "show in folder" it does not work...
Not sure if this is an issue with Chromium or LXDE/PCMan but I figured it couldn't hurt to post here asking about it.

The damn thing keeps freezing my screen every time I open a new tab because google is more worried about spying on people than making their browser work correctly with flash crap. Who the hell is the retard ass idiot who had to put Chromium as the browser on lubuntu 10.10 anyways?? I've gone over all the steps outlined in every single tutorial I could find online and I don't have any clue where the hell I'm at now....
Still can't get FF4 to even install or load up or anything. No clue how to get rid of this evil Chromium garbage. And I'm getting really pissed and about to take a sledge hammer to the god damn computer! Must have all been designed by arrogant greedy Americans. Matter of fact, forget this.. I'm just going to wipe my HDD... AGAIN and switch to OpenSuse.

When I'm running without a desktop environment, whenever I click a download in Chromium to open it it downloads another copy instead of opening it in an appropriate program! How do I stop this? Also, what if I just want to view a PDF and not download it to my home dir?

All of my folder icons changed to the Downloads icon, even new folders have the wrong default.Anyone know how to fix this? The places icons I had to change manually

I'm Running Lubuntu 10.04 on an old P3 PC Every time i want to log in i have to type the user-name and password. Is there any way Lubuntu can show the user-name to the login screen so that when i reach the login screen i see the usernames an i just click on the user-name enter the password and login ? s that achievable in Lubuntu 10.04 ?

Just built myself an HTPC from scratch and installed Ubuntu 10.10 on it (using XBMC for now). I'm familiar with Linux and have been dabbling with it for many years but in the end my main computer runs OS X.Trying to modify a script I found elsewhere that will auatomagically rename and move downloaded TV shows into a preexisting file hierarchal system. I have an automator function on my Mac that was put together for PLEX but it will obviously not run in Ubuntu.Here's what I've got so far. Remind you I'm not much of a programmer:

If I download a .deb file then when I run dpkg all files install in the correct directories.But with a tar.bz2 file when I run tar xvjf it installs in its current directory. How can I make a tar.bz2 file install into the appropriate directory?

I have been unable to open my Downloads folder for 2 days now. I've tried everything. I can get into every other folder on my machine though. I also have 103GB free space on my machine. Is there perhaps a limit on the amount of data I can have per folder? I'm running 64bit Ubuntu.

There is some issue with the latest version of LinuxDC++ (version: 1.2.0~pre1~bzr Core version: 0.75). I have upgraded to the latest version a few days back from launchpad repos due to the frequent crashes and system hang-ups. My complete and incomplete downloads folder are same. While my download was going on, LinuxDC++ deleted all the files from the downloads folder.
After about half an hour of tweaking, I updated my database using updatedb, and found my files in ~/.dc++/Filelists/anantwqqwe.BMIU2NFCFXB7ERTSG62PRSQPRJIN63A56EEGO6Q . What does that supposed to mean and why its doing this way? This is the second time this has happened to me, the last time I was unable to locate the deleted files on my system and I suppose they were not there. I use 64-bit Ubuntu 10.10(maverick).

I then installed Chromium OS on my EeePC 1000HE with internet through a wired connection. All was great until I unplugged and realized that the wireless did not work. I have spent more hours than I am willing to admit at this point trying to get it to work. I found the drivers and firmware but would get messed up in the process with my little knowledge with installing them.I then installed Ubuntu on my netbook and the wireless worked just fine right after install. So now, I have a working copy of Ubuntu on one SD card and a copy of Chromium on another SD card without wireless capability.
My question:
Is there a way that I can copy the drivers and firmware folder from Ubuntu and put it into Chromium? I am familiar with navigating around at command prompt and mounting the USB drive that I would like to have the drivers and firmware folders copied to.I believe I know the location of both drivers and firmware, but since I am so new to this.Once those folders are copied into place, do I need to do anything else to get them to work?

Losing my car keys is something I have learned to live with, but now my Downloads folder has vanished. I'm sure I left it in the usual place, but it's nowhere to be found.
how to reinstate it. I assume it's not as easy as just creating a new folder in my Home folder called "Downloads", is it ?

When I right-click on a file in my firefox downloads window and choose "open containing folder", it opens the folder in EasyTag. I tried both of the below "solutions" and logged out and logged back in to openSUSE and it still uses EasyTag! Is it because I need a restart or is it something else?

I often use the option in Chromium to create 'application shortcuts'. These are instances of Chromium that make a website look more like an app by not including most of Chromium's toolbars. I use it for gmail and google docs and spreadsheets and calendar. In 11.04 I have set up Desktop launchers and copied them across to the Launcher (what an odd way to add something to the launcher, why no right-click 'add launcher' option?)
The problem is that the launcher thinks all these apps are chromium (which they are really, but I would like them to be seen as separate apps). If I minimize my gmail window, a little triangle appears next to the chromium icon, not the gmail icon. To get the window back, I have to click on the Chromium icon. Clicking on the gmail icon launches a new instance of it (also tied to the Chromium icon).

if i run chromium with --enable-gpu-rendering flag chromium's display looks like it's shattered into thousands of pieces and I can't understand a thing. This doesn't happens if I have a previous instance of chromium opened in the usual way, without any flag. In this case if I open another chromium window with the --enable-gpu-rendering flag it's display looks ok, but I can't figure out what's the problem and how could this be fixed if there's solution for it of course.

I would like to configure my desktop so that I have taskbars on the bottom and sides. No problem. However I also want to put folders on these taskbars where the NAME of the folder is shown with the folder icon and not just when the mouse hovers over it. In other words, I want to be able to determine what the folder is just by looking at it. I like the way the program icons clearly show what the application is on the taskbar launch bars but how to achieve this for folders also ?

I made a shortcut with chromium browser to listen.grooveshark.com. This is great as it's almost like the grooveshark VIP desktop application like this. However AWN dock groups it with other chromium windows like this:Kuvakaappaus.jpg
Is it possible to force AWN to group this specific chromium window under the Grooveshark launcher that I have in the dock? Turning off grouping does not solve this either, as it just shows grooveshark as another chromium window.

I have roughly 5Tb of movies spread out on 6 drives in my system. I'd like to create a folder that will display the contents of certain folders without actually moving the data. For example, I have 3 drives with /HDMovies and 3 with /SDMovies. How do I create two new folders /HDMovies and /SDMovies and have the data from the drives be collected?

Yesterday after downloading a file I tried to find it on the desktop where downloaded files are saved. It does not appear in nautilus but when I look for it from command line it appears to be there. I simply do 'ls' for this and that means its not hidden.Googled it for an hour to find a suitable answer but most of the posts focus on removing the in front of file name which is not the case here.

I know these folders each have >80gb of files. Yet, they only show 4.0K in ls -lah? How can I have ls show size including the contents?

I have many folders with many subfolders. All I want it to get the folder name and the first subfolder. I tried using ls -R but this give me more than I want it. Let say I have:
