General :: Recycle Scanner Driver?
Nov 26, 2010
I have this Epson multifunction TX-105 and it worked fine with Hardy Heron. Now i am running Lucid Lynx and cannot find a driver for the scanner part. Question: is it safe to try the old script on this new Ubuntu version..? Printer was automatically detected and it's ok. Damn scanner is the one i want to activate.

How to get this scanner to work with Ubuntu 10.10
It's connected and printer is working through the scanner.But i can't get the system to recognise the scanner.
I'm all new to Ubuntu, and i thought it was easy and terminal is a totally new thing to me.
Is there a workaround to get this scanner to work through graphical interface install, or is terminal wisdom needed...

I just received a Canon Pixma MX320 as a gift.
I am currently running the Ubuntu 10.04 OS
I was able to get the printer up and running by downloading the printer driver for debian linux (3.1) from the Canon site without any problems.
Unfortunately I am not having the same luck with the scanner.
I tried downloading ScanGear MP for Linux (deb) (1.3) from the same Canon site but have not yet been able to get the XSane Image Scanner to recognize this scanner driver for my Canon.

Simple question but even google does not come up with an answer, seems to be too easy that someone else asked it ;). Could anyone tell me what is the shell command to empty the garbage bin under Linux?

Recently I did a System Mechanics clean-up of invalid and other misc files. The files were moved to the recycle bin, but I couldn't open a file individually while it was in the recyle bin in order to double check whether or not I wanted to perminently delete it. I then selected all items and moved them to a single folder hoping to open it later to review the individual files.I don't know the folder name or what part of the computer this folder was moved to. Is there a way I can find this new folder, name unknown, that was created on 10-12-10? I'm sure it's taking up valuable space in my computer and I want to permently delete the unwanted items individually and not as a whole batch.

During installation of Ubuntu 10.04, there was no driver found for my Brother MFC-665CW printer/scanner. However, I recently learned on the Forum that there is a printer driver available for the MFC-665CW through Synaptic that can be accessed by searching on printer name. I got it, and it works great. I've not been successful in locating a driver for the scanner part of the MFC-665CW. Does anyone know if there is a driver available on Synaptic that will work for the scanner on a MFC-665CW, and if so how to get to it (i.e., what to search on to locate it)?

Ok, installing the Epson DX8400 printer driver was easy... I just turned it on, and Ubuntu searched and installed the printer itself.
But scanning... that's another story. In Ubuntu 9.04 the trick was as simple as installing libsane-extras in Synaptic, but this doesn't work in Ubuntu 9.10! When I try to run XSane, it simply replies that there is no available device...

I was able to get my Epson Stylus NX510 printer up and running (after much issue), but I can't get the scanner working. I'm on a laptop, and the printer/scanner is wifi enabled and broadcasts with its own IP address. I can print with no problem, but xsane and simple scan don't recognize the scanner. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx.

After downloading and installing iscan and run it i see this message:
Could not send command to scanner. Check scanner's status.
After command sane-find-scanner:
And this message is result of scanimage command:
No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different, check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).

Recently got a Canon Canoscan 8800F after looking it up on the SANE site and said it was completely supported for Linux.
I have downloaded the pixma drivers and have compiled the command line program, but it can't find the scanner.
lsusb returns a Canon scanner Bus 001 Device 005: ID 04a9:1901 Canon, Inc.
and sane-find-scanner returns:found USB scanner (vendor=0x04a9 [Canon], product=0x1901 [CanoScan]) at libusb:001:005
but scanimage -L (under my user login or sudo) returns only the webcam. No other scanner found.
My system is running Linux Mint 7, ia64 kernel 2.6.28-11-generic

I've installed XSane Image Scanner. When I first opened it, it searched for my scanner and didn't give any error messages, and it had my scanner model in the heading of the scan window. But when I hit the scan button, it gave me saying, "Failed to start scanner: error during device I/O.I closed everything, and opened XSane again. This time it said there was no scanner available. The scanner is plugged into the USB port and uses that for both power and data. It's a Canoscan Model N650U.

I have a Plustek 9636T parallel port scanner. Has been faithfully working for me for years up through Fedora 8. It has a kernel driver that I build and install every time the kernel changes.
I finally bit the bullet and did a new install of Fedora 12 to get up to date. But now when I try to build my kernel driver and install it, I get this fatal error on the modprobe:
FATAL: Error inserting pt_drv (/lib/modules/2.6.31.12-174.2.3.fc12.i686.PAE/kernel/drivers/parport/pt_drv.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
Examining dmesg shows: Unknown symbol proc_root. I can't find that message anywhere on a Google search.

I'm really into desktop customization so today while i was changing a couple of things here, i did the stupidity of changing the recycle bin icon (right click on the icon> properties> basic tab). I obviously regreted it and now i'm trying desperatly to restore it to the default icon. I'm not a total noob when it comes to customization

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04. I have set up a pc to act as remote storage. I connect my desktop pc to it. I have done the following:
sudo apt-get install sshfs
sudo adduser fuse
sudo mkdir /mnt/remotedir
sudo chown username /mnt/remotedir
sshfs username@remote_computer_ip:/path_on_remote_comp /mnt/remotedir
(obviously replacing the username and paths with my information)
I can connect to the remote computer however I cannot delete remote files to the recycle bin. What do I need to do in order to delete files to the recycle bin?

I mount /home on a logical partition. Files and directories that I trash from here go nicely into the recycle bin, and I can right click on it and choose "Empty Trash" with no problem. Files off of the root directory in directories that I "own" (i.e. /mydir/*) do not play as nicely. I went ahead and followed instructions from another post, namely:
Code:
sudo mkdir /.Trash
sudo chmod 1777 /.Trash
And after trashing some files from /mydir, there is indeed a subdirectory with my uid (1000) and files that I trash from /mydir are going in there. However, the recycle bin on my desktop remains empty, and the only method I have for deleting said files is by deleting them from the /.Trash/1000 folders through the command line. So my question is: Is there anyway that I can trash files from /mydir, see them appear on the desktop recycle bin, and empty the trash without the need to rm them directly through the command line? Not sure if it will help, but here is my fstab:
Code:
# / was on /dev/sda1 during installation
UUID=4129f389-92be-459e-8bbc-928c1440f718 / ext4 errors=remount-ro 0 1
# /home was on /dev/sda6 during installation
UUID=6a30914d-04a3-4b03-85bd-2bf16a68a41a /home ext4 defaults 0 2
# swap was on /dev/sda5 during installation
UUID=f388cf04-bbd6-4bf9-9d69-0778b0f158fd none swap sw 0 0

I got a new Canon LiDE 110 scanner. It's a very cheap device but the important thing is that it is listed as "completely supported" in the SANE site. I had to compile the latest SANE from sources, but I have no problems with compiling from sources, and now everything runs from the version in /usr/local/... The problem is that "scanimage -L" doesn't detect the scanner. I also don't see any scanners under /dev/... I think it might help if I pass the scanner device with the -d option to scanimage but I don't know how to find out what the device file of it is.
This is what I see with lsusb:
Bus 005 Device 004: ID 1c4f:0003 SiGma Micro
Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 001 Device 007: ID 04a9:1909 Canon, Inc.
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 046d:080f Logitech, Inc.
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
The scanner is on Bus 001 Device 007.
