Ubuntu :: Cannot Download Anything From Main Server
Aug 17, 2010
Its being a while that I can't download anything from the main server or any server for ubuntu (updates, programs, etc...) I can connect to the internet I can download things from the internet but anything pretending to ubuntu I just can't I've tried everything and it just doesn't work. I have an internet connection and i tried switching servers even clicked select best server and this is the response "No suitable server was found please check your internet connection" I've clicked and unclicked things I just don't know what else to do.
I have clamav daemon installed on Etch.Using freshclam I'm getting this problem:
Code: ClamAV update process started at Thu Feb 4 15:02:44 2010 getfile: Can't write 2648 bytes to /var/lib/clamav/clamav-cb8fa805f6a76c1622e65661ba19bc01 WARNING: Can't download main.cvd from db.local.clamav.net BTW to remove and install again doesn't.
I am using two operating systems, Ubuntu and Mandriva, problem I can not download the updates from the main sites. On Ubuntu I changed the mirror site and worked fine. [URL]. I have already posted two sites already about this. How can the main mirror update site on Mandriva been changed.
I have a touchscreen panel pc that boots a version of Debian. I have very little experience with Linux in general. I need to quickly get up to speed with this operating system and Debian in general. The panel pc uses an ARM 9 processor, which I need to program to control a lighting system. I have a good back ground in C programming and embedded control. send me a link to an ISO file of Debian that I can burn and load on my main work pc.
This is our first time choosing and installing linux. Our other servers are all windows 2008 x64. We were told to install fedora 13. I can only find a download for the desktop version and we're looking for the SERVER x64 download. Could I please get a link?
I have a ubuntu server running on a ten year old desktop and it runs great but i cant seem to change the video out put away from the normal anolog port to a TY port.My server is just for home use and I do not know the terminalThe reason I need to move to the other port is I do not have a screen for it but I do have a little old TV that will work.
I am a new, working on RHEL5. I am a bit confused on file permissions. I want to know how the setuid, setgid and sticky bit works on linux. And what are the advantages of using these bits? Can anyone explain me the main concepts of using these permissions?
I have a sendmail server in my compani and I have a aliase that send one email for every employee but there are people that is not employee sending mail for this aliase and I need to avoid it some one have to do that.
First of all I've looked at "similar threads" without finding an answer. I'm setting up Name-based VH using an IP as the base. The OS is CentOS 5.4
My config looks like:
NameVirtualHost 12.345.678.90:80 # # NOTE: NameVirtualHost cannot be used without a port specifier # (e.g. :80) if mod_ssl is being used, due to the nature of the # SSL protocol.
[Code]...
The names are of course not in DNS so to access the server from my local Windows machine I had to use the hosts file: 12.345.678.90 dev1 Entering dev1 in my browser *does* take me to the server but it takes me to default VH (DocumentRoot /var/www/html). What am I overlooking?
I have a server (RHEL 4.7) with an mqueue that keeps growing over a two or three day interval. Then I have to manually flush the queue by removing all the mail in the spool directory as the sendmail flush command doesn't work. I've looked at the mail queue manually with a sendmail -bp command and it seems to show an occaisional mail item in the queue. On the other hand, there seems to be a lot more non-legitimate emails in the queue spool. how do I find out the source of the email in the main queue? Next, how do I stop it from building the queue? Next, is there anyway to automatically flush the queue once it builds if I need to?
I'm trying to change some configurations but when I change it from the default options in main.cf, it doesn't actually update the running configuration. I've even restarted the server all together but it still doesn't update it.In main.cf, here is the configuration I've added:
i have been trying to complete the following project1) Configure a FTP server where we can upload and download files.........2) server must run at 9 pm & stop at 9 am automatically ............although the first task was easy ,i have no idea how to accomplish the 2nd task(not to mention I'm a new user)
i setup the following script ro run each night (12am) as a cron on the main server:
if mount | grep -q '/home'; then rsync -ranv --delete /home/ 138.73.56.12:/home;
[code]....
the main server is running on a dell poweredge 2600. The script rsyncs to a virtualised duplicate running on a hp dl380. when i set this script up and begn running data started going missing from the main server. if new files had been created the files by staff they would go missing, if data was added to existing files prior to activating the script the new changes made to that file would be lost.i just cant understand why this happened. as soon as i turned the script off after a few days it was all back to normal but the data that had gone missing had gone missing.
i just wanted to know if this could be a disk read/write issue, was the script running too soon not allowing data to be written before it can be backed up? could it bee memory? i just dont know. another developed occured after a few days of all this happening, which was one of our hard disk from the main server started mis behaving and flashing amber (attention).
It's been a while since I configured a raid and have been making some changes to my main workstation/server. fdisk does not like md devices on my machine... always says it has an invalid partition table. While this is said to be normal all over the net, I don't feel warm and fuzzy about that fact. What is best practice these days, to create a non-partitionable md device or a partitionable mdp device?
If I create a partitionable md device, I would imagine it would look good in fdisk. However, I am concerned about growing the array afterward. I would then have to grow the array, redefine the partition, and then grow the file system. The PITA factor goes up. Has anyone worked with both? Pro/Cons? My array was created with:
I have a debian box running Apache2 and PHP5.2.6 lenny.
When a request is made via https, php displays the content fine. If the request is made over HTTP the file is offered for download, rather than displaying it.
I know its probably something trivial but I've never seen this issue.
The plot thickens, I can display PHP over HTTP in some directories but not others (which offer the file for download)?
I am running Fedora 10, Postfix and Dovecot I recently changed the password of a user using the 'passwd' command. The problem is that the user can no longer receive their email messages in Thunderbird (Authentication Error). However, they can still login using SquirrelMail and get their mail.
I have SLES10 SP3 with Apache2 in version 2.2.3 and php5.
I have a virtual host configuration with one vhost.
The /etc/apache2/listen.conf:
Code:
In _web-ims.conf:
Code:
This directory (/etc/apache2/conf.d) also contains the php-config-file php5.conf which now gets interpreted (I suppose):
Code:
Actually things are working OK.
However, ON THE SERVER php only gets interpreted by the FireFox browser when called upon localhost: [url] //Works fine.
When called thru the IP:
BUT when I call [url]
FROM ANOTHER CLIENT-COMPUTER, for example my windows computer with XP, using Internet Explorer, then it works!
So, does s.o. have any idea why the same call that does work on another client does not work on the Server? And why does the call with localhost on the server work?
Is that a bug in the FireFox-Browser or where do I have to tell him that he should interpret the php-code also from the IP and not only from loccalhost?
is it would be possible create a Ubuntu dvd that contains the ubuntu server desktop and alternate install opptions, as well as all four main desktop environments (gnome, kde, xfce, lxde) and unity. since much of the data is redundant between each version cd's it would probably all fit on one disk. then all that would be needed is two disks one for 32 bit and another for 64 bit. i really think that this could work.
I'm trying to figure out how to access the local part and the domain part of an email address in postfix's main.cf. For example, myname@mydomain.net has myname as the local part and mydomain.net as the domain part.I get the whole email address with %s. I want to speed up the lookups by writing better database queries.I've had no luck finding this in the otherwise well documented postfix.
I have a new 9.10 install, and every time I try to reload the software sources, I get halted at the 9th item being downloaded. When I try installing software from synapatic, the same thing happens but it won't download even the first item. The same thing also happens when I try apt-get from the terminal. The same thing also happens when I try downloading a .deb file and the said piece of software has unmet dependencies. I tried switching the software server from the US server to the main server, but when I try updating the sources, I get a couple error windows.
I wanna implement a GNUPG program which is a encryption program. Therefore i need to download the files. But the terminal wont download. It just show blank lines. This is what I typed in the terminal.
haloiuy(at)ubuntu:~/GNUPG/libassuan$ ftp ftp(dot)gnupg(dot)org Connected to ftp(dot)gnupg(dot)org. 220-Welcome hacker!
I`m looking for some php script or maybe some nice GUI to vsftpd. There problem is that in our company very often we have to create download links for our clients.

it have worked before when the server used port 21 but now when they changed it to 4700 it doesn't work. I have emailed them and they get it to work with FLASHFXP but that is a freeware and it is for windows.
in filezilla I get "Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing"
I just installed ubuntu server on a spare pc I have and I plan on hosting forums on it. I don't want to install the gui on it and waste resources as the pc is not all that new. But I don't know how to download things into the pc and store them in folders through the CLI. I just want to know an easy way to at least download webmin into it and I think I can figure out the rest. I know how to install webmin from CLI.
