I have Ubuntu 10.10 installed in a notebook. Everything goes gone but the sound output, I can only hear the built in speakers, and I didn't find the headset output controls. I know there's no more mechanical switch as in the past, I mean, when you plug the headset it's is detected by the OS and the sound should come from that output, instead of the speakers, but that's not my case.

I can't hear the music playing on my speakers, BUT i can hear the music playing in my headphones when i insert my headphones jack.
I have tried configuring aslamixer, tried configuring the sound devices but nothing seems to work. i have also installed a lot of music players such as asla player, audacity and so on. i also tried configuring the aslamixer from the terminal but it did's work as well.
I must add that i have linux ubuntu netbook remix 9.10 i386 installed and windows xp home edition sp3. In windows, i have no problem playing any sound. (I am new to linux <2 days> but very experimented with windows <17 years>).

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have Debian wheezy, and win xp, installed on my Toshiba Satellite P205-S6337 laptop. The laptop speakers do not work when the computer starts up, but they work in windows. After fiddling with the sound preferences and making sure the volume was turned up with alsamixer. I tried plugging in headphones.I could hear sound on the headphones. Then when I unplugged the headphones the laptop's built in speakers work again! This wouldn't be such a problem except I have to plug in and unplug a pair of headphones to make them work.

View 9 Replies View RelatedSound comes out of my laptop speakers, but only when hardware is selected as "Analog Stereo". "Digital Stereo" does not function at all. I don't think this is a priority though.
More importantly, my headphones do not have sound unless it is only partway plugged into the headphone jack. However, this does not help as sound is still coming out of my speakers. The instant I plug it all the way in, the sound disappears from both speakers and headphones. I have not tested this with multiple headphones (no access), but these ones work just fine in Windows 7 plugged in all the way.
I have tried an amazing number of things back in '09 when I was running 9.10, but gave up as no one could provide the answer. The threads that are related are:

I am now on a FRESH install of 10.04 Lucid Lynx, so any changes I made in attempt to fix it is gone.
Looking into alsamixer, I found that there is a headphones column, but no bar. It just says it's on. So headphones don't seem to have their own level of volume that's set too low.

I want to make the audio available only on my headset and to turn the laptop speakers off. In windows, when i plug in the headphones, the speakers automatically turn off and audio is output only on the heads but that's not the case with slackware. I was looking in alsamixer and the audio and video configuration, but no success.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI currently have my desktop setup with two displays, one of them being my living room tv that I run Boxee on. My problem is that all the audio runs through the same speakers preventing me from listening to music or gaming at the same time as when Boxee is in use.
I would like to know if it's possible to split the audio so that an application of my choosing only outputs sound through my headphones. I was thinking it would be possible with some of the controls in pulse, but if it is I cannot figure it out.
I just installed 10.10 and I'm having an issue where sound outputs from the headphones and my speakers simultaneously, and the volume control controls both outputs rather than one of them individually.This has been asked about before at this thread, but none of the solutions I've tried from there have worked. I tried installing linuxant, but it just killed my sound altogether despite uninstalling it afterward. I tried updating the Linux audio modules as per this page but to no avail.I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 (64-bit) on my own custom built desktop, which for what it's worth, contains this motherboard.
View 8 Replies View RelatedAfter a lot of messing around and research, I figured out how to actually get my bluetooth headphones to connect and stay connected. Although once I shut them off, remove the device and re-add it using Blueman.
Right now, `pavucontrol` shows "Headphones (unplugged)" and there is no sound coming out of the speakers. But there is no sound coming out of the headphones either. They are set to the fallback. I've opened `alsamixer` and made sure everything was turned up. Still, no sound.
Since `bt-audio` isn't on Jessie, I don't know what I should do. It seems like this may be the missing step but I am unsure.
Ever since I installed Debian, when I plug in the headphones the sound goes out through both the headphones and the speakers (they aren't blocked). I don't mind it that much, but could it be potentially damaging to my sound hardware?

I can do this easily enough through System --> Preferences --> Sound, but I'd like to create a GUI front end for me to do this. This is more as a learning exercise than anything else.What is the best language for me to build the windows to do this? Also, how do I find the commands to let me toggle the sound settings? View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) with Skype, and I can't get the microphone to work. I can hear them, but they can't hear me. I tried the same headset with my Windows system, and it works fine, so the headset is OK.
I looked at "Sound Preferences", and noticed that when I click on the "Input" tab, the area where you can adjust the volume is set at the minimum, and grayed out, so I can't adjust it.
I have installed Fedora 13 on my laptop, but there is something wrong with the sound。It just comes from both the computer and the headphone. I have installed alsa, you can see as follows:

I have gotten my microphone working, this was an issue for a long time.
Now I can hear myself through my headphones so I know the computer is "hearing" it.
But... I still show "No Input Devices Available" in my Pulse Audio volume control so I'm still not able to record... which of course is my whole point.
I'm having an issue where I can't hear any sounds in Ubuntu 10.04 (64-bit). In the Sounds Preferences, under Hardware it correctly lists "SB X-Fi Xtreme Audio". The sound is not muted, and I've tried cycling through various Profile options in the hardware tab. I can hear the sound of my files from any other program. However, Banshee 2.0 (the Ubuntu new player) seems to have a bug or something, and I can hear anything.
I am new to using linux. i have installed gOS linux recently on my system. everything is working fine including the updates, videos and graphics but i cannot hear any sound. my pc configuration is intel dual coree 3.4 ghz, 3 gb ddr2 667 ram, intel 945 gcl (integrated sound driver by sigmatel), 160 gb 7200 rpm hard drive( seagate), nvidia 6600 LE 512 ddr2, creative 2.1. i have tried changing the default sound driver from intel hda alsa mixer which is the default as sound driver in the system to sigamel oss mixer but that proved to be of no use actually. i have also connected a few of my friend' pc s to my system to find out any problems if there is with the sound box but there isn't any.the speaker is just working fine with those systems. but when it comes to my own system i cannot hear any sound.
