Ubuntu :: Canon Wireless Drivers / How To Load?
Jan 14, 2011
I'm brand new to Ubuntu and have a MX860 wireless printer.I want to use it from the Ubuntu system. The printer is already on line and functional wirelessly.I downloaded the drivers but it is unclear how to load.I expected to click on something to load but there are a whole bunch of files enclosed.Clicking the install.sh file makes the screen blink but that is about it.A screen print of the main files is attached.

Bought a Canon all-in-one (printer, copier, scanner) today, which prints beautifully on XP & connects to our WiFi without problem. Only downside, is it can't find a driver for Linux. Anyone out there using this printer under Linux, or any pointers to the right driver?

My first day as Ubuntu 9.10 user. Downloaded drivers from Canon Europe and installed .deb package using G and all seemed ok but no actual printing occurs. System says all installed ok and indicates printing occurring but no physical printing happens. Checked printer on another PC and all ok.

My purpose is to be able to use Canon printers with my debian jessie system (installed via netinst iso).
I have read this wiki page but unfortunately it is a little old. I still have followed/adapted the instructions there but it fails on my system on step 6. I will explain below.
Latest Canon drivers in the official website is v3.10. US version of it can be obtained from here.
When I try to install .deb package in the driver file archive I get following output:
Code: Select allsudo dpkg -i cndrvcups-ufr2-us_3.00-1_amd64.deb
[sudo] password for ert:
Selecting previously unselected package cndrvcups-ufr2-us.
(Reading database ... 155527 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to unpack cndrvcups-ufr2-us_3.00-1_amd64.deb ...
Unpacking cndrvcups-ufr2-us (3.00-1) ...
[Code] ....
And the next thing I tried:
Code: Select allsudo apt-get install cndrvcups-common
[sudo] password for ert:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package cndrvcups-common is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source. However the following packages replace it:
cndrvcups-ufr2-uk cndrvcups-ufr2-us
E: Package 'cndrvcups-common' has no installation candidate
I cannot solve this package error.

I recently installed openSUSE 11.2 on a computer with a Canon i860 printer attached to it. Previously this computer had Ubuntu 9.10 installed on it. When Ubuntu was installed on it, the computer found and printed on the Canon i860 printer just fine. When I installed openSUSE, the list of Canon drivers did *not* include the Canon i860. Just for giggles I selected Canon BJC 4000.
It prints, but it "misbehaves" - For example, if I want to print a document that says only "Hello world", it will print it, but it prints it about 20 times on one sheet. I figure this insanity is caused by the improper driver I selected. I'm not expert enough to know how to get this printer working. And - why would it work okay in Ubuntu 9.10, but not openSUSE 11.2? Did I do something wrong while installing openSUSE?

I've installed Ubuntu Netbook 10.04 on my HP DV2000 laptop and now I want to get my wireless to work by installing the proprietary broadcom drivers (4311, I think). But my internet doesn't work yet obviously, so I need to download the drivers to my thumb drive on my desktop and install them on my non-networked laptop. My issue is that I don't know:a) Where to get the driversb) How to install them from a local drive

I've done a ton of searching and all I've found seems geared to having your printer/scanner connected via USB cable in order to get the scanner working. I have the printer working wirelessly but thus far no go on the scanner. I've downloaded and installed the scangearmp packages.
I've tried installing the sane package via git according to this blog but when I try to run configure I see this: mustek_usb2 backend requires pthread library - disabling and usb isn't listed among the installed backends. I don't even know whether I need usb because this is wireless, but after compiling I run scanimage -L and nothing comes up. I'm still a Linux newb, and have learned a ton in the past couple of days, but this one is stumping me.

I am trying to get Canon MP250 printer and scanner working in OpenSUSE 11.3 and so far I've had limited success. Both components work up to a point, but aren't fully operational.First of all, I installed the drivers from Canon website for both parts of the multifunctional device. Here's the report on the versions (it's localised, but it shouldn't be hard to understand ).
The printer works for the most part. But it fails to set images to greyscale when I request the driver to. There are some guides about that for Ubuntu, but none for openSUSE that I could find. Also, what does the setting "Amount of Extension" in the printer options do?It would also be nice if I could set the printing quality as well. Right now it seems to print everything with the default quality setting, but personally I like using lower print quality since that saves ink and makes it a little faster.
The scanner, however, is hardly usable at all. If I try to use Canon's ScanGear MP to scan, I can hear that it operates the scanner, but the program itself freezes and after a while gives me the "Cannot communicate with scanner" error. On certain settings I can also hear that the scanner itself doesn't complete the scan (the indicator on it also reports an operation in progress, but it never gets completed). If I try to use Acquire images, the native KDE scanner application, I can get it to scan, but only on very specific settings: it must scan it in colour and the resolution must be equal to or over 300 dpi. If I try anything else, the resulting image file is completely blank or I get an "Error during device I/O". And, of course, it can't save PDF files.

I've been running Xubuntu 9.04 for the past couple of months but have difficulty installing my Canon MX-860 wireless printer. Everything else works perfectly and connects wirelessly to internet. Since I run a couple of other Win based computers, printing from the Toshiba 1100 laptop hasn't been a problem. It would be an advantage. I tried to install the latest Xubuntu distro on the Toshiba and it installed but could not connect to the wireless Atheros card. Where should I start? get Distro 10.04 working first or try and install the printer with the existing distro?

I have Canon MX860 Multifunction USB/Wireless printer that I am trying to add in Fedora 13. Looking under Desktop > Computer via USB connection, the printer is detected as some hardware device I can mount and unmount. However, when I am trying to add this printer via System > Administration > Printing, the printer is not detected at all nor can I add. FYI, this printer works fine in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. How I can make this printer working in Fedora 13?

I recently reformatted and dual partitioned to both Windows 7 as well as ubuntu 10.10. Loading works fine and Windows 7 is 100% operational. I cannot seem to get my wireless network adapter to be read by Ubuntus 'Windows Wireless Drivers' gui. Here are the steps that I have done THUS far, to make sure that we are all on the right path. Before I go any further, my wireless network adapter is an old school WUSB11 Linksys Wireless Network Adapter (running version 2.6).
1) Downloaded and installed "ndiswrapper" from ubuntu's main website. I downloaded the common, utils and ndisgtk files and installed them accordingly.
2) I extracted these three files to the desktop of Ubuntu and accessed the terminal page.
3) From terminal I typed "cd Desktop" to change the directory to the desktop.
4) Next, I typed in "Sudo dpkg -i ndiswrapper-common_1.54-2ubuntu1_all.deb
Sudo dpkg -i ndiswrapper-utils-1.9_1.54-2ubuntu1_i386.deb
Sudo dpkg -i ndisgtk_0.8.5-1_i386.deb"
5) This installed Windows Wireless Drivers gui successfully and I can access it.
6) I have downloaded the driver files for the adapter from the cisco website and searched them for the required files needed.
7) After extracting the .INF file from the "Drivers" directory named "NETUSB.SYS" (I wasn't sure if the other associated files within the same folder needed to be present together with NETUSB so I moved everything to the desktop) I typed in "sudo ndiswrapper -i NETUSB.inf". After accessing the Windows Wireless Drivers gui I have noticed that the 'netusb' driver is present yet under it, the system states "Hardware present: No". This leads me to believe that maybe I installed incorrectly or my "fireware?" is not present? I was reading through the installation guide posted on the ubuntu website that in addition to the .INF file we also need the BIN file(s)? and SYS file(s)?.. The folder with the drivers for my adapter contains a BIN file but it is not within the "Drivers" section of the folder.
9) Upon mousing over the network Icon naturally my hardware is still not present.
10) From what I gather after the system finds the hardware I am to write into the terminal
[Code]....
