View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to install any package in ubuntu (10.04),it gives the error message. Suppose I am installing vlc it gives:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad: Depends: libflite1 but it is not going to be installed
vlc: Depends: vlc-nox (= 1.0.6-1ubuntu1.8) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libqtcore4 (>= 4:4.6.1) but it is not going to be installed .....
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution).
Then I did.
sudo apt-get -f install
It too gives the error as:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Correcting dependencies... Done
The following extra packages will be installed: libflite1

I cannot install gnome. It complains about swfdec-mozilla needing to be installed, I install it, and it now needs epiphany-extensions, which uninstalls swfdec-mozilla.
So there are conflicting dependencies. Could someone fix this?

I've been trying to install Ubuntu Server on an old server since a couple of days and have been unsuccessful. I've google'd a bit but found no solid solution yet to this problem. Everything goes fine and I'm able to partition my SCSI drives and everything. After the installation starts unpacking and copying files this happens. I have to mention that I'm installing from a USB drive with the following added at the end of the normal install options:

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am meeting some problems on my opensuse 11.2 system in the last week, I see an higher load on CPU and the system seems to swap a lot of time. Checking on dmesg I found that at boot time I have a lot of errors: I paste a little part of the full log at the end of this post
If I am not wrong I have found and installed an official opensuse 11.2 kernel update through zypper some days ago Moreover, actually I am not able to use yast package manager because it seems to crash during repositories refresh (or just after it)

View 2 Replies View RelatedI originally attempted to compile and install xmonad package by package, and the end result was this:
Code:
$ xmonad /home/adx/.xmonad/xmonad-x86_64-linux: executeFile: does not exist (No such file or directory)
X Error of failed request: BadAccess (attempt to access private resource denied) Major opcode of failed request: 2 (X_ChangeWindowAttributes) Serial number of failed request: 7 Current serial number in output stream: 8 I figured I left out a flag on the make file or something, so I tried the slackbuild packages next; however, the same error was present at launch.
Sometimes i have on some magazines or Internet Zip packages that are the answer of what i am looking for.
Wich tool and how can i do it? c Well, i am in position to say that i had downloaded from Internet or located the package in the Cd or DVD that comes with the magazine.
But now comes the big question. How can i put this package ( install) on my distro ???
Do i have to be a normal user or should it be root or su (superuser) ?
The packages that come with the distro is easy, because i select them and everything is done
As i told before, maybe this is a silly question, but i simple don't know how to install them and i need some of them to leave MS for good.
Fedora 12 64bit. Is there an easy and reliable way to install *.tar.gz package after extraction? Instead of going through ./configure etc.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have tried installing cinelerra with autoplus and even doing it by hand. Both ways I get "No package cinelerra available" errors.
From Autoplus:
Code:
Checking programs Completed,Now Running Choice Menu...
Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit
atrpms | 3.5 kB 00:00
Setting up Install Process
No package cinelerra available.
Error: Nothing to do
I also followed the installation instructions from the AutoPlus website and got the same result. I looked at the ATrpm website and all I found was cinelerra-2.1-21_git20101021.src.rpm, Am I doing something wrong, or is there another way to install cinelerra?

I'm trying to install Ruby on Rails on an Ubuntu desktop VM. The network connection works ok but I can't seem to get this to work:
sudo apt-get install ruby1.9.2
I want the latest version of Ruby.
Is this because I haven't enabled some repository or something - I dimly recall having to 'enable universe' before now... but can't remember why or how....
I just changed (not upgraded, I made a clean install on a new hard drive) from 9.10 to 10.10 and I have a serious problem. I just can't install new packages. Neither apt-get nor synaptic can find any package. I either get a "E: Unable to locate package <package_name>", or "E: Package <package_name> has no installation candidate" For example when I type sudo apt-get install emacs23 , I get this output: Quote:
Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done E: Unable to locate package emacs23 And the synaptics package manager only lists the packages I already have. I searched these forums and googled my error message, but I couldn' t find anything helpful. The only thing I know is that this is not a network/proxy problem, I am behind a proxy but I have set the http/https/ftp_proxy environment variables, and I have a working network connection, as I am actually posting from the same computer.
I attempted to install the CLI management tool for my Highpoint Rocket Raid card (rr62x) downloaded from this page: [URL] When I tried installing it, this is what happens:
Code:
# dpkg -i hptraidconf_3.5_amd64.deb
Selecting previously deselected package hptraidconf.

How can I get this package removed? I was able to get a different management tool installed to configure my RAID so I don't need this one. My system appears to be working, but everytime I use apt-get to install something else, it shows the hptraidconf package as failed.

To start, I am a very new user of ubuntu, so please bear with me. I just installed ubuntu on an old desktop and cannot get it to install packages. I installed these same packages on my laptop that is a little newer and it works on the laptop, but it wont work on the desktop. I searched for previous threads and found to try
