May 2, 2011I am running Mandriva x64 and the nepoumuk file indexing was causing system hangups (in addition to not returning any results) so i disabled it. However kfind is not returning any results either - i feel a bit stupid and I'm sure there's a simple answer to this but How do i locate files under Mandriva linux? Is there a simple KDE application for that or do i need to look at kfind settings? Does file search only work with indexed database?

Jan 1, 2010How do you send files, save or other wise write to CD using Mandriva Linux? On windows you get a helper menu. Linux does not offer this option in it's helper file and you can't click and drag a file in the CD folder. The dialog box reads "you do not have permission to write to this folder" when I try to drag it in and I can't change the permission signed in as Root.I don't have a clue. I wish Linux Questions would add a emotioncon that has the expression " what the hell buddy? are you on ten hits of acid?

Sep 14, 2010I have a site which will have, for example, a login system where people have to enter their usernames and passwords, depending on which they'll be let in to the site. So, in code, I've got a line like:

My problem is, this "Wrong password" printing is just a solitary line, not keeping with the colours and style of the site, and it looks very bad. I want to ideally, output some HTML, which will have a picture, and print the "Wrong password" in the font and colours I desire. Do I have to put all the HTML in a print statement, and then deal with the nightmare of escaping all the quote marks in it with a ""? Or is there a cleaner method to the whole thing? Maybe something like this -

Jan 11, 2010Ubuntu 8.0.4,GnomeDesktop with firefox (we are going to use) Epson Thermal printer(M-T500 Thermal Printer) [URL]... without linux driver,provide serial port ctrl. I get the command manual(pfd).I can test the command by run minicom however. I want to print the Web page (.html) provide by our web servers.Those pages have a js-button(javascript) each with the function that the firefox/or (custom) app demo is called to print the line/table/div/etc (not the whole page,like the receipt) after the js-button is pressed. There is a window showing the print-progress info will be better when it is printting. I just try to find the best way to do this: I got ghostscript after search by google but it is just used for pfd print or something. So How can I just implment this?

General :: Cannot Post Files To /var/www/html Using FTP?
Nov 25, 2010I created a local user acount and tested FTP. This allows me to post files to this directory using filezilla. I then created a webftpaccount and set the home directory to /var/www/html. Here are the permission to this directory using ls -l drwxrwsr-x 6 webftpaccount webftpaccount 4096 Nov 23 10:32 htmlhere are the permission on the sub directories

I can log into the webftpaccount using filezilla client and it lists all the directories.It will not allow me to write a file into the html directory or any of the sub directories.Can someone help me set appropriate permissions on these directories so that I can get this working? I need to get FTP working so I set up dreamwaever FTP tlich and maintain sites.

Sep 27, 2010When I print receipts from certain company's emails, they span three pages or more bloated with images, links and overly large text. I can view the message in plain text by setting the preferences to only display text instead of html, but it doesn't affect what is printed. I still get the full HTML page printed. Is there a way to force evolution to print in plain text instead of HTML?

However, if I want to limit my search to PHP files, the -r flag is suddenly useless:

Any good way to recursively search a directory and its subdirs for a string but ONLY look at PHP or HTML files (and possibly TXT files too) ? I'm really hoping for a nice, short command that doesn't involve using an exclude file and which isn't really painful to type. I do this kind of search very frequently and have resorted to either searching EVERY file which is really slow (TAR and ZIP files really slow it down) OR typing repeated commands to search *.php, */*.php, etc.
General :: Finding Website Links In HTML Files?
May 29, 2010I have a website that has a massive list of royalty free stock photos and I want to download all of them. I have bought a membership for [URL] so I am able to download as much as I want from them for the next month.
Instead of going page by page and manually downloading each set of stock photos manually, I would like to automate this process. Here's my idea:
1. Download the website with the links to hotfile [URL]
2. Use grep to retrieve all the links to [URL]
3. Feed the links I recieve from grep into wget and download the works of them.
The problem I'm getting is when I use grep, It retrieves the entire line of html code where "hotfile.com" is shown. So here is an example of one link I receive in the output:

Ubuntu :: Cannot Print PDF Files - Print Preview Shows A Blank Page
Jun 5, 2011I cannot print pdf files. I have tried using okular and xpdf. The documents display in the program, but print preview shows a blank page. The printer then sends out blank pages. I have tried printing on 2 different printers using usb cables. Using terminal to process the commands shows error:

Mar 12, 2011I've an network architecture where for the user to reach the machine that it want, it has to pass through a frontend machine.

User ---> Frontend ----> Machine1
The connections between all hosts uses ssh. If I want to reach the Machine1, I've to authenticate to the Frontend and authenticate again to the Machine1. The Machine1 and the Frontend doesn't have X installed - only console mode.
The Machine1 has the file in my HOME directory called: hello.html that contains flash embedded. I would like to view the hello.html in my browser located at the User machine.
Is there a way to access remotely to the html file, without have to copy the file to my local machine?

Oct 20, 2009I suspect that this has come up numerous times, but I am new to Linux and I am setting up a new in-house server using Ubuntu 9.04 and Apache, etc. I can see the welcoming "It Works!" message when I log in via Firefox. I can see "index.html" when I FTP the server with the site name and password at /var/www. I can also see the -rw-r-r-- attributes, but I can't edit the HTML file or replace it. When I try to rename the "index.html" file.
I get the following message: "Request denied. Verify that the file or folder exists and that you have the necessary permissions on the server to perform the requested operation."
I haven't been able to determine where to enter the password or what changes I need to make to be able to work with the /var/www directory via FTP.

Aug 6, 2010I can't print pdf files from the Ubuntu PDF viweer on my printer - I get a message that 'pdftorasterfailed'. My workaround is to print to file then print the postscript file. Annoying but it works. I did some searching and this is a known bug in cups for Ubuntu 10.04. The first thing I tried was a system update, that did update cups but it still fails. I found this link:

Mar 7, 2011I recently upgraded from FC12 to FC14 due to errors using yum and rpm. I keep running into mirror sites with RPM files that don't install. These site have what appear to be valid RPM files, but if I use wget to retrieve the file and run "file" on it, it turns out to be an HTML file. I understand the fact that if a file is corrupted, it won't install, but I can open these "RPM" files using Mozilla after changing the extension from RPM to HTML. When I open the new HTML file, I'm prompted by the browser to open or save the RPM file. If I save the RPM file pointed to by the HTML file, I can download and install it using rpm -ivvh unless a dependency check fails. how does anyone install using yum if the package is an HTML file with an RPM extension. Here is a link as an example:

If I use wget on this file and then run "file" on it, here is the output:

If I change the extension of this file to HTML and open it with my browser, I am prompted to download the RPM file which turns out to be a true RPM v3.0 file. I am running behind a proxy server and have installed cntlm, configured wgetrc, yum.conf and .curlrc to use the proxy server. I am able to download and install most of the simpler applications where the dependencies are either installed or non required.

The error is "foomatic-gui: Depends: python-gtkhtml2 but it is not installable". I serached in Synaptic for this 'python-gtkhtml2' package, but can not find it. Then I searched the [URL] site and found that the 'python-gtkhtml2' is available for intrepid, jaunty and karmic but not for lucid. How can i get this package installed?

Feb 3, 2010I'm trying to set up some basic websites on an Apache 2 server running on my Linux box. At the moment, I have some really basic html files that I want to load into the /var/www directory. However, for whatever reason, I cannot save my html files. First, I thought it was because I didn't have permission on my account, so I switched to localadmin (i don't know if all Linux distros come with a localadmin account, but i know localadmin has "higher" permissions than, but less that root, of course). Even as localadmin, I could not save my html files!

Aug 7, 2010I just downloaded libgtk2.0-doc at the gtkmm docs to help me with some programming. I've found where the libgtk2.0 documents are (/usr/share/gtk-doc/html) and I'm not for sure where the gtkmm docs are.
My question is: what is an easy way to view all of these HTML files? I know on Ruby you can run gem-server and you can see all of your RDocs from localhost on your browser. Is there an equivalent to that on Ubuntu for gtk-doc?

Feb 11, 2010i am having a very weird problem with one of my ubuntu shared maps (/home/marc/shared).I am using VMware. Windows 7 host. Ubuntu 9.10 Guest.By right clicking the shared folder (/home/marc/shared) and selecting "Sharing options" i have installed the samba software needed. The installation went fine and samba seems all good.The folder should have read write access.When using windows 7 to browse the network the shared ubuntu folder appears nicely. I use my root credentials to login wich works nicely too.
Now the following strange thing happens:When i create a file e.g. test.php, i can edit it delete it. Actually i can do whatever i want.When i create a file e.g. test.html (mind the .html extension), for some reason i can read it, delete it, but not edit it! Windows gives me somekind of message like "Please check whether if this file is opened by another program".How on earth is this possible? I never opened or used the .html file in another application so i guess it has something to do with write access credentials. Which is weird since i am able to delete the file?
