I would like to download a complete Ubuntu Server on a CD/DVD to be installed on a server where there is no Internet connection in a developing country (Africa). Please let me know how I can download a full version of ubuntu Server on a CD/DVD.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI downloaded Ubuntu and was hella pumped to use it.. I downloaded it, burnt it at a 4x speed (slowest I can) I did a clean install and made it the only OS on my Hard Drive. After installing it said I didn't have connection. After a good 3-4 hours, I tried every option, I even got it to say I was connected but I still had no Internet connection. I put in my Windows 7 disc to go back to what I originally had. BUT I couldn't install it to a hard drive that wasnt formatted at NTFS, I guess Ubuntu changed my HDD. So, I put back in my Ubuntu disc and clicked 'Try Ubuntu'.. Found out that the TRIAL gives me Internet but the full version does not. I copied down the configuration that the Auto Eth connection had, and went back to the full version - I already had in the exact same configuration. So im here with a trial on my computer, can't download anything or install anything. I cant go back to Windows 7, and I need the disc in to use my computer.

I'm just wondering if I should install 9.10 full or download the "netbook edition". Whats the difference? Will I see better performance with the netbook or full edition? I have an XP laptop, currently running very low on HDD space and RAM capacity, waiting to be replaced. Very slow indeed. It recently had problems booting up, and now takes about 20 minutes to get fully started. Is it safe/advisable to run the demo version of Ubuntu from the LiveCD? I really can't afford to trash or crash my computer, it's got lots of important data on it etc.

I was happily running F10 and against my better judgement when it offered to upgrade me to F11 I decided to give it a try. The F11 install hung at 893 of 1626 packages installed. Some SE Linux package was in process of install. On the next boot the installer fails to upgrade for a corrupted root. It says I can backtrack and do a full install, but crashes with a bug when I choose backtrack.
So here is my question - Can i edit the command line and tell the installer to full install rather than upgrade? Or am I stuck with downloading a DVD ISO and doing a full install that way. I've done F8, F9 and F10 so full install from DVD doesn't bother me.

I want to install it in English.I live in a French province of Canada was I automatically directed to download a French version of Ubuntu based on my geography? View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to install Debian Stable 8 Jessie. I've tried the main website, of course, first. But there are a lot of options there to download Debian 8: CD, DVD, Live etc. I downloaded debian-live-8.0.0-amd64-lxde-desktop.iso and I booted live in VirtualBox. It boots fine and the operating system looks in order.
Questions/problems:
1. The desktop icon for the installer says "Install Debian sid". But from what I know "sid" is unstable version. I do not want unstable, nor testing. I just want normal Stable. Did I got the wrong version? The website is a bit confusing about which version is which.
2. How do I check the md5 of the iso? I know how to do that with other distros, they usually specify it near the download link and I can execute in terminal the command 'md5sum' followed by the specific linux distro iso and then compare the numbers. But I can find no such thing for Debian. I searched the website but could not find any clear info.
3. After I install, what should I do in order to make Iceweasel work with Flash and multimedia codecs? I also need Skype and the proprietary Nvidia drivers.
And if I enable these non free, do I get automatic updates for them like for the rest of standard Debian software? Or, if not, what should I do?
The idea is that I want a system that is as stable and bug free as possible, but I won't use many apps beyond these ones. I don't need the latest and greatest software as long as these get security updates. Should I be ok with this configuration?
After playing with various Linux distributions over the past 3 weeks (mostly Ubuntu) I decided on Fedora as the keeper. However, when it comes to linux I'm about as green as they come. I installed KDE Fedora today and managed to get Firefox and Flash installed without much trouble. However, I'm trying to download the newest version of Thunderbird but after a lot of looking, how to do it.
