Ubuntu :: Cannot Install Foomatic-gui Package
May 21, 2010
I have Lucid. I opened Synaptic and tried to install the 'foomatic-gui' package, but it shows an error message of "unresolvable dependencies". The error is "foomatic-gui: Depends: python-gtkhtml2 but it is not installable". I serached in Synaptic for this 'python-gtkhtml2' package, but can not find it. Then I searched the [URL] site and found that the 'python-gtkhtml2' is available for intrepid, jaunty and karmic but not for lucid. How can i get this package installed?

I originally attempted to compile and install xmonad package by package, and the end result was this:
Code:
$ xmonad /home/adx/.xmonad/xmonad-x86_64-linux: executeFile: does not exist (No such file or directory)
X Error of failed request: BadAccess (attempt to access private resource denied) Major opcode of failed request: 2 (X_ChangeWindowAttributes) Serial number of failed request: 7 Current serial number in output stream: 8 I figured I left out a flag on the make file or something, so I tried the slackbuild packages next; however, the same error was present at launch.

Sometimes i have on some magazines or Internet Zip packages that are the answer of what i am looking for.
Wich tool and how can i do it? c Well, i am in position to say that i had downloaded from Internet or located the package in the Cd or DVD that comes with the magazine.
But now comes the big question. How can i put this package ( install) on my distro ???
Do i have to be a normal user or should it be root or su (superuser) ?
The packages that come with the distro is easy, because i select them and everything is done
As i told before, maybe this is a silly question, but i simple don't know how to install them and i need some of them to leave MS for good.

I have Ubuntu version 10.10 and I'm trying to install the HP DeskJet 1000 J110a printer. I have HPLIP version 3.11 (the latest version I believe). The printer shows up but when I try to print the error message reads: Printer requires the 'foomatic-rip-hplip' program but is not currently installed.

I'm updating a working kickstart configuration.Got a good iso from it the last time used.I simply want to add 2 rpms to the installation. So I added the rpms (libganglia & libconfuse) into the ../Server directory. I added those two names to the %packages section in the .cfg file. And I added those two names into two new appropriate lines in the ../Server/repodata/comps.xml file.
I ran "createrepo -g repodata/comps.xml ." from the ../Server (rpms) directory. I then ran my "mkisofs" without issue, and used the resulting .iso. The message I get during installation is "You have specified the package 'libganglia' should be installed. This package does not exist. Would you like to continue or abort your installation?". I've tried several variations of the createrepo command.

I have searched everywhere for the error I am getting which pertains to "E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)" I came across this when I was trying to uninstall dovecot through apt. This is what I am doing:
Quote:
# apt-get --purge remove dovecot
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
[code]....
I have tried the following:
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
apt-get -f install
apt-get clean
dpkg -P courier-pop-ssl
dkkg --remove courier-pop-ssl
None of these seem to work in efforts to unblock what I am trying to ultimately do, which is uninstall dovecot.

I have just visited this page here, Updating openSUSE - openSUSE I have been trying to update my OpenSuSE system for a week now and I have absolutely no idea what causes this problem. The update would start but would stop right in the middle and refuse to install some pulseaudio(...) package... It would indicate that network is down while I am sure it is up.
I am behind a proxy and I have again and again made sure that the proxy settings are correct and alright. Since it downloads some of the packages in the start I believe my connection and settings are OK. Maybe the SuSE server is down, but not for a whole week, I don't think so. I would also like to mention that I have only tried updating through YaST GUI and I am, as of yet, unaware of any console or command-line methods of updating.
I really would like to update my system because I happen to be paranoid in matters of computer security. (Just kidding) But since I cannot install any updates it should mean I might have problem installing new software. So my digital life is literally crippled because of this problem.

I downloaded the 6.06 version of xubuntu because i have a laptop that doesnt support high graphics mode, and i wasnt able to figure out how to get it to run in low graphics mode. i figured that i would get a version from a while back, and then update it up to the current version. now, to the problem. I was able to upgrade 6.10, but now it says Ubuntu version 8.04 available, so i tried to update it. it gets most of the way through the part where it says calculating or something like that, and then it says: "Can't install 'xubuntu-desktop' It was impossible to install a required package. Please report this as a bug." with an option that says close at the bottom. when i click close another window pops up that says: Could not calculate the upgrade A unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade. This can be caused by:
* Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu
If none of this applies, then please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bugreport. Then the window just closes... anything that i could do to get rid of this problem? EDIT: Is there any way to update directly from an .iso file on the desktop?

Whilst I can manage the software centre and synaptic fine and add repositories etc I am at a loss as to what to do with a deb. I have downloaded Komodo Edit 5 software I am familiar with from work and like.
Its default on installation is to make a Komodo folder in my Home folder which I don' like. Am I correct in thinking that usr/local is the recommended location in the file system in which I should install downloaded packages such as this? During use I will want to change preferences in files etc from within the program, would this location restrict me from doing this without sudo.
Is there a better place to install this?

I need to install "network-manager" as per the advice on this thread.
Basically, I need my girlfriends laptop to be able to connect to public wireless networks but the wireless network icon in the system tray is not showing a list of networks.
The thread says to install network-manager. Since she doesn't have access to the internet immediatley available, I need to download it on my own, burn it to a dvd (or onto a flash) and then go to her house to do it myself. Hopefully that will work.

I have a small touchscreen tablet here that's running a cut down version of ubuntu (I think 9.04). It has its own flash gui and no mention of ubuntu on it anywhere (but I know 100% that it is). Anyway, its so cut down it doesn't even have things like apt-get, any file sharing capabilities and it cannot run .deb files. I can only do things to the filesystem via ssh not using the gui. Its running a busybox shell which is also very limited.
I would ideally like to be able to connect to some nfs shares on my ubuntu server with this thing but im having no luck. I have found out its because it doesnt have nfs-common or portmap installed (apparent dependencies). How would I go about manually installing something like that? I need to be pointed in the right direction as atm. I am not too sure. Baring in mind I cannot simply use apt-get or unpack a .deb file.
