Ubuntu :: Change The Name Of Menu?

Jul 24, 2010

I'd just like to ask you and see if there was a way to change the name of the menu. I'd like to change the word "Applications" to "Apps" since it'd take less space and I would have room for more windows since I've them all in the top panel.

If it's possible to change it from Applications to Apps. I tried using the Main Menu software but it only seem to work with the sub menus/applications.

Ubuntu :: Not Possible To Right-click On Another Part Of Menu Bar To Change Menu Properties

Jul 2, 2010

I'm brand new to Linux and Ubunto 10.04.On the menu bar at the top of my desktop I seem to have attracted some kind of bug!The Log Out Symbol repeats itself across almost the entire menu bar and I cannot remove it. If I remove other buttons from the menu the space is immediately replaced by more Log Out Buttons. When I hover on the icon I get the message 'Log out of this session to log in as a different user' and when I right-cllick to click on 'Remove from Panel' or 'Move' nothing happens. It is not possible to right-click on another part of the menu bar to change the Menu Properties.

Ubuntu :: How To Change K-Menu Key

Jun 23, 2010

I'm running Ubuntu 10.4 with KDE. I have a keyboard with two Windows keys. Now, in a perfect world I would map the left Windows key to the K-Menu and the right one to that run-panel (or whatever it's called).I switched to Linux a few weeks ago, mainly because it seems like a lot of at least near-perfect things are possible on it. So far I've managed to remap my Windows keys to F13 (left) and F14 (right). But how do I bind them to the K-Menu and that little run-panel (the one you open with <Alt>F2) respectively?

Either way; I would love some help on this, as this will bring me one step closer to: world domination / creating a theme, how different are they really?

Ubuntu :: 9.10 - How To Change Single Menu Icon

Feb 2, 2010

I'm slightly puzzled trying to change the icon on my single "gnome main menu" button. I've added it to a panel and gone to gconf-editor aps>panel and there is no objects folder on my home pc (which is a installed version of 9.10). In work I do the same steps on an install of 8.04 and it works fine. The only difference I can think of is on 8.04. I add the menu to the bottom panel that ubuntu has by default and at home its a panel I've added. I cant get a custom icon for my main menu in 9.10!

Ubuntu :: Which Command Runs When Change Something In A GUI Menu

May 13, 2011

I explain in with an example:

Imagine you want to know which command is carried out when, after executing gnome-mouse-properties, you go to the Touchpad tab and click on "Enable mouse clicks with touchpad".

Another example:

Imagine you want to know the command that is executed when, after running gnome-appearance-properties, you go to the "Visual Effects" tab and click on None.

I've had a look via gnome-system-log in all the log files of the left with no success. Perhaps the commands that run when one changes things in the GUI menus are logged in some other file. Or perhaps they are not stored in any log. In this case there is probably some terminal command to know it, or some program for this.

I think that know that no xorg.conf is used by default this is something to have into account.

Ubuntu :: Cannot Change Menu Icon Next To Apps Tab In Certain Themes

May 10, 2010

I have become very restless and irritated while trying to change the icon next to the applications tab on my top panel (I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Desktop). I've tried multiple methods and have had no luck. I've used the Ubuntu Tweak option for changing the icon. It didn't work. I've attempted taking my custom one and changing it in the directory itself but I can't figure out how to change the permissions to allow me to do this.

I've used the terminal to replace the icons but once again I was not given permission. I've spent hours trying and trying to get this to work and I'm stumped. Now to note the problem of this only being for a certain theme. I changed the theme from my custom theme (the one I want to change that icon for) to the Ambiance theme. I opened up Ubuntu Tweak and tried using the simple icon changer button...it worked. I had just d/led updates for it so I switched back to my custom theme to try it and nothing.

Extra:
The custom theme I'm using is this
Controls: snow-leopard-mac (i don't remember where i d/led this)
Colors: N/A
Window Border: Mac4Lin_GTK_Aqua_v1.0
Icons: Mac4Lin_Icons_v1.0
Pointer: Default

Ubuntu Installation :: Change Order Of Boot Menu?

Nov 29, 2010

Using StartupManager (as Quackers had suggested) I do indeed have Windows as my default boot, although it appears at the bottom of the menu. See Dilemma 1 below for that detail.

Dilemma 1:Grub2 has set up the boot menu so that Windows is the last item on the menu. This is because the Menuitem entries for the Ubuntu kernels are generated by script 10_linux, while the Windows Menuitem entry is generated by script 30_os-prober. Of course, in generating /boot/grub/grub.cfg, the 10_linux script is executed before 30_os-prober, dictating the order of their appearance on the menu.

I'd like to see Windows as the top menu item. Under grub, I would edit /boot/grub/menu.lst, pull the Windows menu item out of the "Automagical" section and voila! It stays on top no matter how many times I upgrade the kernel. While I could possibly do the same with /boot/grub/grub.cfg (see thread "how can I change the order of the boot menu?" for the suggestion) we should all know by now that the next time I update the kernel, my changes will all go away, because we are not supposed to edit that file by hand.

Dilemma 2: As I download and install kernel updates, all the old kernels still show up on my boot menu. My concern is that eventually the sheer number of Linux kernels will render the boot menu unreadable. This is especially of concern if I cannot get Windows to the top of the boot menu. Under grub, I used to edit the menu.lst and comment out the listing of any kernels more than 2 versions old. Now, how do I arrange this omission? A manual edit of 10_linux will be acceptable, provided it still displays the 2 or 3 most recent Linux kernels and their corresponding memtests.
