Ubuntu :: Change Fonts In NAUTILUS Without Affecting Other Apps / Desktop?

Jul 2, 2010

I am having one problem though; In changing the Applications font in Appearance preferences, it changes the font used in Nautilus, which i do not want, as the font I am using does not have capitals. I only want the font on my panel Menus and/or Desktop, but not in Nautilus.

So what I want to know is this: can I set the font individually for Nautilus (or any app, for that matter)? If not, can I set the Applications font to the one I want for Nautilus, and then set an individual font for my panel Menu headings/Menus?

Debian Multimedia :: Change Desktop Fonts Color

Apr 21, 2015

poking around in the system settings nor Google are cooperating, so: How do I change the colour of the font on my desktop? I'm running Cinnamon (on Sid) and I've got a background with a lot of black in it, which makes the names of icons impossible to read. I know what everything is, of course, but I'd still like to be able to see what it is.

General :: Change FAT32 Into NTFS From Win 7 Without Affecting Boot Menu?

Jan 29, 2010

Since last last week i've installed Windows 7 and OpenSuSe 11.2 linux several time in my laptop. Each time i do something and Linux boot menu disappears and i again install both operating system. I have installed linux for the first time 6 days before in my life.

I am trying to live without windows. I know i can't for more few months as there is problem in every step for me.

Now i have both os running perfectly and boot menu appearing perfectly.

There are 3 partitions in FAT32 created while installing linux for Windows files. Now i want to change it in to NTFS. All drive are empty.

##1 Is it ok if i reformat it in windows 7 and change to NTFS?

##2 Does it creates problem in GRUB boot menu?

##3 Is there any way to do this from Linux without any problem?

##4 Is there any way to change FAT32 into NTFS without affecting GRUB?

I'm tired by installing again and again. I don't want any more trouble for next 1 month.

Debian Configuration :: 32 Bit Apps On Wine Cannot See System Fonts

Oct 23, 2015

I've just installed Debian 8.2 KDE 64bit, installed wine, and found that a 32-bit Windows program (Agent newsreader) could not see the linux system fonts. (This worked fine on Kubuntu 14.04)

Since this is the first time that I've installed Debian, I'm not sure if I'm missing something obvious or if this is an actual bug.

Steps to reproduce:
Fresh install of Debian 8.2 KDE 64bit.
apt-get install wine
wine wordpad # this is a small word-processor for wine that is supplied with wine
menu -> format -> font
all linux fonts are visible -- so far so good

Because I want to use a 32bit program, I now have to do this, I understand:
dpkg --add-architecture i386
apt-get update
apt-get install wine-bin:i386

But after that,if I run "wine wordpad" and look at the fonts, all the linux system fonts are gone. The only fonts visible are the nine that are built into wine (Courier, Fixedsys, Marlett etc..) So installing the i386 wine support seems to have broken something.

OpenSUSE :: Installing Fonts In Gnome Desktop?

Feb 18, 2010

opensuse v11.2 The Gnome help describes how to install fonts: copy the font files to </usr/share/fonts>. I have some Type1 fonts with PFB, PFM, AFM and sometimes INF face files. The only ones I see in the <Type1> directory are AFM and PFA. Which font files does Gnome actually require? Is a PFA needed? Are the font files moved/deleted from </usr/share/fonts/> after installation? Is there a more obvious way to install fonts in Gnome?

OpenSUSE :: Distorted Fonts With Desktop Effects?

Apr 11, 2011

I'm getting this weird behavior when I have Desktop Effects enabled. When it is on, it's like there are two or three vertical and horizontal lines running across my screen that distort any of certain font characters that are under them. In some cases these characters are trimmed slightly, in others they have an odd skew to them, and in still others the letters are completely removed/missing/invisible. With Desktop Effects disabled, everything appears as normal. I have attached a screenshot in which you can see there are at least three letters missing from the left side (Desktop Effects enabled) and not from the right side (Desktop Effects disabled). There is a missing 'l,' a trimmed 't,' and a distorted 'p.' I'm on a one-week-old 11.4 install with nVidia drivers installed from that repo.

As far as I can tell, Desktop Effects works with few other issues, although there are some aggravating ones (having to click task tray items multiple times to get a response, multiple windows highlighted in the menu bar as though they all had focus, etc) that I will look into once I get this one key issue taken care of.If any other diagnostic information might be useful, please let me know and I will provide ASAP.

Ubuntu :: Apps Capturing All Keystrokes / Change This?

May 14, 2010

So I've noticed that some applications block keystrokes and input from reaching Ubuntu. Most recently I got the Linux version of Unreal Tournament 2004 running. Problem is that when I'm playing Unreal it captures all input, so when I decide the game is too loud or too quiet, rolling my volume wheel doesn't adjust the volume. I either have to pause the game so it releases my mouse(only in windowed mode), or exit altogether, adjust the volume, and restart the game. Is there a way to change this?

Ubuntu :: Desktop Effects Being Shut Off By Other Apps?

Oct 15, 2010

I have recently switched to Kubuntu 10.10 maverick on my laptop. Almost every time that I start my laptop up now, the screens and the start bar are very plain looking. When I go to my desktop effects, it says that they have been stopped or shut down by another program. so, I use alt+shift+f12 to turn them back on. Sometimes they turn back on and stay on, other times they will shut right back off and say that another application has shut them off. So, I'm just wondering if this is a known bug and if so, how do you fix this?

On a side note, I've noticed that be web browsers are kind of glitchey on kubuntu 10.10. For instance, whenever I am on a site where there is a text box that I need to type into, it sometimes doesn't load and when it does, it will mess up throughout the time i'm typing. So,
