There is an available update that I don't want to install. I've unchecked and then closed Update Manager, but the update notification icon is still sitting in my system tray, and, every time I re-open it, the update is re-checked and prompting me to download it. How do get rid of this particular update, aside from disabling the relevant ppa?
Is there a way to disable all popup notifications in openSUSE while still having it check for updates periodically. What I would like is for the notification icon to appear when an update is available but to not popup the notification message, or worse, show that dialog stating that some software sources were not available when I'm on the corporate network.
Also, is it possible to disable some updates like the recent KDE one? I right click it and there is an option to disable notification of an update but the menu item is disabled.
I disabled update checking and notifications, but now I get a red triangle icon in the taskbar that says the db is out of date. Is there a way to hide that icon and not have it show up again?
A few days ago I had a problem with my screen resolution after a safe-upgrade. I struggled a little but I finally downgraded and pinned the intel driver. But now, each time I turn my computer on I get a notification of "1 update aviable" I've checked and the update is correctly pinned (I used keep and forbid-version), it does not upgrade. As you can see, this is not critical, but I would apreciate a fix.
Details:
Debian sqeeze/sid with KDE4 on Acer Aspire One ZG5. I manage my programs with aptitude.

Whenever I get the update notification I end up with this error screen: Could not download all repository indexes
The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct.
GPG error:[url] ubuntu Release: The following signatures were invalid: NODATA 1 NODATA 2Failed to fetch [url] returned an error code (2) Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
how can i disable software update's notification about kernel. It keeps showing me alot of annoyn things about the new kernel update, but i don't want to install that i already compilied 2.6.36.1 .
I was gaming last night (Mass effect 2) and I wondered if it is possible to let Ubuntu speak notification. Like: "1 new message" or "updates available" like the AI inmost of the sci-fi games. I goggeld around cause I could imagine someone wanted this to but with no luck. Any way to get voice notifications ?
When i plugged anything into a USB port (mp3 player, camera hard drive etc..) I had a notification come up asking what program I wanted to open the device with.
I have a scheduled backup that runs via anacron, and I currently am writing the output to a log file and mailing the output to root via local mail, see I have tried implemented a notification using libnotify, see Two problems:) I don't get a notification when anacron runs the backup script, I get a notification (sent to my primary user) when root runs a "test" notification script (I strip out the rsync command)) I don't think that this notificication will get delivered if another user is logged in when the backup script is run.I have become accustomed to the notifications that I get from evolution calendar, and I know that if the computer is off when the alarm is to be triggered I still get the notification next time I log in.For what its worth, I am running a Jaunty desktop computer for househould use, and there are two users.
I've just realised that I've never been notified of updates. I've been checking manually. My parents came back from a three week holiday with their laptop and even they didn't get an alert, it seems. I know this was an issue on kubuntu. Does anyone know about this?
I am having some major problems with some popups and all of my notifications:
Ubuntu Karmic 9.10 Video Card: ATI Raedon Mobility 7500 (open source drivers) Running GNOME up to date version for 9.10, no compiz for now (on laptop)
The main problem is that, after updates, I have been getting popups and notifications that look like the attached... Which is problematic if you want to use popup/notifications such as those popped up.... These include Pidgin notifications, Sound Notifications, and whenever I attempt to open System Monitor, as can be seen from the snapshots.
I installed the "mail notification" applet from synaptic and I like it best because it monitors multiple email accounts, something I find hard to find. I do have one question though, how do I get it to start up with every gnome session?
I can't get rid of the "Mail Notification Properties" Window at startup. Every time the system comes up, there is the window for the settings. It's just empty as I don't want any more mail notifications than Thunderbird has.
I looked into the Mail Notification Properties and haven't found any settings to get rid of the window. And I disabled "Mail Notification" in System > Preferences.
Still this window keeps coming back over and over again.
It even survived the upgrade from Karmic to Lucid. How can I get rid of it?
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on my iBook and for some reason the Notification Area (2.30.2) just stopped working. Like it shows it's there, yet I'm not seeing any icons or anything show up. Which is the only way I get online from it at the moment. Right now I'm typing this from someone else's laptop.
I use the Gnome Mail Notification Applet and have recently moved from a wired desktop machine to a wireless laptop.
The problem I have is that the Mail Notification shows an error because it tries to check mail immediately, the network hasn't finished connecting at this time though.
Is there a way to add a delay to this? I can't see one.
Or if anyone can suggest an alternative that is just as good (or better) and allows for a delay?
The only problem I have is that I can not remove notification bar from the top and place it in bottom. I am getting the error in the enclosed screenshot. Is there any body know how to solve this problem. I have gone trhough all steps in the above link and only left is to set the notification area
I use to have an applet in my Panel that prompted when I had Updates available for download. I believe it turned red when there were Important security updates available, and then disappeared or turned off when all the updates had been applied. That has completed disappeared from my Panel.
I thought I could add the Item back to my panel manually. I [<Right Clicked>Panel] and added the item Update Manager to it. Now I can click a box to install updates from the Update Manager but the item doesn't change color to RED when Important Security Updates are available and it doesn't turn off when everything is up-to-date. Instead it just shows a static square Box with a orange arrow pointing upwards... all the time. I have to periodically click on it to see if I need to install updates. How to I turn back on the automated Item so that I get the notifications when there are Important Security Updates and it then turns off after I install them.
Is it possible to use AWN and the default notification system of Ubuntu 10.10?Btw, I've got rid of the gnome-panel completely by removing it from the list of "required startup components".
Since when did the Rhythmbox notification icon get removed from the panel and merged in with the volume/sound notification icon in gnome? When I started using 10.10 Rythmbox had its own notification icon on the top gnome panel. now i have rebuilt my computer with 10.10 and the icon is gone but the Rythmbox controls are built into the sound notification icon.I did install the updates while the Ubuntu 10.10 install was running (there is an option to download and install update in the OS install wizard).I just want to know if this came down as some kind of update.
I was used to use the network and battery icon in the notification are (next to the sound and date/time). Now the bluetooth, battery, network, sound and envelope icon are visible, but there is no responds clicking on it.Pressing the mute-button on the keyboard changes the icon in the notification area. Also connecting a wireless network changes the icon. But to change network is becoming impossible by clicking the icon (and I do not know an other way to change it).The only thing I can think of was whitelisting all programs:Code:sudo gsettings set com.canonical.Unity.Panel systray-whitelist "['all']"This was the only change I made.EDIT: Icons of external programs do respond.
Just upgraded to Natty. After I've been logged on for a few minutes, the notification area (hope I have the right term) just freezes up. This means I can't access the drop-down menus for sound, wireless, battery, and tomboy notes. I've done a quick search and haven't found any helpful information.
I just installed ubuntu 11.04 on my HP Mini 110 and everything is working great except for the battery notification. It can tell me the percentage of battery left, just not the time of usage left, which is very important to me.
*edit: the battery notification is stuck at "estimating"
using the gnome3 team ppa, the gnome shell that gets installed on Ubuntu 11.04 still utilizes the default Ubuntu notifications (you know, those kind of annoying unclickable ones). Is it possible to change the notifications to use the tray at the bottom of gnome shell, for continuity's sake, as they do in Fedora 15.
I am running the GNOME 3 desktop environment on Ubuntu 11.04. I accidentally clicked the "Don't show again" option when a notification from NetworkManager came up, but would now like to have it back. How can I restore it?
I have the notification area displayed in my panel. Normally, it shows one speaker icon, one battery icon, and one wireless network icon. But now it occasionally shows 2 speakers and no wireless icon, or two batteries and no wireless icon. Sometimes rebooting fixes it. But it seems to be random. This used to work fine, and I can't figure out what I did to mess with it.
