I am using Fedora Core 4. While trying to install a package or update yum repository I get the following error
# yum update Setting up Update Process Setting up repositories Cannot open/read repomd.xml file for repository: legacy-base failure: repodata/repomd.xml from legacy-base: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try.
tried to search the web but couldn't find any working solution.

Im not able to install the package mesa-32bit from this repository: Index of /repositories/X11:/XOrg/openSUSE_11.3. It tells me to make a huge change on architecture on many packages, plus downgrading mesa to 7.8.2 from 7.9 !

My procedure for updating the installed packages was, to klick on the list of packages that are installed in the installation source @ system in YAST and choose "Update if newer version is available". Up to Suse 11.3 Yast automatically chooses the latest version from each available repository that is installed (eg, Packman or Mozilla Build Service). With 11.4 however, I noticed that it only updates a package, if a newer version is avalible in the repository from which the package originally origines. Since I don't want to look through 4 GB of packages manually, whether there are newer versions in another repository available, I ask you if I there is a posibility to get the old behavior of YAST back.

If a software package I want to install is available in more than one repository, how can I choose which repository to install the package? And is there a way to do this with Synaptic?

I downloaded the first CD Image as instructed at [url] and installed it on my laptop. I would like to install the "Synaptic Package Manager" and a mirror repository so that my system can update.
I have apparently installed " apt-cdrom add" and then typed "apt-get update" and I tried to install the mirror when the system was installed but as the wireless was not connected it apparently did not add the correct details.

Here is the new version that works with Fedora 13. It installs the latest Skype from the Skype repository (apparently the Skype repo was outdated in the past, but now it contains the same version as on the Skype website). First, create the skype.repo file in the zq3tf/etc/yum.repos.d directory:
[Code]....
Third, one may have to install a few libraries that Skype needs. If you're interested, you can find out more about these libraries with ldd /usr/share/skype and with yum provides *..., but this is not required for installation. All you need to do is (got this from Krellan's post):

Sometimes i have on some magazines or Internet Zip packages that are the answer of what i am looking for.
Wich tool and how can i do it? c Well, i am in position to say that i had downloaded from Internet or located the package in the Cd or DVD that comes with the magazine.
But now comes the big question. How can i put this package ( install) on my distro ???
Do i have to be a normal user or should it be root or su (superuser) ?
The packages that come with the distro is easy, because i select them and everything is done
As i told before, maybe this is a silly question, but i simple don't know how to install them and i need some of them to leave MS for good.

I'm new to Linux. I've just installed Fedora and I'm wondering how to install Skype since it is not inside the repository. I use a 64bit system. I've seen that it is possible to download it from Skype home page. On some websites I've read to download the dynamic package, not the one for Linux, I did it, it is a compressed file, I've uncompressed it but now I don't know how to go on.
The readme file says to copy the bynary into usr/bin (is the binary the file called skype with no extension) and to install the folders avatars, icons... into usr/shared/skype. I've pasted the skype file into the usr/bin folder, but how do I install the folders, I've tried to copy them in the position, but it doesn't work? What about the files skype.conf and skype.desktop, what do I have to do with them? If this is not the correct way to install Skype, what should I do?

Everything was successful until I got stuck at this point (the DVD Playback section) -

I would like to test 12.1 M5 on my real hardware, so I have special for this purpose two additional partitions (sda2 (to install milestone) and sda3 (to store installation ISO files)). I am running my stable 11.4 with Grub on sda1.
I do not like to burn DVDs just for short test of one milestone, so I was used to download DVD ISO, to unpack it to sda3 partition with all its files, then I changed Grub to boot install Linux from sda3. Installation complains there is no DVD or CD, then I chose to force installation from hard disk and select sda3 partition and select root directory "/". As I was used to from 11.4 this will start installation as it would be started from DVD.
But I think the problem has appeared since 12.1, where I get message: No repository found. (on sda3 / ), so the installation does not start.
I know this is not official way to install openSuse, but it worked before, and it was fast and easy for me, to install from hard disk.

I am looking for a thorough document that explains:
1) Creating a local repo
2) Using kickstart to access that repo
3) Performing a network install using kickstart
Some background: I have several racks of servers that I need to install Fedora on. These servers CANNOT be placed on the internet; hence the need for the creation of a local repo on some other machine (which will be connected to the servers via a local network). I am not sure how to create a local repo, so that one of my questions.
I'd also like to automate as much of the install as possible and kickstart is the only thing I know of for that. I am no guru with kickstart, but I have used it before to successfully install Fedora Core 6 -- I am hoping there are no great changes with the current releases of Fedora (12-14)?
A local repo of Fedora Core 6 was created by someone (some time ago) on a workstation (running FC6). This is what I've used in the past to install FC6 on previous servers (via a kickstart CD). However, I dont have the documentation on how the repo was created or how the kickstart CD was created I've gleaned some ideas ok kickstart from the pieces I've read on web, but none of it has been specific to the latest releases of Fedora.

And I'm finding it difficult to install a package with "<filename>.tar.bz". I followed few threads but still I couldn't get it done properly.
I actually tried to install phpmyadmin, and downloaded the phpMyAdmin-3.3.8.1-all-languages.tar.gz.
Then used "tar -zxvf phpMyAdmin-3.3.8.1-all-languages.tar.gz" command to unpack.
And in that solution, it said to execute a command called "./configure". But when I tried that, the terminal gave me an error saying,
"bash: ./config: No such file or directory".

As topic, I have trouble with compiling brlcad as this thread.
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=249899
I assume the last problem I encounter was lack of development package in the system. Hence, I tried "yum install Xorg-devel" and the terminal reply"No package xorg-x11-devel available."

I'm trying to get my bearings in Fedora 13 (64-bit) in a virtual machine.I'm using the version with the Gnome DE.Now I'd like to install Koffice. But when I got to the package manager to select packages to install, I get a huge list of components to select for installation -- Kwrite, Kspread, Core support for Koffice, Libraries needed for Koffice, etc.Is there any way to select the version of Koffice that I want and have the whole set of necessary packages automatically be selected too?

I was wondering if there is a possibility to configure yum in such way that it would download and install packages at the same time? What i mean is that after downloading certain package it continues to download the next one but at the same time it is installing the one it has already downloaded? Is it possible in fedora? I remeber back when i was using openSUSE 11.2 that the behaviour of the installer was configurable and would let users to choose if they want to download all packages first and then install them or download a package, keep downloading next ones but install the already downloaded ones .
