Ubuntu :: Cannot Burn Second Disk Until Reboot

Jun 3, 2010

First Ubuntu install, everything is great except one small problem burning. Using Brasero

I burn CD fine Eject disc Drive is not accessible for reading or writing CD's until I reboot the computer Right click on the drive to mount volume and get "Unable to mount volume, no media in drive"

After reboot all is fine. I have tried multiple burners, same issue. USB burners can be unplugged, replugged in and used without a reboot.

Drive is a ASUS DRW 1612DL IDE

Happens in both Brasero and K3B

Ubuntu 9.04 Jackalope

Ubuntu :: Can't Burn A Data Disk?

Jan 14, 2011

I can't burn a data disk through Ubuntu.I tried using the built-in disk creator, It had some kind of error saying the disk cannot be mounted.So I used Brasero instead and I got essentially the same error. When I tried to open both CD's the files appeared to be present but were all corrupt.Braso works fine for burning music CD's but I can't get it to work for data.here is the error log from Brasero:

BraseroReadom stderr: Time total: 131.474sec
BraseroReadom stderr: Read 666760.00 kB at 5071.4 kB/sec.
BraseroReadom stderr: HUP
BraseroReadom process finished with status 0

Session error : Some files may be corrupted on the disc (brasero_burn_record brasero-burn.c:2862)

Ubuntu Installation :: Can't Burn Boot Disk

Jul 31, 2010

have previously burnt many iso Ubntu disks with no problems but evry time I try whether Linux or win I cannot boot from the disk. The burnt disk shows separate files rather than a single iso. I've tried them on 3 different computers with the first boot device set to CD and they all boot normally into Grub (except the netbook which only has XP).

CentOS 5 :: K3b Must Use Force To Burn Disk

Sep 20, 2011

Since updating to C5.7 (64bit) when I go to burn an ISO it is not recognizing the blank disk and I have to use the force option(k3b). In 5.6 it worked fine. This is the same box of disks(and everything else) I was using before the update. The disks seem to burn fine (verify ok). It is just a PITA to have to hit the force button every time.

Ubuntu Servers :: Disk Not Unmounting Cleanly On Reboot?

Jun 15, 2011

We are using Ubuntu 10.04LTS server on Vmware Vsphere estate. We are using LVM and have / and /var on separate partitions.

We have been experiencing an odd issue with sda1 always being fsck'd after every reboot. We seem to have traced this to the start/kill scripts in rc0.d and rc6.d. It appears that the reason the disk is not being unmounted is because some of the scripts are never being run because they are prefixed with S. We renamed and reordered the scripts to reflect what we thought should be the correct order - i.e. not halting the system before unmounting disks. System reboots cleanly now.

Before list of rc0.d and rc6.d respectively:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 2010-11-18 15:06 K01apache2 -> ../init.d/apache2
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 22 2010-11-16 17:03 K01zabbix-agent -> ../init.d/zabbix-agent
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 22 2010-11-30 08:16 K03vmware-tools -> ../init.d/vmware-tools

[Code]....

basically are we expected to do these changes as part of building new servers for production use? Quite happy to do this but just surprised that this is the default.

Hardware :: Mount New IDE Disk Without Reboot?

Feb 6, 2011

I have an IDE disk which fails intermittently. It contains data only, no system files. (The system files are on /dev/sda1). Mostly at boottime the system fails to mount it even though it is listed in /etc/ftab as /dev/hda1 /mnt/hda1 ext2 default 1 0 I want to recover the files on it.

Is it possible to mount it after bootup? Is it necessary to reboot to detect attached disks? If the BIOS fails to detect the disk, is it impossible to mount it thereafter?

system is Slackware 10. Kernel 2.4

General :: RAID Disk Inactive After Reboot

Aug 12, 2010

I just configured two raid setups but after a reboot they are not mounted and seem to be inactive.

md127 = sde1, sdf1 and sdi1 (raid 5)
md0 = sda1 and sdh1 (raid 0)
Code:
root@server /]# cat /proc/mdstat
Personalities :
md127 : inactive sdf1[1](S) sde1[2](S)
78156032 blocks
md0 : inactive sda1[0](S)
488382977 blocks super 1.2
unused devices: <none>

Code:
[root@server /]# fdisk -l | grep "Disk /"
Disk /dev/sda: 500.1 GB, 500107862016 bytes
Disk /dev/sdb: 80.0 GB, 80026361856 bytes
Disk /dev/sdc: 122.9 GB, 122942324736 bytes
Disk /dev/sdd: 160.0 GB, 160041885696 bytes
Disk /dev/sde: 40.0 GB, 40020664320 bytes
Disk /dev/sdf: 40.0 GB, 40020664320 bytes
Disk /dev/sdg: 1500.3 GB, 1500301910016 bytes
Disk /dev/sdh: 251.0 GB, 251000193024 bytes
Disk /dev/sdi: 40.0 GB, 40020664320 bytes
Disk /dev/sdj: 500.1 GB, 500107862016 bytes

Code:
[root@server /]# cat /etc/mdadm.conf
DEVICE /dev/sdi1 /dev/sdf1 /dev/sde1 /dev/sda1 /dev/sdh1
ARRAY /dev/md127 UUID=5dc0cf7a:8c715104:04894333:532a878b auto=yes
ARRAY /dev/md0 UUID=65c49170:733df717:435e470b:3334ee94 auto=yes

As you can see they now show up as inactive. And for some reason sdi1 and sdh1 are not even listed. What can I do to get them back? To make matters worse I placed some important data on them, and even if I was clever enough to keep an extra copy on another drive, guess which drive that was? So, I need to get them activated as is (at least so I can get the data of them) before I can rebuild them from scratch. I'm running Mandriva 2010.1 and rated tehm using the built in disk partitioner.

Ubuntu is the only operating system on the laptop. My problem is, neither of the file burning apps Brasero Disk Burner or Send to CD/DVD will detect my blank DVD's. Both apps detect the blank CD's without a problem. File browser is able to read data on this DVD type in fact I installed Ubuntu from a DVD of this type.

I can not burn any cd / dvd with Braseo, GnomeBaker, nautilus burner, etc.

The discs are "apparently" normally recorded

But then Ubuntu or DVDPlayer does not recognize the DVD or CD I burned.

Conclusion: Waste DVDs because they are unusable and I can not record.

I have a Gateway nv-53 laptop.

P.D: In older Ubuntu editions, Fedora 15, etc, I can burn disc perfectly.

Ubuntu Installation :: 9.10 - Non-system Disk Or Disk Error With Manual Partitions

Apr 9, 2010

This is the third 9.10 install to do this on two different laptops, so wondering what's up...

In both cases, the goal was to leave a large chunk of unpartitioned disk after the Ubuntu partitions, for a second OS install or a filesystem Ubuntu cannot create like NTFS.

When I install with manual partitions, the system can't boot and asks for me to insert a system disk and press any key. When I reinstall telling Ubuntu to "use the entire disk" it then works.

First laptop, first try:

Remainder of the 500GB disk is free space.

Fails to boot, "insert system disk".

First laptop, second try without the /boot partition:

Remainder of the 500GB disk is free space.

Fails to boot, "insert system disk".

"use entire disk" works perfectly.

Second laptop, first try:

Same thing, non-system disk or disk error, insert system disk.

Second try "use entire disk" is currently in progress but I expect the same to happen.

Ubuntu Servers :: HW RAID Disk Shows Up In Fstab But Not In /dev/disk/by-uuid?

Jun 28, 2010

I have an SiI hardware SATA RAID card, with two 500GB disks in mirrored RAID configuration. When I first plugged them in and set it up, things seemed to work ok, but on boot the raid controller told me that the RAID needed rebuilding, and it would happen automatically after POST. So I didn't worry about it, and the drive mounted fine, and it's been that way for years. I just went in and manually on-line rebuilt the RAID in the controller's BIOS, and now when I boot into Ubuntu, both disks show up in fdisk, but neither show up in /dev/disk/by-uuid. Am I missing something?
